1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

no BJDs - thoughts?

Jan 17, 2012

    1. I was a non-owner for a year while within the fandom. Some of the bjd owners in my former community (moved from chicago recently) actually looked down upon myself and a friend of mine who also didnt own a bjd. almost like we were not "worthy" to be in the bjd group in my are simply because we didnt have any. That was just MY experience not saying all owners are the same way!

Now that I own my very first bjd i have to say that i try to extend my hand as much as i can to any non-owner! they're people just like you and me! I adore making new friends, having discussions, planning ideas, drawings etc etc. all the fun of having a bjd comes from the owners imagination. thats the part I love best.

    2. No BJD here! I've a blythe, though. Heh, not the same, obviously.
Currently looking for 'the one'. :p
I know there have to be at least some people who view me as childish or incapable of 'getting on their level'. Meh. I can't be bothered to care, to be honest.
Sort of like women with children and the way they view childless women their age. The judgment is there.

    3. I don't think any less of them and anyone who does should remember this:

You didn't have a doll once. Think of how you felt then and change your tune.

I think any advice can help. I'm in the customization and sewing part of the hobby. OT dolls I've customized and I won't say anything else about them besides a mention but I do know that oil paints don't mix with vinyl/resin or that MSC adds tooth or that BBB's usually need to be re-strung. I do a lot of research.

But I will admit this...I was terrified to join DOA. I only wanted info on the doll I was purchesing because I couldn't look and I figure if anyone was rude to me I'd leave and not look back.

But I'm pleasantly surprised considering the bad rap DOA seems to have outside of it...IE: Elitests...

    4. This is a most interesting question as I have made the erroneous assumption that everybody on DOA probably owns or is in the process of acquiring a bjd. It simply did not cross my mind that people would find this forum interesting unless they were personally involved in the hobby. *Shrug* I'm indifferent, and apparently oblivious, and I would absolutely take advice from a non-owner..perhaps not on a technical issues, but certainly on aesthetics which is entirely subjective to begin with. After all advice is just that..advice.. take it or leave it.

    5. 1. doll owners and their view on non-BJD owners

(General view? How much do you think a person not owning a BJD can even know about them? How do you feel about getting advice from a user who doesn't own a BJD? Do you think that not taking non-owners seriously is a form of elitist thinking? Any meet-up experiences? Anything else?)

I've owned a bjd for... oh.. 6 weeks? I'm absolutely *sure* there are non-bjd owners on this forum who know WAY more about the hobby then I do. Owning a doll or not owning a doll can't tell you much about any single person's knowledge or experience.

I also think the hobby and eventual (?) doll purchase would be much more enjoyable for someone who joined the community and took the time to research and learn before making the initial buy.

      as well as

      2. non-BJD owner experiences

(General view and experiences on DoA/real life? Do you think you shouldn't give advice to someone when you don't own a BJD? If yes, what kinds of advices wouldn't you be willing to give? Do you feel like you're not part of the community, because you don't own a BJD? Has this made you reconsider the hobby? Anything else?).

Even before I had doll in hand, I could have contributed info for sewing for a doll, since I've been sewing obsessed for the better part of the last decade and have sewed for other types of dolls. I don't think anyone should be written off as useless based on their dolly status!

    6. Some people make look at BJDs as a form of art. And it is really....an extension, if you will.

    7. 1. doll owners and their view on non-BJD owners

      General view?

Not much really. I hardly know who owns a doll and who doesn't here. I was never a BJDless DoA member either. I joined after i owned a doll. I don't understand why people would be interested in joining the community if they have no plans to own a doll.

How much do you think a person not owning a BJD can even know about them?
They might know what dolls are from what company, prices, artists... but you don't understand what a BJD is until you have one.

How do you feel about getting advice from a user who doesn't own a BJD?
I don't see the point. There are many knowledgeable and experienced people here, I would rather seek their opinion if I need.

Do you think that not taking non-owners seriously is a form of elitist thinking?
I'm not sure what it means not to take them seriously, so i'll say no, it's not.

      Any meet-up experiences?
Yep, a few. I prefer small ones. The more people you have. the bigger the chance to bump into someone annoying and egotistic. >.>

    8. A corollary question to this (Not worth its own thread, but that I'd love to be able to ask) is; Do you feel differently about a non-owner's opinion if they've had dolls in the past but sold them, as compared to a completely "new" non-owner?
