1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Meeting people in the hobby

Sep 28, 2013

    1. Actually it was one of my best friends who got me into the hobby in the first place :) But I've never met anyone in the same town or city I live in who is into the hobby... but I've never been to a meet so thats probably why. I have to say when I see a member from the Uk I get very excited!

    2. I used to live in a small-ish town in France so I only ever met a couple of people from other towns at conventions, but we never quite got to a friend stage.
I find it generally hard to meet people and there aren't that many who even know what bjds are, so that makes it another hurdle...
I'm pretty shy and anxious generally when meeting new people and since I moved away, I've been lurking for 2 years in London, UK with zero friends who share this interest.
I heard there's a society with active monthly meetings in London, so I'm gathering courage to try and join a meet-up or somethin...

    3. Even until now, I almost never meet anybody who is in the hobby. But then, I never go to any anime based convention and just joined this hobby for around 2 months.

I would be very happy to see people bring their doll in broad daylight everyday, so I can know that person is in the hobby too. But finding such person is more harder

    4. I would love to have more local friends that enjoy this hobby. It would be dangerous though, as I am most certain I would want more dolls. I just don't have a lot of time to meet with people.

    5. I always run into people at Expo, I take my doll with me but not many other owners do, so they always stop me and say they are an owner too. It's mostly just in passing like a hi and bye. Still nice though.

    6. This is my only discontent with having a bunch of doll friends - you get to see so many different dolls from different companies, but it just makes you want them all!

    7. I love doll meet. Its awesome to meet people and share the hobby. There are some girls in my city with the same hobby. Sometimes we arrange doll meet. And I have two friends in the hobby.

    8. I'm an active social kind of person - I go to doll meets & SF conventions - & kind of wave red flags about to find people near me who like what I do. None of my close friends here are into BJDs so much (one friend does puppets & another likes vintage Shirley Temple dolls) - but I've gotten to know people NEAR here from the doll meets :D And yes I spend money because of it LOL LOL

    9. When I first joined (which was actually quite recently) I was worried that I would be alone as I live in quite a small(ish) place in England which is defiantly not at all famous for being a haven of interesting people (everyone is just a football fan...) but I simply typed in the name of the nearest city and "BJD" and I found the city's local doll meets! They welcomed me very warmly and now I attend frequently! I have met some wonderful people there, I never new I could be that easy!

    10. I'm also from the UK- London and I was wondering if you know about the Pygmalion society for meetups. I've joined the group but I'm nervous about going to a first meetup.

    11. I have seen and read threads relating to the Pygmalion society for meet ups and there are some amazing photos, but I am not really involved since I don't live that near London (although I wish I did - Ipswich sucks). As for going to your first meet, it's completely understandable that you would be nervous, I know I was going to my first meet. I hadn't even got a doll or a DoA account and I was worried they would not approve of me. But once I got there I realised what a great choice I had made, it's wonderful meeting and talking to people involved! Plus, taking photos of lots of dolls in one place is really fun, so remember to take a camera! (That was the greatest mistake I made at my first, forgetting just that)

    12. Thanks for responding. I will probably take a friend with me for the first meetup at least and I will definitely remember to bring a camera. :)
