1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. 2. There are a lot of us that love the classic look of many older companies, myself included. The market may have changed because there is so much more variety now, but that doesn't mean the demand for older company dolls has gone away. :)

    4. I hope your right

    5. Some people might forget some companies, but others will just be long lost favorites.
I.E. Dream of Doll is still really well loved, despite being long gone now.

    6. @blinks333 I'm new so I'm not familiar with older dolls. Would you mind posting some pics for appreciating

    7. Hey @binks333 from my observations, old bjds have been gaining in niche popularity for several years now. I think that while the current aesthetics have shifted away you see both old timers returning to and continuing to embrace the old look and newbies sometimes get really enthusiastic about it as well, for different reasons like bargain hunting, wanting to curate an off beat collection or vintage / nostalgia appeal.
With considering selling an old collection I'll advise you that it's difficult selling when you are too emotional about it, or if you are going to be caught up on getting a certain price for everything, it slows things down a lot and can just pile on the misery. Some old dolls from trendy companies are worth plenty now and others are not going to be able to sell for much at all. I firmly believe that most any old doll can find a really enthusiastic new owner of you are patient enough and the price is right for the circumstances. So if that's what you are really worried about, just that they find a new owner to be excited about them, I definitely think it's possible.
      Good luck to you <3

    8. I think a lot of people still love the older dolls and sculpts. I have a few old ones that I’ve acquired. They’re yellowed and kind of floppy, and I adore them!

    9. I absolutely adore older dolls! I pride myself on owning a Volks girl from 2000. (Wait... 23 years ago?! That's impossible?!)

    10. Ohhh, I love the older dollies, they have that special vibe! <3

    11. One of my most recent acquisitions is a head from 2005. And I still have a weakness for HyperManiacs!

I think there is specific interest in older dolls both from old-timers like us and from newer members who vibe with that style more than the current style. I've certainly seen an uptick in interest in Dream of Doll, classic Luts Delf, Doll in Mind and the oldest of Volks sculpts for example.

It really depends on what you have and where the current retro trend is. It does take a little time to match up the old doll to the people who would be interested. I think it doesn't always occur to people now to even look for some older sculpts because they assume a search would be fruitless.

    12. I also love the older dolls! I started back in '07 & have spent the intervening years dipping in and out of the hobby, so the older ones make me so nostalgic. After all, they're the styles that I first fell in love with, so they're still some of my favorites and make up a significant amount of my collection. That said, prices do vary wildly on these. The ones who are more popular can usually sell for more than they were new (a lot of the old Dream of Dolls, Delfs, and some Volks), but the unpopular ones often go for as low as $100-200 since there just aren't as many of us who are interested in those.

    13. Reading this post made me wonder what I've missed! Could somebody please upload a quick photo comparing two dolls, one from the old times, and one which would reflect today's trends? I haven't even thought there would be a change in the bjd looks. I rarely log in to the forum these days, but on the whole, it never looked to me like there was a change in the way the dolls look in general.

    14. I think size, articulation, realism, and variety are what stand out then to now for me. Then it used to be about stylistic faces with large eyes (16-20mm eyes for the large dolls), single jointed bodies, everything roughly in the 58cm/45cm/26cm height triad. Very few companies.

Now it's trended towards smaller eyes in smaller heads on larger/taller/slimmer bodies, bodies with tons of points of articulation (jointed hands used to be such a far off dream and now they are so easy to acquire!), tons of size options, tons of resin colors (remember when it was all just normal or white?), tons of companies and artists.

If what you like is what was popular nearly 20 years ago you can still find it, after all Volks is still going strong as are a number of other older companies, but it's not like the El Army days when visual kei was king. Now you're more likely to come across a muscular 70cm man with sharp eyes, or a willowy 64cm femme fatale in heels that could slay.

    15. OMG, the El Army  That takes me back! Who didn't want to put a handsome El in a tutu back then?! Personally I haven't seen any doll trend so strongly nowadays. But you're right that it's probably a matter of there being so much variety to choose from today :cheer Still, no lack of love for the oldies!

    16. I was really surprised that my new Luts SDF Bory takes 14mm eyes when my 2012(ish) CP Delf Breakaway takes 18-20mm…

I do wish it was a little easier to price out old dolls if you want to post up an ISO. I know ballpark what I *think* I would reasonably expect to pay for a DoD E-an, but it’s hard when they almost never seem to go up for sale.

    17. I think the more old the company is, the more valuable a doll becomes. Especially if the company isn't around anymore. That makes the doll even more special and unique in my opinion. Also, a lot of people (me included) love "old style" dolls, they feel kind of "nostalgic", so there will always be somenone interested in your dolls if yioou decide to sell them, I'm sure of it :3nodding:

    18. I definitely have embraced the newer styles as my main colelction but you will pry my breakaway 05 and woosoo out of my cold dead hands. I was SUCH a CP/Luts old Delf person back when I first started and lived for the visual kei and tutu armys of shiwoos and els. I still regret selling my old soony and my unmodded woosoo.

    19. I still love my oldies because of their unique charm (DoD, Luts/CP) and was fortunate to have adopted two of them (DoC Petsha and a Delf El head which I bought a Feeple60 body for). :3nodding:

    20. With my fashion doll background, I've always been into the more realistic BJDs (e.g. Iplehouse, etc). But as of now, I mainly have the realistic old timers eg Supia & Zaoll, and in love with Limhwa xD Still, one big-eyed, single-jointed and bubble-headed doll steals my heart and that's my Volks Nana that might also be over 20 y o now. She was described to me as very old already when I got her in 2017 lol If space and time weren't an issue, I'd sure have a few other older volks dolls such as Tae, F16, etc. Aaand some limhwa girls too from 15 years ago or so :D
