Mirodoll Robert Downey Jr Minimee Discussion Thread

    1. Moving the knot inside (and taking out about a foot of elastic out of the legs while you are at it) and hot sueding the pelvis and knees should improve him a lot.

Can't wait for mine to arrive!!!

    2. That was what I was thinking.Right now he has a Dollshe belly pop thing going on and his knees crumple constantly even with the wire. So a proper sueding he will get. His arms are great.

    3. Hope the reactors arrive soon as it will give us something to do while waiting.

I moved the knot inside and got rid of a fair bit of elastic but he is still to loose! I need to take a bit more and try the hot glue as well. It was near impossible to put his head on with that knot!

Wiring is another thing I have never done before. I think this boy is going to make me learn some new tricks. I'm actually glad as it has made me try things I have never done before :)

    4. Kavarr - go forth and be fearless! Corny? yah, but it's fun to be fearless at least in small ways.

    5. Geheheheeh!!! It's Here!! The arc reactor surprise arrived today! And it's Ginormous!!

    6. Doodle_Penguin it looks really wonderful. I can't wait to see it in his chest. Good work ikke777!

I am sitting on my little couch with a very naked 64.5cm RDJ lounging closeby. I just finished suedeing his joints and suddenly decided he needed a little body blushing, you know, just his nipples. I can't stand uncolored nipples especially when his famous photoshoot will be of him with just a pillow. Well one thing led to the other and now I can't stop giggling and wondering if he needs a sprinkling of chest hair. But his is restrung and I don't want to take him apart again.

    7. The arc reactor looks great Doodle_Penguin. When I saw the size drill bits needed I knew it was going to be a pretty big hole to drill.
I agree with SteamWitch, Ikke has done a great job designing them. The more I look at my guys I think they need nipple blush as it does make them look so much more realistic.

    8. Yeah. It's got a good weight to it to! And now that I can look at it more closely I think I'm gonna swap over to a hole cutter versus a regular large drill bit

    9. Oh wow I have never even seen one of those! You will have to show us pictures as to how it goes. I am still waiting on the replacement parts from Miro but will definitely be practicing on the cracked torso first.

    10. I love these type hole cutters. I'd start out with a tiny drill bit and drill a hole in the center of the hole you want to make. Then that center bit in the hole cutter will follow that small hole and you won't get a bumps and scratches on the rest of the chest.

    11. Make sure to try it on wood first and when you're ready to drill the resin, go very very slowly because the friction of the drill on the resin may melt the resin if you go too fat.
Also remember that resin is slippery so you MUST drill a pilot hole to give the drill bit center a place to grab on.

Don't use a drill that doesn't let you go slow. Then go as slow as you can. The other 'danger'is that the drill grabs on to the resin tightly and then the whole chest will start spinning out of control.

SO FOR GOD'S SAKE, GO SLOW!!!!!

If you want to have another type of test, try drilling the big hole in the side of a big candle first. You will find out very quickly what to do and what not to do. And a big candle is cheaper than Tony's chest and if it starts to go out of control it's not to so hard and it doesn't make dangerous shards.

      Also:
Wear long sleeves and safety goggles and tie up your hair so no part of it can fall in front of your face (and get caught on the spinning drill) (No idol warning here, I've seen it happen; the hair looses and the drill wins, hands down) .
Strap all items to be drilled down firmly; much more firmly that you think it needs. Think typhoon type force here.
      AND GO SLOW!

    12. Yes!!!!!:thumbup Good advice. One speed drills suck.

    13. Hahahaha! You guys are great! But don't worry! This isnt my first rodeo with this kind of saw. I don't do A lot of doll mods but I'm a bit of a builder. I make a lot of my own furniture. And I'm going to try my hand at my dolls furniture.

Dont worrk Kavarr I haven't forgotten! I'll make a whole video and post step by step on my webpage. The good thing about these kind of saws are they're pretty cheap. Black and Decker has a 4 or 5 saw set for about $10. That's the bit shank and about 5 different size hole saws. I'll probably have to get a new set.... I moved and Now I Can't Find The Bit!! I can find all the holes but not the Bit attachment!! Agh!!

    14. Thanks for the advice guys. I have never done anything like this before. I was thinking to use a friends vice to hold the chest piece. I thought to put something soft between it and the vice (like a towel). I don't want the thing moving about. Going to have a really good look around the hardware and see what is on offer.
My shapeways order arrived today and it's so cool! I got the two colors and the silver color one is going in his chest and the other will become a prop. I took a few pics to see how it will fit and it's all so exciting.

Now to work out how to wire it all up and fit the pieces together. This is so much fun and Ikke you are a legend for organizing all this!

    15. Be careful when using a vice; you can actually very easily crush the chest when you tighten the the vice. A vice is meant for wood and metal, both of which have a certain amount of give in the their strength, resin is much more brittle than either and it may shatter.

I'm planning to make a wooden 'cage' to keep the chest from spinning if it gets gripped. You don't really need to hold it down in the front-to-back axis, because you'll be pressing it down with the drill on it. What you do need is a way to stop it sliding away from under the drill as you drill the pilot hole (which may have to be done in stages, from smaller to bigger). And a away to stop the the chest from spinning out of control if the big drill part catches and holds on.

    16. It makes sense Ikke I was thinking maybe it would be ok if the vice is not to tight just enough to stop it from spinning. The wooden box is a good idea. I think I will wait and see how some of you go (also the replacement torso hasn't turned up yet) but I can practice on the chipped one. For me it works out good to have the spare to try first. Still haven't got my drill bit either as I really need to wait till my next pay.

    17. Since this is a discussion thread I can't post more than one photo per post right? :...( Do we need a photo thread too?

    18. Oooh I didn't think of that SteamWitch. It could be a good idea as I imagine there will be plenty of pics coming up. Sherlock is looking cool although I think he may be signaling for a glass of scotch :)

    19. I need to find him a glass for scotch or whatever. He also needs a pipe, may have to see if hubby is game to carve one.
So yah, I think we need a photo thread when more of our guys are ready for photo spam-a-thons.
