Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Obitsu v. other brands?

Nov 26, 2013

    1. I love vinyl dolls! Possibly even mor than resin! The posing really strikes me the most and I LOVE it! Out of all the vinyl doll brands put there I love Volks Dollfie Dreams. I adore anime sculpts!:fangirl:

    2. Vinyl dolls are a lot of fun. They're much easier to carry around if you like to go out and about with your dolls for photo shoots and all, and you don't have to worry about chips or ears or fingers breaking if they take a tumble. On the other hand, there isn't a great variety of sculpts and most vinyl dolls have an anime look, so if you want a more realistic looking sculpt resin may be the way to go. Vinyl stains very, very easily and the stains can be difficult to get out. But both Obitsu & Volks sell replacement parts. I also love all the optional hands available for Volks' Dollfie Dream line. I have both vinyl and resin and I love them both as a doll medium.

    3. I personally love vinyl dolls like obitsu and Dollfie Dreams. They're lightweight, durable and best of all for me is that you can take them apart at the seams to put clothing on. Skirt doesn't fit over the hips? No problem! Just pull them apart at the waist and slip it on that way. I find them very convenient and much more fun for these reasons.

    4. Ah, but it is perfectly easy to put a resin head on a vinyl body! So you can "have your cake and eat it."

    5. Quite true! I have a resin head on a vinyl body myself. It's not a perfect resin/ vinyl match but with blushing all things are possible, lol!

    6. Obitsu 60 was my first doll and I was sure I would sell it after I got a resin one, never I imagined how much I would appreciate her as I never have to worry chipping her parts (skeleton is an exception and I have broken the spine once..easy to fix, change and repair). I dont need to be too careful with her and it is such a joy when I need to redress her and I can simply pop off her arms and head to fit all kind of difficult clothing :) ..same with eyes, the sockets are just great, I can swap eyes like crazy without worrying that I will run out of eye putty + she poses soo well and stays the way you want without snapping around.. Staining is a minus as well as variety of bodies and heads but that's about it.

      My first ever doll :)

    7. Obitsus are peg-and-socket joints, and ABJDs are strung. I have a 25cm obitsu body that I absolutely love for the poseablility. The one downside is that the vinyl is fairly hard to clean, even with Magic Eraser.

    8. I have a tiny obitsu girl and it's wonderful how greatly she poses! And I agree with the durability - although nothing has happened so far like falling or knocking, I'm kind of relieved that she could be safe at those times as well. :D

When I went to my first bjd meet, I was extremely worried about how safe my SD boy could travel - I even wrapped his hands so his fingers won't break! - but I wasn't worried about my obitsu at all. :)

    9. I've never actually heard/seen a person hating on Obitsus before, and I've been in this hobby for quite some time. There are plenty of people who don't LIKE them, sure, but that's just a personal preference thing, and you can't blame them for that. Like many others have mentioned, certain Obitsus simply aren't on topic for this particular site so of course you're not going to see as many of them.
I've owned resin dolls in all sizes over the years, but I recently purchased a Dollfie Dream who I adore. The DDS body has vastly superior posing ability compared to my resins, but for some people that doesn't matter so much as the look and feel of the doll. Vinyl scares me with how easily it stains, so it's kind of a pain in the butt with how careful I have to be when handling her compared to my resins. Resin certainly chips easier, on the other hand, but for me that is much more easily avoided than the staining on vinyl.
That said, I still plan to buy more Dollfie Dreams! I'll simply be investing in a pair of cotton gloves as well. XD

    10. I love the 60cm Obitsu bodies especially with the large squishy bust! I love the Obitsu Haruka and Gretel heads!. They both look amazing with faceups!

    11. Much like everyone else, I've never actually seen anyone hate Obitsus, or say anything bad. However, due to them being off topic, I was hesitant to look into them... But I'm glad I did! I have two 1/6 (25cm and 27cm) girls, an 11cm body searching for a head, and a 1/3 Ai-chan body searching for a body. They pose FANTASTICALLY. But they are vinyl and structured differently than strung dolls. They're different, but it's about what you like really!

    12. I have known friends who puts Dollfie/Resin heads on Obitsu bodies because their joints are great at holding poses .
Not to mention it is also easier to find replacement parts if you break something.

Staining cannot be avoided on vinyl dolls, just like what everyone mentioned but it can be removed with a little patience. :sweat
It is not really that disturbing if you keep the doll in full clothings most of the time.

    13. I love obitsu dolls!! it's sad that we can't discuss them here (at least the 1/6 sizes), I haven't found a good forum for them and I also love Isuls/pullips and I would love to have a 55cm Obitsu someday.
