Narae/Narin 43/44cm Mini Discussion Part 7

Apr 9, 2018

    1. @scripple - that's a fun picture! I love how beautifully the girl on the left can bring her knees to her chest!

I'm curious - are you planning to try sueding at all before wiring? I always thought (I may be wrong) that wiring was the option used for cases of very poor posing when nothing else worked. Also, is there a chance that having a wire in the joints would make the parts more likely to crack because of the pressure of the wire?

I bought some Masterpiece 9mm eyes for the girl I have coming - I've seen them look very pretty in other Naraes, so you might try some of them if you go shopping for eyes.

    2. @StellaMarigold kips and sueding basically do the same thing, which is to increase friction in the joint. They do it slightly differently and can work better in different cases. Bimong already installed kips in the joints where they can fit. I could replace them with sueding which would help with the getting sucked into the limb problem but would unlikely make a major difference in the way the pose would hold.

Wiring helps much more than either of the two in my experience, although I often do both as the sueding helps with the final bit of movement while the wiring holds the weight. If done correctly wiring won't place much stress on the joints. Use soft wire and use a small enough diameter that it basically just slides inside the doll as it bends. The tight resin on resin contact from the elastic almost certainly places more stress on the parts than the wiring I do. All of my resin dolls are wired and I place them poses at the extreme limits of their mobility. A mirodoll arm piece is the only part to crack, and it wasn't a piece that had any contact with the wire. (And is a piece that I've had arrive cracked in shipping, it's just not a great design - cheap dolls.)

Thanks on the picture and the eye recommendation.

    3. @scripple - thank you for your response and for the information on how to wire!

In an ideal world, my bjds (even the SDs) would pose like action figures or some of the vinyl/plastic dolls (I love how my 24cm Obitsu girl poses: she's solid as a rock, every limb stays in place perfectly when moved, etc.), so I'm glad to discover safe ways to aid in their posing. Wiring sounds very useful, and I've also heard of fabric-wrapped wire, which might also be a way to protect the resin from being scratched.

If you decide to check out the Masterpiece eyes, let me know if you would like color descriptions for any of the colors! I bought some browns and blues.

    4. My Narae came this morning!
She has elastic strings instead of silicone, and I think the silicone kips between the joints added more ability to hold poses compared to previous versions of this body. She poses and stands well out of the box. I've been having so much fun playing with her just for how easy it is to put her in poses compared to my other really poseable MSD - which isn't too much of a struggle, but my other MSD's engineering is 'stiffer' if I had to choose a word for it, because the joints use a lot of notches and locks.

    5. Congrats @aestellica.

@StellaMarigold I had vinyl dolls with internal skeletons for years before I got my first resin doll. It was really frustrating dealing with the flopping and kicking of the strung elastic doll. I stepped through kipping to sueding and finally wiring. Now that I wire all of my dolls I can barely tolerate most new dolls (larger ones anyway) before they are wired. You pick them up or try to dress them and they kick and flop all over the place. Once I wire them up I can generally pick them up and they barely move. Not quite as good as the vinyl dolls but soooo much better than an unwired doll.

I'll keep your offer in mind when it comes time for eyes. No idea what look to go for at this point. :XD:

    6. Congratulations @aestellica - she looks beautiful!

@scripple - your taste in posing sounds just like mine! I'm glad I'm not the only one!

I hope you have fun styling your Naraes - I have quite a few extra heads coming with the body I ordered, and at this point I don't have any idea what they are going to look like. We'll see what they have to say about it. :)

    7. Congrats! She's exactly who I'm waiting on as well so I'm happy to see owner pics of her.

    8. My Narae is suppose to come today, so I will be downstairs staring out the window cause I will open the garage door to be handed her, instead of the front door. Why? Well there is 1 huge ass Hornet just sitting near the door bell on the side wall and I am NOT getting stung by it. They are trying to get me and it is not even Summer or Spring :shudder:eek:

    9. Oh no! Hornets are so mean, too, they sting out of spite I swear.

Stay safe and post lots of pictures!

    10. Guess the mail person did not want to get stung either, they left a notice for me to pick up at the post office ( curse my weak bladder!!). Well that's okay I have to mail out a package anyway so it will be fine, but that bugger is still sitting on that wall. I can't believe it! Will get out that spray of death and use the entire can to kill it!

    11. I missed it too. Really wanted a Narae404. :( Been away from the hobby this year and missed so many final preorders. Such a shame.

    12. My N402 with classic body in light tan arrived today! She's incredible. I'm so glad I was able to sneak into the final preorder. I would have regretted missing out on this beautiful girl! I can't wait to get her a faceup and have her complete!

    13. Congrats on the incoming and newly arrived girls and boys!

No word on my order yet but I ordered two girls in olive skin as well as extra hand parts, so it might be awhile for me.

Gives me time to make wefts for their wigs!

    14. I got my Narae home today, but now I am off to work, can't wait to play tomorrow my day off! The light tan is amazing!!

    15. I'm so excited to see the Naraes in light tan!

When I was in Venice this summer I visited a mask shop and saw little masks that I thought would be perfect for MSD size. There were bigger ones that might've fit some SD heads and I should've gotten those too. Anyway, I tried the little mask on my Narae and it's such a good fit! Here are the pictures on Instagram.

    16. I did a complete wiring of the arms on my new Narae and removed the elbow kips. The arms pose like a dream now. I'm really happy with these new bodies. I like them so much I snagged the light tan one that was available here. Interestingly the elbow joint design was changed slightly from two parts to three. It doesn't affect the posing, there is just one less slot cover on the top of the elbow.

Here's a photo of the two together.

Tan Narae wants to play but normal narae is lost in thought.

The knees are wired too which is why the tan Narae can support her weight without resting on her heels which is the full range of motion.

    18. aaaaah they're so pretty!! I'm just dying for my girl to ship, lol.

The new body looks so cool, I love seeing all the cute poses they can make.

    19. Did anyone get some treats from Korea with their Narae? I did now I want to find a Korean store and get some more yummy goodies:D
