1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Mass discontinuation - How does it make you feel?

Jan 18, 2019

    1. yeah... my wallet still crying due to dch and now this? and also with bodies... so raymond and 2 heads :( and together with dch limited xaviera :( so many of them in such a short time

    2. since I saved up as much as I can on my grail that was getting discontinued from doll chateau, I have no money for dolls left. this annoys me since dollzone is also now discontinuing a lot of dolls, including a doll that has a very large importance in my story, it's so stressing:pout:

    3. Are all these mass discontinuations normal? Or maybe I should ask if they're the "new" normal? I've only been really in the hobby since the beginning of the year... I was kind of under the impression that there was a bit more stability in this hobby and I would be able to pace myself in regards to making purchases... I'm glad I was able to order my Snow Fulai... but my entire hobby budget for the rest of the year is shot because of her. :huh?:

    4. @OtakuSquirrel It's not unheard of? Doll companies will drop whole lines, discontinue everything in order to start the line refreshed or discontinue everything and close their business. Looking back to the beginning of the hobby, very few sculpts have been on continuous circulation to this present day.

It's safer to think of all dolls as limited in time, quantity and by lack of popularity. If you get set on a doll that's out of production, the 2nd hand market will usually cough one up if you're patient.

    5. I feel like a bunch just happened to coincide at the same time, which sent me into a minor panic when one of my dream dolls was set to be discontinued before the end of this month. I just bought a doll last month, so it made it hard to save up for this dream doll before it goes off the market.

    6. I'm not surprised by DZ's announcement seeing as DC and DZ are sister companies and DZ discontinued half of their older 1/4 sculpts a few years ago and the ones that weren't hit then are being discontinued now.

I'm still a bit bitter about my first interaction with DZ, even though I've ordered other dolls from them since and didn't have the same issues as I did for that first order so I guess they only make very big mistakes when there's a surplus of orders -- like a discontinuation event.

    7. I hate that too, but I know that companies cannot hold all the sculpts they have because of the company situation... Too sad to know that sexta and kevin has discontinued.

    8. I think it's often rather bittersweet. For a lot of companies, it means they're going to be innovating and releasing new dolls/lines, which is exciting. Iplehouse and Souldoll come to mind. It can be hard to tell when it's a sign of a company disappearing, though, so it always makes me nervous.

    9. Seeing mass discontinuations makes me nervous, even if it's from company whose sculpts I never had any plans on owning. For example, I like some of DC's aesthetic but not enough to ever actually buy one so their discontinuations didn't affect me. The discontinuations make me worry about the company going under when that's not the case and it makes me worry about the companies I do want to buy from suddenly discontinuing the sculpts I want before I can afford them. It adds this sense of urgency to getting all of the dolls on my wishlist before there is a chance they can be discontinued which really stresses me out since I have to save for a long time to afford a doll.

Discontinuations are totally up to the companies and artists and I love that they may be happening because they are clearing space for new dolls but they do suck for the people who want those sculpts but can't afford to shell out that kind of money in a time crunch. I like that DC gave people a good chunk of time to place their orders and that places like BJDdivas let others have a really long layaway to be able to afford the dolls but that's not going to be the case for all companies/artists.
