Eiko82 - your doll is just gorgeous! Love your photo of her! I was just wondering- does anyone think Marina will do a birthday contest this year? Last year around this time she "postponed" her annual birthday contest to this year- She also recently mentioned in a Japanese doll magazine interviewing her (Dolly Japan), that her dolls are very hard to get, but that she does have a tradition of giving one away to her fans each year on her birthday... But, who knows when she gave that interview. It is already February 16th- I believe her Birthday is in March so it seems like if she were going to have a contest, she would have announced it by now?
Galacticat - Marina tweeted just yesterday that there will be a contest this year!! - I think she will be posting an announcement on her blog today (or very soon)! The prize will be a resin doll.
Thank you, everyone Marina posted the details of her contest here : http://www.enchanteddoll.com/2015-enchanted-doll-birthday-contest/ The theme is to design a tattoo for an Enchanted Doll!
So with the contest coming to an end, anyone here join in the fun? I know Eiko has shots of her tattoo on her Flickr! Love your theme Eiko, and those Saint Basil columns are beautiful! I stayed up all night yesterday finalising my tattoo before the deadline! Here is my entry: Koi Fish Tattoo 1 2 3 - different shots. Can't wait to see all the entries people came up with, that's probably my favourite part now, to sit back and admire :3
Marina just posted a link to all 301 entries on her blog and will post her Top 20 in about an hour. For those interested, here are the 301 entries : http://www.enchanteddoll.com/galleries1/2015-contest/ It's interesting to see how many themes (flowers, insects, trees) reappear in several entries. There are some lovely entries in there.
Lovely photos Eiko82- Your two gorgeous girls are to die for. I love their face ups- so delicate! I too really liked your entry for the birthday competiton- your ideas are always unique!
Did anyone see Marina's Blog yesterday, saying she was retiring from doll making and closing down Enchanted Dolls. Am thinking it was an April Fools joke but she really sounded serious.
It was a bit of a heart stopper until I realised the date!! Lol- she can't possibly retire until I get my RED!! Did you see her new shoes? So gorgeous!!
A few thoughts. So it is getting close to my 2 year anniversary of being on the list for a resin- I usually do a google and flickr search for new Enchanted doll photos and posts- to see if anyone is still getting new resin dolls. I think that since the DOA is mostly English speaking, and a lot of Marina's fans are Russian, there may be new dolls being made that we never see since some of those people might not necessarily be attracted to this forum or feel comfortable posting here. Of course doing a "search" for new "Enchanted Doll" information and photos has become more challenging since the Enchanted Doll EYE company came on the scene... I sure wish they'd picked a different name. Last night at my jewelry making class- I "came out" as a doll collector, and showed my teacher and some of the other students some of Marina's dolls, which they liked- then told them how much the last doll went for on ebay- and their eyes bugged! My instructor looked thoughtful and wondered out loud about maybe providing a class on doll jewelry- I was (as you can imagine) enthusiastically in support of the idea! I do think I managed to convince the ladies that there IS money to be had in making accessories for dolls- I sure hope my instructor follows up on that idea!!! Meanwhile I am learning general lost wax carving and casting for jewelry- I have to say that it is pretty fun and so hard! I am reasonably good at sculpting- but CARVING wax, particuarly a form that can be cast, is an entirely different ballgame. I have an all new appreciation for what Marina does...
Your projects sound very interesting! I am sure there are no new dolls. Marina would have made a blog post, especially since everyone is so antsy about it. Oh well.
Galacticat - That sounds amazing. I do hope your instructor follows through. Would love to see what you all would create.
Oh I don't mean porcelain dolls- I meant resin dolls. I am sure she does not make a blog post every time she does a resin doll- too boring for her! Lol As for doll accessories- it would be awesome if I could get my instructor on board, she teaches at Pratt and the University of Washington - so if she got THOSE kids working on doll art accessories, than we'd have lots to chose from!
