1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Mistakes Made In The Hobby

Oct 16, 2014

    1. Off topic I know, but Rosalynmouse! Lol, here I thought I was the only one with a collection of my cat's whiskers! Walking by, notice one, "Wooo! Cho (my cat) whisker! It's going to be a lucky day!"

Annnd my my biggest mistake would definitely be when I got so flip flopping fraggle Rock MAD that every time I had my Eid Pamela posed juuuuust perfect! juuuuuust right, her arms would slouch down at like precisely the moment I was taking the pictures. Not before, not after. No. Right as. Argghhh it's makes me mad thinking about it...

anyways, I had a short short short fuse that day, I needed chocolate or A yummy cookie or something, because I snapped as not only her fragggggin' arms plopped down after much tinkering, but her legs gave out too!!!!! The cosmic forces of everything, everywhere, in every plane of existence HATED me!!! So, I did what any rational insane person would do and I chucked my lovely Iplehouse Carved Heritage Pamela into some shrubbery, cussed, and went to go take a nap.

It it was very much like this, but substitute the checkerboard with EID Pamela.

    2. 1. Buying MSC Semi-gloss instead of flat. Never knew or noticed that there was a difference in labels until I did the faceup.
      2. Resting a finger on the jointed hand I was wiring in an odd position, resulting in a dent/groove on the joint. :/
      3. Buying more new dolls when I can be doing more with the ones I already have, like dressing them up better.
      4. Not having something to hold onto a S hook while I changed normal hands to jointed ones, resulting in the S hook shooting into his forearm. Had to unstring and used pliers to get it out. (All on the first day this doll body arrived too)

    3. 1.) Impulse buying...
2.) Bought MSD clothes when my doll is MNF size
3.) Didn't do enough research for an order and immediately regretting my purchase 2 months into my layaway(see #1)
4.) Overestimating the amount of supplies I need for a faceup

We all learn through our mistakes, right? :sweat

    4. 1. I bought wigs, eyes and clothes 'just cause', because they look sorta nice and something might fit.
I suppose this is caused by the fear of not having enough when new dolls arrived, I didn't want them naked or bald or without eyes...
By now I really regret these purchases because what good will a blue, ugly wig do me if I'm looking for a completely different style anyways? I'd rather have my doll be bald and order a fitting wig later than have them look ridiculous.

      2. Buying similar heads to what I actually wanted because the one I wanted was LE or sold out, or otherwise hard to get. I do like these heads but I something think I might have been happier if I had only bought the dolls I REALLY wanted (aka being patient and waiting for them to be available) instead of trying to compensate this way.

      3. Ignoring the fact that I have to pay customs fees for getting dolls to my country. I knew of course, but it still hurt when I had to pay 200 Euros in fees for my most expensive doll...

      4. And something I am still guilty of even now: being way too impatient! While I do put more serious thought into what wigs and clothes I get, I'd totally want to order from 5 different shops all at once instead of taking it slow, because you never know, something might get sold out!

    5. Definatly sunday morning shopping ^^ i often lay in bed and buy shoes and wigs ^^ i got so many shoes for my pullips that even if all mutates to spiders and have 8 legs i'd have enough shoes ^^ i didnt already recieved my bjds but i already have 4 pair of shoes and a wig here ^^ luckily today im just surfing this forum and didnt have marketplace rights so im safe until next week ^^

    6. I'm still a baby in this hobby but I do regret getting factory face ups instead of blank heads and having them custom done. Quite a bit of money to just throw away on a face ups I wiped right away.

    7. 1. Ordering hand blushing and being too lazy to remove hands when putting on tight sleeves.
      2. Leaving a dark wig on for an extended period of time.
      3. Making tight/form-fitting clothes before a doll arrives.
      4. Buying clothes at a convention hoping that it would fit.
      5. Tight fabric for pants= NO.
      6. Buying stuff in advance thinking that I'd need them.
      7. Relying too much on item picture rather than item description. Blue eyes = purple -.-
      8. Thinking that a doll would stay put for 5 seconds...only to faceplant into dirt.
      9. Not ordering any clothes with my first doll thinking that my sewing skills were sufficient.
      10. Untreated dark clothing.

Wow...so many lessons learned the hard way.

    8. First was constantly confused about the sizes of clothes and shoes. And also bought the styles of wigs, which I liked, but the doll didn't fit the image. Had to sell unnecessary wigs and buy new.

    9. Things I've learned from the mistakes I've made:

      1) always lay a towel down when working on a doll on a hard surface. First time I restrung a doll, I did it right on my desk, and she kept banging around something terrible. I'm lucky she didn't get chipped or scratched.

      2) never buy on impulse. Sleep on it. . .for at least a month. . .or more. I made the typical noob mistake and bought my first doll on impulse. I wasn't in love with her. I just wanted a doll, any doll. Ended up hating her.

      3) don't trust that when clothing or shoes says "MSD size" (or any other size) that it will fit your doll. If they don't specify the actual measurement, ask before buying. I have a whole collection of shoes that don't fit any of my dolls, and MSD size shoes is the worse. They are always too big.

    10. Heck! As a newbie I am SO glad I sat down to read this thread .... such a lot of no-nos to learn and remember!! I've only got 3 MSDs and have already made some of these mistakes, but mostly that is how you learn isn't it?

    11. I bought my first doll on an impulse, and when I first was doing face-ups I never let the MSC dry completely because I was impatient. *_*
