1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Marina Bychkova's Resin Enchanted Dolls Discussion Part 1

Dec 19, 2012

    1. Monika - Your girls look lovely in those photos. So dreamy. What names do you plan to give them?

Galacticat - She hasn't given up on the resin line. According to people on the ED forum who contacted Marina about it, they were told that Marina works on the resin line inbetween other projects.

    2. You are correct- I did finally hear back from them. She is still working on the dolls in between projects, and Chad assured me I am still on the list. Doesn't sound like I'm getting close though ;)

    3. So who is getting these resins dolls? People in other countries that don't come here or the ED forum? I haven't heard of anyone getting an ED in resin direct from Marina since a I got mine in that large batch a year and a half ago. The email was March and I got them in May I think. I would surely think we would hear of at least one or two getting a doll. I never posted on the Internet about ED until I got that email and was then interested to talk about them. Before it was just a wish I thought would never happen. Now I would just like a porcelain.

    4. Yep, know what you mean. I actually have just about quit even checking into the ED forum because nothing is changing. I have resigned myself to the fact that it was not meant to be. I still love the dolls and spend many happy moments going over my ED books.

    5. This was my thought too. She may be working on them, but I doubt she has sold any. Also, I think we would have seen posts on her blog.

Maybe she will do another batch of 20 someday. It doesn't matter. Even if she did 20 per year, (which is generous in my opinion considering how long it's been since she posted progress) she would never get to me on the list, Let alone anyone that signed up since this thread began. There were about 70 people ahead of me when I signed up.

Even people willing to pay big bucks aren't able to get ahold of second hand dolls very often.

It's not worth worrying about in my opinion. Get on the list with the attitude of entering a big lottery, and spend your time worrying about other things and your money on other dolls. That's my advice to fans.

    6. I was just reading through her blog posts- and it appears she was making dolls in August of 2013 for a Christmas release. So maybe the last batch was about eight months ago? I am hopeful that maybe a lot of people on the list or who are getting the dolls are not posting them anywhere, so maybe they are coming faster than we though :D (On the downside, her post seemed rather negative so I am afraid she may be a little burned out!)

I suspect Marina probably had the best of intentions to start, but maybe due to there being much more exciting/interesting things for her to work on, she hadn't found the motivation to go back to the resin girls. Sounds like she is working on a couple of fantastic projects right now...

    7. Yes, she is pretty much always doing something amazing! If I were her I would have trouble finding time/motivation for cookie cutter resins too. I hope one day I can go to one of her shows to see her costumed dolls in person. In the meantime my other porcelain and resin dolls suit me very well. :)

    8. I really don't know! I will have to wait till I paint my blank doll to see what sort of personality she'll have, and I feel "Moss" just doesn't embody her name, I think she'd suit Honey or Amber or something similar a bit better....

    9. Thought I just liked Fairyland dolls... But these are gorgeous!!

    10. I discovered Enchanted Doll (dolls, not eyes) probably the day after her resin list closed. But I was able to order the LE book.

Marina's dolls are stunning and worth every cent that she charges for them. And of course she is an artist and entitled to handle her manufacturing and sales processes in whatever way she sees fit.

I think her communication with her fans/customers could be greatly improved, however. Yes, she just returned from a 50-day summer holiday - how wonderful! By all means, take a break, she deserves it, etc.

Would a (monthly?) update be too much for her, I wonder. "Hey, I know you resin customers have been patiently waiting for over a year (or whatever), here are my plans so far. If this changes I'll update <here.>"

Personally, if she were to say something like "I plan to finish all resin doll orders by 2017, taking three orders a year" or something like that, that would be okay with me. I wouldn't mind waiting. But I think a lot of frustration is that her communication is so sparse, and the details so vague. To say something like "I"m working on resins between other projects" is really not helpful. Yes, we all understand there is no hard and fast schedule for the artistic process. But even "I will report back on resin progress within a month's time" at least lets everyone in Resin Waitinglistland know that ok, in a month they'll have an update. Even if the update was "No resins now; I will reevaluate in January" - well now you have an understanding of what's going on, or, worst case scenario, when your next update is coming.

I can't count the number of times I've pored over her website and thought "oh, let me order this tiny shoe necklace or this keyring" to be told "these items are sold out." A listing of what is available and what is not would be helpful, but yes, that takes time, and it's tedious, and etc. I think a day's worth of work spent communicating and updating would be time well spent, and good insurance against an inbox full of carbon-copy emails wondering "when can I get my resin" "is this item for sale" etc. That can't be fun.

Anyway. No hate intended; just wanted to post my thoughts. I guess I'm in a prime position to start saving up for my first resin!

    11. I think Chad has said before that as Marina doesn't have any concrete plans regarding the resin dolls, they have been somewhat vague about the details because they don't want to promise something that won't happen.

Question: Have any of you tried ordering or received one of Marina's little metal corsets? I seem to remember a price at some point but couldn't find it. Not sure also if she ever did post ordering info for these (does anyone recall) ? They are sooooo beautiful... makes me want to learn

    12. I asked to be put on the waiting list but have not heard back so far. Some people have received them as can be seen on some Flickr photos.....I don't know the price but it is a beautiful corset and I would dearly love one...

    13. I've ordered shoes from her before, always just wrote and got told if my order would be available or not.

    14. Oh thank you! I actually did get put on the list at some point, but it was months after he first post where she asked that people who were interested contact her to be added to a list. Since the post said that more details about the accessories would be coming later, I was afraid I had missed it, and also wondered if maybe she had decided not to make more than a couple of these.

That's great that a few people have them, they really are amazing.

    15. Wow, this is such a well done outfit....The colors and execution are wonderful and the dress matches the wig color perfectly...A pleasure for the eyes...:daisy

    16. kapiszonka, she is gorgeous in this dress, Queen!

    17. Beautiful doll, that dress suits her very well!

    18. I don't see a problem making the resins since she has a factory making them, and someone else making the wigs. Surely there could be more blank dolls around. The popovy sisters has the same exact method (which marina has seen them doing) yet they are cranking them out no problem. The sisters don't work on production, they work on design and make up. Also the face ups marina does is not as complex as her porcelains so I am pretty sure she can crank them out. But she could at least offer more blanks. At the very least be honest and up front, which she seems to be very evasive about. Also I am pretty sure she is selling porcelains on the side despite the wait list. I say whoever can just simply place a large sum of money immediately in her account, are the ones who are eventually going to get items. It doesn't seem she posts any of her secret orders on her blog. Why else would random people get porcelains and no news of it.

    19. Does she have someone else making the wigs? I didn't know that.

I think you are right about the porcelains, they are kept on the down low. Frustrating, but oh well. Those people must be paying a fortune.

Simply put, I think the reason there aren't hundreds of blank resin EDs is because Marina favors a business model where her dolls are exclusive art. Annoying for a fan that wants a doll (me!), but it's obviously working for her. My annoyance is tempered by seeing such an original artist succeed at doing what she wants to do without having to "crank out" faceups. What a drag that would be.

      Still. I want a doll. A LOT! :)
