1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Obsession

Jan 28, 2016

    1. I used to be one of those people that would wonder why my friends spent so my money on their dolls. To me they were just dolls. That was until I looked them up and fell in love with them! Now I have a few but I want another one. I'm poor though...so I try to lessen the need to buy one by watching box opening videos but it just makes it worse. I need a girl! My job pays too little for my new hobby! :...(

    2. Well, this can be applied to virtually any sort of hobby that involves collecting, whatever it might be - comics, video games, dolls, coins, stamps, etc. Those outside of the hobby will always question the amounts of money and time spent on such activities. It can even extend to luxury items or intangibles, like yachts, classic cars, or even food, so it can be very pricey! Whatever the hobby might be, I say that as long as it's something you really love, then go into it wholeheartedly. As long as the spending is within budget, it doesn't really hurt to be passionate about any hobby...

    3. There are dolls who are a little less pricey. And in a small budget (like mine) it isnt imposible but it takes longer to get a new doll. I know it seems unfair (all the box openings, its like everyone is getting a new doll each week but not me XD) but in the end its such a reward to finally have the doll I saved up for, for so long!

    4. Yep! But as it's already been said-- it kind of goes along with any hobby that involves collecting. I feel the same way as you do, though, & I'm sure many others are right there with you. You are not alone, lol

    5. I feel your pain! I am a high school student with very little time to work so I really don't have much money. Unfortunately I have my heart set on a very expensive sculpt so I am doing everything I can to save money. Just save a little money from each paycheck so eventually you will have enough for your dream doll. Good luck!

    6. I used to be like that. Now I feel like they come to no use. Sigh. I know I'll find love for them again, but right now I just feel a bit bleh

    7. Ah, yes. Obsession. That pretty much sums it up. But you're okay, let it take over you. You're in good company. :dance

    9. I go a while without obsessing then it just comes back LOL

    10. As a broke college student, I totally know what you mean. However, I was finally able to get my doll when I order a $120 one from Mirodoll. This is an incredibly low price, but even then I still had to order her on layaway and really stretch my funds until I got her. I've saved a lot of money by making her clothes and wig myself. I also make my own eyes and did her faceup myself, but honestly the cost of the supplies made it cost just about as much as if I had bought a pair of eyes or commissioned a faceup. Overall I think getting into this hobby is definitely doable on a limited budget, but you have to be willing to be patient and take things slowly. If you can't sew then you may have to save up for an extra month just to get an outfit, but I think it will be worth it in the end. Sometimes I feel bad looking at all these other dolls with beautiful and expensive eyes, wigs, and clothing, but I just have to remember that I'm in this hobby because it is something I enjoy, not because I want my doll to win a beauty contest.

    11. One thing I know, this hobby makes you either be patient and wait, or you grow crazy. But yeah... obsession is there no matter what. Sometimes it's necessary if you are going to try and make money and save it for things you want... It's so easy to spend it on little things.

    12. I'm like this right now. When I ordered my first doll I was really patient waiting on him to get home. Now I'm starting to get less and less patient with every new doll I order lol. I didn't think I would get into the hobby that much, but I find myself craving more dolls as time goes on. Well, as long as I'm not spending every less dime I have, being a bit obsessed isn't so bad.

I'm a college student as well, so I have to either save up over time or use layaways. As others said, this hobby can be enjoyed on any budget.

    13. Have you considered making doll clothes or accessories to sell in order to save up for the new doll? It would get you extra money but also be something you could do with your current dolls :3

    14. Oh gosh, I feel you for sure. Most of the time the only way I can afford a doll and still pay all my bills is via layaway and/or the secondhand market. (Blessed be secondhand sellers who accept layaway....) I've found that the price has kept me from impulse buying A LOT, though. (Unlike with when I collected fashion dolls....)
