Most expensive faceup?

Aug 25, 2023

    1. Never did I think I'd end up paying $170 for a custom commissioned faceup but I did and I do NOT regret how beautiful it is. What is the most expensive faceup you ever paid for?

    2. Beautiful face up, the most I have paid for a face-up is around 60 bucks. I haven't had a custom face up yet, just company or my own. But I wouldn't mind paying for a good face-up either :abambi:

    3. Trust me once you find the right artist, you'll throw your money towards them. I did ask for a lot so I wasn't too surprised at what I owed but never did I think I would pay that much.:nosebleed

    4. I feel nervous about sending a head incase it gets lost in the mail *_*

    5. The most I paid for a custom face up was $75... The most I paid for a company face up is $85 :sweat
The custom face up is absolute divine perfection :drool I'm still waiting on that company face up, but I've never seen them put out a bad one.

    6. After so many years in the hobby I have yet to lose a head and Ive sent heads from both the USA and Asia :XD: nothing to fear!

Which company did you commission?? I haven't bought from a company in years so the last ones I commissioned from was Doll Chateau and they were pretty simple and nice.

Thank you! The artist even tried to add more yellow tones to match the yellow hybrid body. My favorite are the tears ah! Such a sad little bb:whee:

    7. I just sent off a head to Alatexin, which will be $120. However, I'm also on the list for Rakeru Sensei, just waiting for my turn to ship my head, and that will be 125 Euro/~$135, so it'll be my most expensive. The artist who does most of my dolls is $70 for MSD and $90 for SD, and @Lady Maeve currently has one of my heads for a rework that would have been $110 from scratch (and do I remember how much it is as a rework? Not in the slightest).

    8. Angell-Studio! I've also gotten great company face-ups from Chicabi and Myou :3nodding: Oh yeah, and my Luts doll way back in the days had a gorgeous make up too.
Yes, those pretty little tears that caught my eye too! Looking forward to seeing them all put together :D

    9. I only commission Alatexin. That faceup is their work:love Ah the price of beauty!!

    10. I haven't paid for a face-up artist but I have paid for company face-ups, I think the most expensive being $66.67 (Luts).

    11. I don't commission (I paint myself), but I know that the works of some popular Chinese and Japanese artists cost several hundred dollars per face-up
And people happily pay for it, even with limited say in how the face-up will turn out at the end (most of it is "artist's choice"). Unfortunately the western community is not that far, and never will be due to a different attitude towards artists, so us Western face-up artists gotta keep on dreaming :XD:
But that's the reason why I personally stopped taking regular commissions. The price people are willing to pay for 20-30 hours of your life time to have a hand painted artwork on their doll's face is just too low.

    12. I used to regularly send my dolls to an artist in Korea who installed upper and lower lashes one by one. *_* That was about a decade ago and was $150 plus shipping. I also sent dolls to a couple of artists in Australia, and must have paid about the same?

I realized these really expensive face-ups were kinda ruining my experience with the dolls though -- in the sense that they were gorgeous, but made me insanely paranoid to do anything fun (like even just change clothes) with the dolls. I found someone closer to me who maybe doesn't install each individual eyelash, but the cost + quality makes me happier with my doll. It's still lovely, but on the other I'm not worried about messing up the $150 + $100 shipping face-up.

    13. I do my own faceups, so the most expensive was certainly the first!
Buying pastels, brushes, and a nicely fitted respirator mask with replaceable cartridges, and MSC which back then I could best get at the Junky Spot- luckily I was already a traditional-medium artist so I had Derwent watercolor pencils and acrylic paints and glosses already.

Once you have paid for those basics, the costs become fresh cartridges, MSC and time, definitely. A lot of practice.

    14. My most expensive one was indeed from one of the artists @Ara alluded to - ended up paying a good 300$ for the faceup, shipping and custom fees not included

No regrets, it was for the doll that has been with me since thirteen years and while the faceup might have been only photographed twice, been more expensive than the doll himself and he's standing in a cabinet for the past five plus years... Still, he deserves it XD

Usually I do pay a varying amount for my faceups depending on whom I commies, it's usually nothing more than 120? max so the one above is an outlier

    15. I've only commissioned one once, and I spent 60$ on it (almost 5 years ago now, though) but I would definitely pay more if I loved the artist. I remember thinking at the time that 60 was very affordable, but I'd also never done it before. seems like 60-100 is around standard, though. If I LOVED the work my max would probably be 150$ but I suppose theoretically I could be convinced higher :XD:

    16. Thank you @dm_sof for the mention <3

I have paid for only one faceup. It was my first doll I bought in 2021 and paid $60 for company faceup. It had incredible details on all over. Even small faint veins on side of forehead! I know now how it could’ve cost to get that kind of faceup done by someone else.

There was one artist I would have loved to send a head for commission last year but as a mom of three kids and two cats I could not afford it. For what I wanted, it would cost me round $200 plus shipping. But the artists skill and pricing was very worth it and reasonable and I so wish I could afford it!

Lastly, when it comes to my faceup on someone else’s dolls.
I am not promoting commission to keep my focus on my main work and family. Plus I just started faceup commissions this year. So I think my pricing is lower for what I can offer at my best.

    17. I just recently got a paulianne faceup done on my teacup Marrionettes by Dodolldream and it cost me about $250. It was completely worth it but it was easily the most expensive faceup I’ve had done. It’s definitely something I wish I could do myself but since I can’t I’m happy to pay for the really beautiful one and support the artists

    18. Must update this to say that I big on and won a Raquel Clemente faceup sooooooo I have officially spent on a faceup what I would on an expensive doll. I want to feel shame but I am too excited and it's freaking beautiful so... worth every penny.

    19. Her work is really gorgeous, so I'm sure you'll be thrilled with your new doll in hand!

    20. I spend about $180 on a Komorebi Dolls faceup on my Peaks Woods Tristan. Worth every penny imo. It's my favorite faceup in my entire collection.

My second most expensive faceup was the rainbow fantasy faceup for my Peaks Woods V.F. Mona for $110. Again, worth every penny as PW does beautifully detailed faceups!
