1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Making Boy Dolls....Boys! [~Small Edit~]

Jul 10, 2008

    1. Always. Even they saw their penises.

      Not at all, I think.

    2. Yes, I think your little boy looks like a girl. I feel the majority of the boy dolls look very girly.

    3. To the OP: Without any clues, I'd say your doll looks male but has some feminine features.

I don't think people mean to offend when mixing up genders. I know I feel horrible when I mistake a boy for a girl, etc. Many sculpts are made to go "either way"---just look at the MNF line where customers can opt to put a boy head on a girl body.

    4. I will try to formulate my thoughts, but I apologize for errors in the language (
i like androghinia of my guy. To be honest, until recently, such thoughts did not arise, but then we got a new wig and ... I realized that the guy looks in a harmonious way girl. Although he does not in itself very courageous.
To be honest, for me it is very ... convenient. His androghinia allows to play with images, change them...
And for both of us is just ... game.

(sorry one more time for bad english T__T)

    5. I think most doll collectors have had this problem at one point or another, mostly I just find it funny, not offensive, especially when it comes from children ^_^. My little cousin came into my room a while back and saw my dolls and she was calling them girls, I explained that they we boys and she was hesitant to believe me. She finally agreed that my SD DiM Persia and Bobobie Elfkin could be boys but she was adamant on insisting that my Luts Ttori was a girl. I couldn't even "show" her how I knew for sure he was a boy because she's four and her mother would've shot me... But she was cute about it anyway, at least she wasn't scared of them :)

    6. Lol. Everyone that happens to see my Ducan pretty much think he's a she dew to his long white hair. So, I always have to correct them, but it really doesn't bother me at all. I love me them girly boys.

    7. My guys always get called girls. My boss even giggled at my most masculine looking boy saying "She's pretty" then when informed of his gender she replied "Somni, do you like guys that wear makeup?"

It used to bother me when it was my own dolls being confused for girls, but not so much now because i learned to understand that they do have girly faces and hair. And I was in that boat as well at one time. The first time i saw a CP Delf Harang, i was floored when i saw she came in a "LUTS box for Boys" XD

    8. My DOT gets called a girl a lot, though less so now that he has a new wig and a 'rough and tumble' face up, while my AR was always considered a boy. My mum was faster to correct people than me though. I think its hilarious because, while my AR is a boy, its a modded girl body.

    9. Having not read this whole thread so carefully, I just wanted to point out that facial most men have a different facial structure than women. The jawline is usually different, and also there is the fact that the beard on a post adolescent man will show through the skin even if the man is clean shaven. Some doll makers have made very masculine sculpts, as mentioned, like Unidoll, Volks or even Elfdoll's Mir, but the heads that are interchangeable for girl heads (ie. Volks Syo or F16) are just not realistic as men. They make very wonderful stylized men, but not realistic.
Personally I like my men to be men, I have a Jace, and a Mir. I also have a Lady Saiyuki big Ted, but he's an Elf. A very manly elf. I had a school C as a boy, but he never looked right to me, so he got the M to F operation (actually body switch) and now he is a she.
So I guess what I am saying is that it is not really fair to expect non doll people to recognize boys as such if the facial structure is not masculine. Not that there are not human beings who can pass for the other sex, it's just not the usual.

    10. Honestly, I can say I actually like girly boys. >_> But that's just me. And all my kids, even my short haired Scar Shiwoo who had his jacket unzipped at the time, was considered a girl. I always find it very amusing to just say, 'Oh, no, he's a boy.' I'm usually very hesitant to take off their pants though, but in some cases, I will. I've also been told by doll collectors that my DOT boys have 'very manly features' compared to their boys. So, it's always funny just to walk in public with my DOT Ducan who has long black hair and a suit to be called a girl. There is the hair, and then, the suit. It's just always amusing to me.

    11. Hah, my boy ALWAYS is mistaken for a girl. I was away and my mom was showing some of her friends that she had over for dinner the house, and they saw Hayden... And said she was very pretty. My mom quickly answered that she was a he and undressed him to show them -__- ;
But I love girly boys too, so I agree with Clearly simple, it's fun to say, "he's a boy"..
In fact I once had our housecleaner say to me "Oh I love your doll," Upon seeing him again (she'd seen him once before), "What was her name again?" I laughed and said "He's actually a boy, and his name's Hayden." I get odd looks from people saying he's a boy, when people don't know about the girly-boy thing..

      I think to myself, what would they say if they saw some other peoples dolls, like the cross-dressing ones? I have not one thing against them either, I love the cross-dressing dollies o-o;
      I'm done my rant.~

    12. One of my boys is a female to male mod and is girly, so he always gets mistaken for a girl. Nicolai, my msd, isn't suppose to be girly, but the color on his face-up(specifically lips) makes him look so, I guess. I don't even bother replying with "It's a boy" I just pants him myself to get it over with. -3-
He dislikes me for it as well.

    13. Agreed!

I made the "mistake" of asking someone at a meet which doll "she" was and was corrected that it was a he doll. Well, what can I say? I don't know many boys/men in my real life with bangs, hair to their arses, ruffled outfits and pretty beaded jewelry and accessories. It would violate social norms. And typically when boys/men do violate such social norms it's because they are in fact bi-sexual or gay.
None of my boy/men dolls appear feminine and none of them dress in such a way as to confuse one into thinking they could possibly be the opposite sex.
But, there are a lot of things I don't understand about this "hobby."

    14. All my boys are mistaken for girls, but that may be becasue it was easier for me to make the girliest characters I have into BJDs xD

I am pretty sure even those that are supposed to be manlier will still look like girls to most people though... I just like pretty face > w<

    15. Well, I guess it would be because most wigs are feminine. I don't know because I don't have my doll yet...

    16. All my boys are fairly feminine and they're often mistaken for girls. It doesn't bother me much at all because I'm aware of how girly they look to most people. Only way I'd find it weird is if Daolan was called a chick while wearing his coat open to show off his lovely man-chest. Thankfully that hasn't happened yet. x:

As for people who get all uppity about their dolls referred to as the wrong sex, don't. You can't expect everyone, even other doll owners to know. Despite the fact that all my boys could easily pass off as girls, I actually get sexes confused from time to time when faced with unfamiliar sculpts.

    17. Just correct them. If it was me, I might ask " boy or girl?" But I might assume girl. Yes, he looks girly but I would immediately accept it if you said he was a boy. If they say "no that's a girl" then the person is an idiot and don't worry about it. :) I don't worry much about gender or gender roles, so it wouldn't even make me skip a beat. The conversation would probably go like this:

Me: SHE IS SO PRETTY! :D

      You: It's a boy D:

Me: HE IS SO PRETTY! XD

    18. A lot of people, even now, seem to associate long hair with girls :/ I'm attracted to more feminine dolls, especially if they have long wigs. I'll be honest, I thought your doll was a girl, but I would be deeply sorry if I made the mistake. It's pretty embarassing to get it wrong, actually. If I can't tell I usually use 'they' instead of 'he/she' xP If someone thought my doll looked like a girl I wouldn't be upset unless they started bashing teh doll after I corrected them.

    19. I sometimes think it's quite cool to have a girly boy. In fact, I love girly boy dolls haha
