Matching Your Clothes with your Dolls!

Apr 7, 2018

    1. It's not the same scarf from the picture I shared before, but I made Rin and I matching skull scarves!

    2. I got a Morningstar Dolls Fransisca specifically to make a mini me! Right now she only had an outfit to match my fest garb though, I'm working on getting her a faceup first.

    3. I’ve been wanting a doll I can “Mini me” with for awhile now. I own an MSD dress very similar to one I own, but my biggest difficulty has been finding to replicate my hair colors to a wig for one. The last one I tried to commission unfortunately fell through, because the artist couldn’t source the materials during this pandemic. Maybe someday, though!

    4. I can see where that would be a lot of fun for a lot of folks...but my mom used to dress me and my sisters alike all the time, and it got real old. Many family friends did not know my name even. I was just one of a matched set.

    5. I wanna do this!

next time I am able to go to a convention where I can bring one of my dolls, I wanna go in partner look.
The biggest issue would be to either get them super normal stuff or very special stuff for me ...
either way I would have to plan A LOT for the outfits ... oh and the wigs of course ....

I am not a big fan of contact lenses so I might make my dolls eyes that match mine for that day then xD

    6. I will try this definitely.
I plan to dye my hair to the same color to the hair fabric I bought to custom fabric my doll wig.
I don't know when, but sometime in the future.

I'm also looking to find a pattern for some Fish net for my dolls so we can match them when we go to a doll meetup here on my country haaha

    7. I have a striped t-shirt. I just sewing my boy something similar, but it was not really direct. I just found a long sleeved t-shirt with thinner stripes and start to make a t-shirt for my doll. In his size is looking very similar to my t-shirt's pattern. (I often recycle my worn out clothes for doll clothes fabric).

    8. I really want to twin with my big girls someday. I have some similar-looking clothes to theirs but haven't actually gotten around to it and would like get some of the BTSSB collab sets in my own size in order to do this as well.
My YoSD Megu (Yumeko) and I did sort of twin in similar lemon-themed dresses once though.

*EDIT: I was able to get the Moitie dress set that came with Mana as well as the human equivalent. Haven't twinned with my girl yet but the outfits are ready!

    9. This seems like an excellent idea. It would probably be a costume/cosplay outfit though. And maybe not an exact match more like thematically related.

It would be easier to sew for a doll than a human.

    10. I don't have matching outfits but my dress up taste has definitely been changed greatly by the way I dress up the dolls (not BJD yet, but I have other art dolls). At first I followed only doll fashion on the social media it later changed to "doll type of fashion" but for real human. :) Gradually I myself become more interested in vintage dressing up style which I never thought of I would put on myself.

    11. That is definitely on my to do list.

I have been wearing lolita fashion for well over a decade now but this year I wasn't really active/motivated as there were no meet-ups due to the pandemic. But the thought of twinning with my dolls is actually motivating me to sew matching lolita dresses. If only we weren't in the middle of a lockdown... But I might have some leftover fabric that's big enough for two dresses. Otherwise I'll just sew a lolita outfit in MSD size that fits the style of one of my lolita dresses.

    12. I would love to do this! I wear all black tho so they’d be fed up with the lack of color :sweat

    13. I've recently gotten back into EGL fashion and am working on some complimentary outfits with me and my doll. I'm really hoping to dress him up in ouji style, and me in a same lolita fashion style dress. :whee:

    14. The first dolls I got, I ended up dressing in the clothing that came from the doll company and was very pleased with their aesthetic, though it's not the way I would dress... lots of pastel tones. For some reason in spite of it not really being *my* style, I was able to envision their face-ups pretty easily to match their dresses.

The other one will become a character from a movie, so I suppose I could dress like her if I cosplayed as the character... but I think that's unlikely TBH.

What surprised me was that my most recent doll (my FAV everrrr) arrived, and I had no idea what her look should be. I pulled some random doll clothes I had laying around out and dressed her in them (crop crochet top & white booty shorts), and realized suddenly she is dressed like I would be in the summer around here in CA. It's making me feel a lot closer to her ... emotionally? I dunno, it feels like sharing a dressing style with my doll gives me more ideas on how she could be dressed. I'm thinking of trying to design her some outfits that are more like what I have worn generally, either now or in the past.

So I feel like my direction right now when matching is "does the doll dress like me?" more than do I dress like my doll :kitty2

    16. Ohhh yes !!!!! I keep trying to find for me a dress which I already have for her . I love this ❤️❤️❤️❤️ So funny and cute

    17. Some time ago I dressed up my Zaoll Luv and realized that I had very similar clothes (a black skirt and a stripped long-sleeve t-shirt), so now I'm planning of taking pictures of us in these :)
I love seeing people and their dolls in matching outfits!

    18. Does it count that my basic everyday outfit for myself is jeans and a heather gray tee shirt (I actually own 4 or 5 of the same color tees), which is what two of my boy SDs wear? In fact, I used the fabric from an old tee of mine to make doll size tee shirts, and when I cut off a pair of my jeans to make shorts for summer, I used the fabric to make several pairs of jeans for my dolls.
My boy Genesis (my avatar photo) also wears a jeans jacket, identical to one I own. But those jackets are not unique. It's a common type of jacket, and my favorite style for myself, So when I found one for Gen, I knew he had to have it, but not consciously trying to be my twin.

I try hard to dress my dolls in things I would NOT wear. I like Harajuku style, and it's all over Alice Collections right now. If I were young and slim I could see myself dressing that way....but I'm neither young nor slim.

I own a pair of leopard print Keds sneakers and would love to find the same for one of my girls.

    19. Years ago, I made my sister's first doll a dress that matched a dress she had, I think for the first meet-up we ever went to, before I had my first boy.

I haven't twinned with any of mine, but I think Pete and I could... we both have galaxy leggings, it's just putting together the rest of the outfits.

    20. Not intentionally, no. But when I was visiting Volks USA for an event ages ago, my favorite boy and I were both wearing aloha shirts and khaki pants, and someone commented we looked alike.
