'Needy' Dolls

Oct 15, 2015

    1. There have been lots of conversations about perceived personalities in dolls. Those dolls that pose great...until you try to photograph them. Heads that can make the best bodies go limp as soon as they are attached. Jointed fingers that take on...interesting positions at the best/worst times. I could go for paragraphs. But do you have a resin resident with a strong owner attachment? Or one that constantly wreaks havoc, demanding your attention?

I have two. Both lean towards me whenever I sit still. It is as though they wish for me to hold them. Arguably their center of gravity is skewed, but the curious thing is that they only do it when I am quiet. If I am taking a photo? They are perfect gentlemen. If I am working with clay, knives, or other mediums? Not the slightest wiggle.

The shorter of them refuses to pose properly, even after two restringings, wiring, and several suedings. He's on a body I know can pose. I've seen the owner photos. It feels like he wants me to keep working on him.

Both of them have backgrounds which could lend to this, were I writing a novel. One went through several owners because he was 'too tall', and the other sat on a vendor shelf for ten years before I bought him.

So tell us about your 'needy' dolls. Your attention seekers. Your showoffs. Is there someone on your shelves who refuses to be left out?

    2. Oh yes. I do definitely have one of those. I worked on trying to get him together for quite a while (replacing first his body, then his head), and he was completely disagreeable through most of the process. I honestly questioned the choice of body for a while; it's one that's well regarded for posability, and looked gorgeous, but all he would do was buckle, flop, kick, and otherwise just "argue" with me about posing.

Until I decided to build up a narrative group around him and got his boyfriend home. Now he's a steady stander, easy to pose, falls into very natural positions when I set him down or adjust him, and is just overall a joy to play with and pose. Apparently he was just protesting his loneliness. :sweat

    3. I have a dramatic doll...I like to take pictures of multiple dolls together. So I contstantly fiddle with two or three dolls at a time, moving their hands and heads just right. But if I take too long setting up when a certain doll is involved. He will collapse into himself in a big heap!
It's never just a simple face plant, ever, it'll be a full on knees twisting, torso bending "oh my gosh, I'll never get those ten minutes of my life back" over-acted faint.
I have to chalk it up to poor body proportions and loose string or something, because his character is SUPPOSED to be a timid sweetheart...I don't know... >.>

    4. Haha, too funny! I have a volks nono who is completely spoiled... I am her second owner and purchased her with all her belongings. But soon she began demanding expensive collaboration outfits and spending all my money (because poor thing, she was so neglected!) Now this was just how I perceived her personality, but I later discovered we had a much bigger problem! :XD:

My gf purchased a doll and had her shipped to me temporarily. And she asked me to take photos and take her out with Jana (the Volks nono) she seemed a little hesitant to share her clothes with the new girl, and near the end of our photo shoot the new girl fell and her head plate was knocked out. We weren't suspicious though until the next doll my gf had shipped to me... this new girl similarly fell during a photo shoot and smooshed her nose :o (Jana also took a dive, but of course she was fine ...although she begs to differ... her dress got dirty **eye roll**)

I felt horrible! Normally I am very responsible with dolls, and now twice I was involved in a doll injury incident :atremblin... Jana being the only common denominator in both incidents, and noticing all involved dolls were also volks sd girls... we soon realized she wants to be the only volks girl in the house and will take any means necessary to keep her place and not share her stuff *too much* hahaha

When I caved and purchased my second volks girl my gf was warning me, don't let Jana near her! :sweat

And if you are wondering, we were able to fix both the head plate and nose of the injured girls - thank god!
...also Jana isn't allowed to play too close to any new girls anymore! (Volks or otherwise just as a precaution!)

    5. That would be Michael. I just got him over the weekend, and when I first got him, he felt so stiff, I was afraid I couldn't do much with him. I took him apart, cleaned and blushed him, restrung him, and now he tends to curl up and slouch a lot. He's a shy boy.

Pharaoh Ay is my other, but he's the opposite. He's a showoff. He manages to look arrogant, like he's got attitude regardless of what I'm trying to portray with him. The first time I took him to a meet, as soon as I stood him up to show him off, his skirt wrap popped loose and he exposed himself to everyone. So he's also an exhibitionist. He doesn't get out much anymore. :doh

    6. My Dollmore Vian is such a little diva, but she poses so elegantly because of it! Stands like a freaking rock! I think she likes the attention her steady posing brings out.

My friend has a couple of yoSDs (not sure of their sculpt) and the little boy once toppled over during a meet and took down every other yoSD on the table EXCEPT for his twin sister.

My Loongsoul Yesha, Jethro, is pretty sullen though. Doesn't seem to like being held too much. One time, I had him sitting in my lap while he was shirtless and he suddenly just snapped back on my arm!! Pinched me so bad he nearly broke the skin!

    7. My Rini is alot like this she needs more clothes, shoes and more props also anything pink, black, hello kitty, my little pony and anything she thinks of it be cute.

    8. The only one I have that seems to demand much is Thaddeus. He is an arogant, beautiful boy and knows it. He doesn't demand new clothes but he will only willingly wear a sarong. I had him in leather once for photos but he acted like he was dying of the heat. He was back into his sarong in quick order. He wants to be the center of attention wherever he is but he doesn't sabotage anyone to get it. He just seems to take over the room. That's Thaddeus.

    9. C is an attention whore -v-; the times his arm has snapped to pull his shirt up along with it are astounding... Like, yeah, I get it C, your abs are nice, thank you for reminding me. Other than that, Nowe is a distant fellow. He's not cold by any means, and I love playing with him but it almost feels as if he doesn't like being handled much because after a certain point of fiddling will stop posing altogether I swear. He also doesn't pose in public. Ever. It's like his knees become suddenly butter.

      And then there's Selene... I swear to god this guy. He appeared out of nowhere -I was hoping to use his head for another character-, he took over a body -that of my first doll's- that wasn't even supposed to be a color match (it's an old, white skin doll leaves body and the head is an ns luts event head) yet it works, he gets to wear everyone's clothes and if I don't play with him he always looks at least sixty times more sad than when I do and the same goes if I skip combing and redoing his hair for a couple days... talk about needy xD;

    10. In one word Loki. He has more cloths, props etc than any of my others but still demands more. He had two heads to begin with and got the most expensive body I own then demanded another body so he is now actually two dolls. He also demanded I buy two other dolls for him (to torment most likely) and if I look like doing much with one of the others I swear he pouts! When I took him to a meet he managed to pull another dolls wig off with no one touching him. He had somehow got his fingers in her hair and wasn't letting go when her owner picked her up. I adore him though and I think he knows it :)

    11. I have a few needy dolls. Demetrius, my Elfdoll Red, is probably my worst poser. But he is so perfect for his character that I can't change him for a different doll. I tried. So, I have to be a little more patient with him than I do my other dolls, maybe use an extra rubber band to make him hold a pose or a prop to make him stand.

Duke, one of my Dollzone Yuus, is needy in another way. I've never had a doll that "demanded" attention the way he does. He seems sure that every piece of 70cm clothing that comes into the house belongs to him, even though there are seven other 70cm guys here who need clothes as well! He seems to feel the same way about every new adult female doll who comes into the house too! Each one keeps his attention until a new one comes in. If I am going on a trip and taking one of his friends with me, I always feel like he wants to go too, and I usually end up grabbing him on my way out the door. He hates to be left out, and feels like he would be missing something if he doesn't go. Also, he seems to despise dressing up in costume. Regular clothes are okay, but NOT costumes!! None of my other dolls seems to have this problem.

One of my Dollfie Dreams, Miki (a DDH-06) also loves to have first pick of the clothes, but other than that, she is pretty sweet and friendly and not too needy.

    12. THAT is my Kazumi right there. She is a freaking Diva and she knows it. She and Avalon were the only MSD's... Then Noah came home - "Okay fine." except when Noah started getting more clothes. And more clothes...And some more clothes...

Then.... Well Vala and Avery came home.

She now barely poses for me except at meetups. Of course in the public eye she's an ANGEL. *eyerolll* Vala and Avery are just two troublemakers combined.

All of this happens with my GIRLS. My one boy MSD and my other boy dolls (off topic) are freaking ANGELS. But the girls?

They fall over when their poses in an outfit that doesn't look quite good on them.

They kick or flop when their picked up AFTER said embarrassing outfit.

      No new photo's?

Joints shift into weird positions after unpacking from meetup. Noah has been in a facepalm for a month.

....Remind me why I'm getting another GIRL?

    13. That would be my Mika by MiroDoll. She collapses no matter what position I put her in. The only way she'll stay in one place is if I lay her down. I got very frustrated with her and I cannot tell you how many times I restrung or re-sueded. Nothing helps. I finally gave up. I like her face and I wrote a wonderful back story for her character, but now I just wish I'd never bought her. It's sad.
