Miriam first, I am so fine--new from Roxy Doll

Mar 29, 2007

    1. The only way I can stomach the image is to give her the story of being an actress in a horror movie. Yeech. I worked on Law & Order for four years, this girl is giving me horrible flashbacks!

    2. I can't help but come back to her time and time again, she just looks so PRETTY. She'd make a great zombie character, or a character that regenerates. I'd love to see what kind of outfit she comes with; do you know if they're making an outfit for her, or if she's just going to be sold like that?

    3. You're right, she WOULD make a cool zombie! I think the wounds look cool, but you'd have to have a way of trying them in with the character of the doll. Maybe she fights some kind of supernatural terror, like Buffy or Sam and Dean or something and she gets injuries from combat and stuff. ^__^ I Have a creative imagination, lol

    4. Yeah! I mean, the cuts and everything look well done and all, she's a beautiful doll. (Personaly I'd want some bruising/splatter marks instead of just cuts, but that's me)

Maybe she IS the supernatural terror? Or she just got back from a horrific battle, with mussed clothes and armour all torn away....8D

    5. I kinda like her. She certiantly doesn't creep me out...her expression doesn't exactly say "I've just been murdered". Besides, the cuts look entiarly fake to me! hehe

    6. Very interesting design for a doll. I think she looks quite lovely (without the scars).

    7. She really doesn't look 'realistic', the cuts are all wrong if that's what they're going for. She looks more like a zombie doll then anything, with those cuts., not ver realistic. Though, she is pretty cute, she seems CONFIDENT with them, maybe she's dressed for a costume ball? It would explain her title.

    8. I love her and would totally buy her if she weren't $440. Then I would have to think about the shipping.... hmmm...
Maybe I can come up with it in the next month and 8 days.
She really, really appeals to me.

    9. Miriam type 2 is the same mold without the "violence" paint scheme, so those who like her without the cuts have an option, which is good. :)

    10. Oh My! I like her! I agree she would be an amazing ghost or supernatural character. I feel like she has a kind of a defiant power to her. Like a triumph over the physical. I know that sounds weird, but it's just the vibe I get from her. She's severely tempting, but I can't spare the cash right now.

    11. I think I'm going to get her. I really do like that doll.

    12. This one went over the line for me. I love Notdoll, but posted my dislike of this doll to their Q&A. The pictures on their site imply violence against a woman. So it's "just a doll," not an acceptable image to me....Carol

    13. I don't get it. What's to like about a doll that depicts violent acts against women? Or self-mutilation, for that matter. It's just distasteful. I'm tired of seeing these kind of things done to women or images of women, which would include dolls with a very life-like resemblence.

    14. Some people like dolls like Miriam. Because we don't know the story behind the doll, we can't simply judge her and say she promotes violence against women. People have different opinions when they see a doll for the first time.

When I first saw her, my thoughts behind all the cuts were that she self-inflicted them to prove her point about what our society believes as "Beautiful". Rail thin, perfect skin and such... Super models and women such as Paris Hilton, the skinny Nicole Richie, the Olsen Twins, the skinny Star Jones and alike. Maybe the doll artist wanted to make a statement about how women are treated as objects to be desired and not for what great women they can be? Even with the covers of magazines being air brushed and digitally enhanced, the perception of what our society believes to be beautiful is not attainable... which is why we have problems with anorexia, bulimia and self mutilation, i.e... cutting.

There are some doll collectors who customize gore dolls here.
      That's what they like.

Just as some people like elfs, fairies and mermaids. I'm a big old school zombie movie fan, and I love horror movies, though I would never own a doll that resembles characters from horror flicks, it's definitely a conversation piece to have one like Miriam sitting on the coffee table when you have guests over.

    15. I'm sorry, I have to contest you on that one. Anorexia, bulimia etc has been around longer than fashion magazines. It may be more publicly exposed now, but it's been around since at least the Romans and is not a new phenomena.

I still think that it's tiring to be constantly bombarded with pictures of women as victims. Try to imagine what life would be like if most women in media were pictured as strong and independent. I think it would make a world of difference in many young insecure girls' lives. :)

I know there will always be opposing opinions on dolls like these. Some people like gore, others don't. I just don't like seeing a doll company make a collection of dolls with wounds, albeit a limited edition. It sends out a strange message.

    16. :sweat I may have not been as clear about what I meant about the Bulimia and such. While it probably has been around before fashion and all, it stems as a form of taking control of one's self.

Young children do this too in a way, my friend's son can vomit on command and uses it as a weapon when he can't argue to get what he wants.

My question is... would everyone ( men included ) have the same reaction to a male Miriam doll?
Are we pre-programmed to see women as weak and victims while men are seen as warriors and strong?

    17. I would like to take a moment and aploud the mods for this.
I understand that like Manda_Chan posted that they are supposed to be more of a "joke" about our current culture.
But the fact is that if this doll is shown here in her naked form it would distress alot of people, I cant even imagen what would happen if someone who has been a victim of such a crime would see it.
Any violence, or depiction there of is unacceptable. Because even though some also stated she looked like a Zombie. She is still a pretty badly mutilated zombie.
Thank you mod squad. You keep our eyes and sanity safe. :aheartbea

    18. Actually, that was exactly my point too! :) I think that as long as women are pictured as weak and vulnerable they will be weak and vulnerable. If women have positive rolemodels to look up to, they (we) will grow and become strong.

On the other hand, I don't much like male dolls with wounds either. I'm not much into gore... :blush

What I think is so different with this Miriam 1st is that her wounds are everywhere on her body. There is an Elfdoll K with scars, but I think they're only in his face. Also, they look more like something he could have gotten in a fight (with an equal?). Miriam's wounds look either self-inflicted or as if someone has attacked her.

    19. I really like the way she looks with the scars. But well, I was really close to making a zombie-doll myself, and she was supposed to have big oozing wounds on her body. But I'm just an old fan of horror, splatter and all that.

Why doesnt the "witch" version of her have a wig at all? Not even in the pictures... :o She looks a bit like a cancer patient with only that scarf over her head.
