Multiple head sculpts or Full sets?

Oct 28, 2010

    1. Would you ever consider getting multiple head sculpts but keep one body?
Yes, but not forever. Just until I get another body for one of the heads. I was thinking about giving my Shushu SP face a different face-up and it would share the normal FP body until I get another one for it, but I'm not sure if I want to make a second doll from it.

Does it degrade the personality and identity of your doll by doing so?
No. But I like to see my dolls complete, with their own body, wig, eyes. I wouldn't relax until the bodyless head gets its own body.

Or is it just a lonelier (for the doll), but more economical alternative?
This economical alternative can be easily solved with a couple of months dedicated to save money. It is lonelier indeed and potentially frustrating. Definetly a temporary alternative for me.

    2. Would you ever consider getting multiple head sculpts but keep one body?
I would only ever do this if all of the floating heads were for one doll character. For instance sleeping heads or even just a head of the same sculpt with a different face-up / mod or something. I wouldn't want two separate characters to share a body.

Does it degrade the personality and identity of your doll by doing so?
For me, personally, it possibly would but I'm sure not everybody feels this way. I wouldn't feel like the floating heads were any less of a character or anything but I do think I might find it a little hard to bond with them if they were always roaming around bodyless. >.<

Or is it just a lonelier (for the doll), but more economical alternative?
Yeah, it's definitely more lonely for the doll. I mean, if I had one body and five heads, that's not like having five dolls, that's like having one body and five heads. :P You would only ever have one full doll and I really like seeing all of my dolls together, so I know it just wouldn't work for me.
It may be more economical, but I still don't think it's something I would consider. Plus, I wouldn't let myself buy other dolls / doll related things because I'd always feel bad for the floating head that still doesn't have a body. XD

    3. Would you ever consider getting multiple head sculpts but keep one body? This way you can change the look of your doll without having to spend on a full set (head + body) each time. Or would you really prefer to get an entirely new doll with that sculpt so that you can take pictures of them together, or to have a "new character".

I don't like having floating heads for extended periods of time -- I do end up with them from time to time when I don't have the cash to immediately buy a body. I have two now, and it drives me a bit batty at times, because they've been floating for a much longer time than normal. I do sometimes let them borrow bodies so I can actually interact with them from time to time, but it's a lot of trouble to not be able to just pick up the complete doll whenever the urge takes me. Instead I have to take off wigs, swap heads, and change clothing. I would much rather have multiple complete dolls.

Does it degrade the personality and identity of your doll by doing so? And does it degrade the hobby of doll collection to what might feel like a material avatar, where you can change it's hair and face and clothes depending on your mood.

It doesn't degrade the personality -- I consider what makes their character 'them' to be in the head, rather than the body. Though body type can be a factor in keeping the doll closer to the actual character in appearance. However, it's harder to bond with just a head, and the hassle of swapping heads around, means that the bodiless heads are bound to get less attention.

Or is it just a lonelier (for the doll), but more economical alternative?

It's more economical which is why I've been stuck with two floating heads for this long. However, I don't find it satisfactory. Of course other people's mileage may vary.

    4. Would you ever consider getting multiple head sculpts but keep one body? The only way I would ever have multiple heads for one body is if the head sculpt had sleeping or dreaming head counterparts of the same mold. I like having a variety of expressions for one doll, but I don't like having characters share bodies. The bodies are as important as the head mold for my characters.
Does it degrade the personality and identity of your doll by doing so? For me it would. As I said above, the body is as important for the character as the head sculpt. For instance, my Kid Delf Bory is meant to be a little girl, and the Kid Delf body looks perfect for her very young character. While I have a few MSD's now, none of them could share bodies because the physical attributes of the characters are quite different.

Or is it just a lonelier (for the doll), but more economical alternative? I like collecting these dolls, not just acquiring shells for fictional characters. Seeing all of my complete dolls together is something I really love seeing at the end of the day; the heads alone are very unsatisfying by themselves.

    5. Would you ever consider getting multiple head sculpts but keep one body? I would, yes. But the body would have to match both heads. This can be harder when you want to customize the body..

Does it degrade the personality and identity of your doll by doing so?
I don't think so. I would have thought so, but I got a free head with my first doll, and when that head is on the body it is like a different doll, and I don't feel like she's stealing the body or anything. Appearance becomes reality in this case, for me~

Or is it just a lonelier (for the doll), but more economical alternative?
Well, they can't take pictures together, but I haven't felt like it's a disadvantage yet. The advantage of being able to have that second doll outweighs the disadvantage of them having to share.
