1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Nervous for your first purchase?

Oct 30, 2022

    1. I finally made a decision and am buying a doll through layaway. I thought long and hard, looked and looked through many many options and I found that I kept going back to Supia. They had a sale on that was ending soon and I figured, I keep coming back to this so purchase this while it's on sale.

I went through the whole process of picking out all the details then headed to checkout. I chose layaway and thought clicking through to the next page would give me more info about their layaway.

I'm not great at making decisions, I get nervous that maybe it's not quite right yet. I clicked through and it went into an "order placed" page. I panicked lol! Even though it was exactly the doll I wanted I hadn't had that moment of being 100% sure and clicking buy. It was a mix between absolute elated excitement and panic lol!

I sent them an email to clarify the layaway details but they didn't reply. I later realised you can log in to their website and message there, I got a reply within a day and over a few messages of questions and them being very lovely I set up my layaway with them and made my first payment.

I am in love with the photos of the doll and am so excited but at the same time I'm kind of nervous. I spent a lot of money choosing everything I wanted and I have this small fear of opening the box and being disappointed. I keep telling myself it's just an irrational fear and I'm sure I'll love it. I am sooo excited as well. So many mixed feelings!

Did anyone else have these mixed feelings when buying their first bjd? How did you feel when you finally hit that "buy" button?

    2. I had a very similar experience as you did! I was super nervous when I hit the "buy" button. It was a lot of money for me to spend on something for myself. I kept going back and forth on if I really wanted the doll but once I had her in my hands, I knew I made the right choice.

Don't worry if your doll isn't all that you wanted. Most first dolls aren't. You'll learn and grow with the rest of us and find what you like.

    4. Yes! It is a very nervewracking experience. Even having purchased multiple dolls I still find myself incredibly nervous each time. The first doll I bought was a Shoushou Doll Niko which is vastly different to what I'd usually like. I spent ages just looking at pictures and reviews.

Thankfully this community is very wonderful and welcoming. If you have questions you can reach out, others post new photos and reviews of dolls each day, or inform of any issues they saw with the dolls. It helps to ease the nerves for sure!

Most dolls too do keep their value even secondhand. So even if it wasn't quite what you loved you can always look to rehome them and continue the search for your ideal doll:)

    5. It took me about...hm....5 years? 6? Maybe longer? To be in a situation where I had the funds and was on my own and able to make that decision to get my first. My feelings were similar to yours--I was SO excited, but also scared, like what if I didn't like him? What if I had buyers' remorse? What if I felt like I wasted money that took SO long to save? I had a lot of anxiety, but when I opened his box, he was so perfect, I cried. No regrets, no remorse, no questioning. He was even better than I expected. I have bought, sold and traded many dolls over my almost 15 years in the hobby. He is still with me. <3

    6. After years of deliberation, I made the decision to purchase my first doll last month, and I have a very similar experience to yours ‒ I'm in love with both the head and the body based on the official and user photos I've seen, and I absolutely cannot wait to hold him in my hands, but I'm also anxious as to whether I'll really like him once he's here.

An additional source of stress for me is that his head and body come from different companies, so I can only hope they'll be a nice match.

    7. I honestly feel that way almost every time I make a doll purchase. :XD: Seeing a doll online and seeing it in person are two very different things, especially when you factor in things like eyes, wigs, face up or no face up, outfits and lighting. I’ve definitely fallen in love with a doll I saw online and then didn’t necessarily feel the same way when I got the doll, but then it turned into an opportunity to explore how I could customize to get them more to my own liking, which for me is fun.

I can’t wait to see your Supia doll! Their sculpts are super pretty!

    8. It's nice to see other people are in the same boat as me and I'm not the only one. It's also great to know they don't lose their value so if I ever buy one that's not 100% to my liking or I don't like it later I can always sell it.

That is so sweet and amazing! I love that. I'm sure I will fall in love with the doll when I open the box, I have photos from Supia's instagram saved on my phone and when I feel unsure I go look at those photos and I feel better again because they're incredible.
