Missing your dolls.

Jul 9, 2013

    1. I had kind of a unique situation so I have good cause to miss my doll while on vacation. My first doll (Dollmore Dollpire) that I ordered arrived the day I was leaving for the airport to go to Las Vegas. I had just enough time to open her and get her dressed and then it was time to go. I had been waiting MONTHS for her, and was VERY glad that I was able to get her in the house before we left. I thought about her a couple of times while I was in Vegas, but still had a fantastic time... I knew I would have all the time in the world to enjoy her when I got back.

You have to admit that was cruel and unusual punishment getting the doll that you have been waiting for... having it be the first.... seeing her for 10 minutes and then having to leave the state for a week. UGH! :)

    2. Yeah I have! Once I went away for two weeks and I took a photo of them in my wallet, well they are my kids. ;) Now I don't, I have more than enough for them to all keep each other company. I doubt they know I'm gone.

    3. Hmmm, not really. But then, I haven't been away long enough to actually miss them, as I've had plenty of weeks that I don't do anything with them and they just sit there looking pretty.

It's not that I don't love my dolls, but most trips I've done were only temporary and I'd be home in a week. A few years ago, I lived on the other side of the country and couldn't bring my dolls with me, so they had to stay at my parents' house... That really sucked, 'cause I could only 'play' with them every other weekend.

    4. yes I would miss mine if I ever went anywhere. I used to like the idea of taking them everywhere with me but now my group is growing that's going to be impossible.

    5. I'm so glad I'm not alone!
Now that I'm home, I'm just reveling in them and the projects I have planned...
Ooo heaven, dolly be thy name.

    6. I always take a couple when I go somewhere but I am always missing the ones left behind!

    7. I miss my dollies right now! My husband and I are preparing to re station in the next few weeks so most of my dolls are already packed up in their box's. I wish they were displayed so I could walk by them every day... It's sad not having them out.

    8. I'm actually on vacation and was just thinking about my dolly at home. We only have a couple more days of our trip left but I can't help but feel bad while he sits in my room alone. So, yes, I do miss my doll when I'm away from home.

    9. When I was in college, I would leave my apartment and stay for a week or two at my parent's house during Christmas break and I did miss my dolls. I really wished I had brought at least one with, so now if I go to my parent's house for the holidays I will make sure to bring one of them with me. I have way too many SDs to bring them all, but I would if I could ;)

    10. I usually take one of the crew with me when I travel... Which one depends on how lightly I'm trying to pack. For an ordinary out-of-town trip, it's usually either Harumatsu (CP/Delf Shiwoo) or Muninn (Senior Delf Bliss), who are both 1/3-scale dolls. If I'm specifically "going light", though, I'll bring along my smallest doll (Issun, a 1/12-scale Banji).

Just having one of my little resin minions along seems to be enough to keep me from really missing the rest of the horde.

    11. I recently moved, and during the process I spent about two months living with my girlfriend's family, while my dolls were at the house I eventually moved into with my aunt... and I missed them horribly! It was really awful to be without them. I actually got into Monster High dolls because I needed to have something doll-like to play with while I had none of my dolls.. lol.

    12. I missed them in the beginning. Then for three or four years I became too busy to even think about them (or any hobbies). I'm not that busy anymore, but I still don't think of my dolls until I see them or find myself typing "de" into my browser's search (it usually autocompletes into denofangels because of the old bookmark, even if I'm really searching for, say, "desserts under 200cal."). It used to be I couldn't bear to part with them for a day. Now I need to be reminded that they exist.

Tl;dr: I used to miss them all the time, but not anymore.

    13. Nope, not at all. Since she sleeps at the foot of my bed in a coffin I do occasionally apologize for not taking her out but our activities really depend on how busy I am.

    14. Okay...the very first time I went on a longer vacation after I got into dolls, I missed them. Since then, however - not really. Maybe if I'm having a less-than-stellar day on my vacation I wish I could hold them, but otherwise I don't usually have time to think about it. I'm usually too busy shuttling from place to place, since I rarely stay in one city for more than a few days. If I had one of those vacations where I was gone for a long time and was in one place, then I probably would be bored and would miss them. Aside from vacation, I'm rarely away long enough to feel homesick, much less miss my dolls.

If I ever enact my plan to study Japanese for a few months in Japan (which is honestly a pipe dream, but whatever), then I'll probably bring a couple of them with me. Because I know something that long term would be hard on me without at least one or two of them around.

    15. yes, I miss my doll whenever I can't have her with me (which is most of the time)
I even miss her right now and she's just across the room....

I don't travel but if I was to travel somewhere I'd definitely take her
I do take her to a lot of random places and wish she could go everywhere with me but that's just not possible

    16. I frequently take Tyler with me when I travel, because I know I would miss him if I left him at home. I missed him like crazy when I was in hospital after my accident in January and then had to live with my parents for 6 weeks while I was recovering. :( I missed all my dolls that time, except for Dylan, whom my mother thoughtfully picked up and brought to her house. I've missed my dolls when I've sent various ones off to faceup artists as well. I think it's natural for us to miss the things that are important to us.

    17. Absolutely! I just returned from a trip, and after a few weeks I had really started to miss my guys. I just enjoy their presence, and I miss it when they aren't there. :)

    18. Heh! Happens every Christmas when I fly across the country to stay with the old folks in Jersey for a week or two. I never travel with dolls unless I'm travelling for some doll-related reason.

But the internet provides pictures of them for me to moon at while I'm on the road, and my camera usually has a buttload of un-sorted old doll photos on them that I can also moon at. :abambi:

Also, "doll-related" is kind of a loose requirement; I have taken dolls on vacation with me just because I wanted to do a beach-photoshoot where I was going. ^^

    19. i miss my dolls! i bring one or two with me. and the rest of them stay at home. without seeing them, i greatly missing them

    20. I used to bring my dolls everywhere, no matter where it was, but since i've been traveling farther and farther from home, it's been really sad that my dolls haven't been able to share the memories i've been making.
However, i end up missing dolls even more if i can only bring a few, and leave one that would REALLY enjoy the trip. I end up feeling really guilty. umu
