Open eyed vs closed eyed dolls vs in-between

Apr 27, 2021

    1. I prefer opener eyes, and sleepy heads if I need to picture the doll with closed, but not only closed eyes
      Like them opened

    2. Dreaming, romantic, valentine, decadent, whatever they're called half-closed eyes just sing to me:blush
I have to resist falling in love with every half closed eye sculpt I see.
Dunno what it is about them.
That said epen eye sculpts are lovely and lively. They really help the realism. Make your doll come alive.
And sleepy sculpts are useful. If you don't fiddle with your doll for a while, it's not like you forgot about them, they're just having a long nap:mwahaha

I'd love if every doll sculpt came with all three options!

    3. I definitely prefer open eyed dolls. I have a couple of sleeping faceplates for pukis but never really use them except one-off photos or scenes in photo-stories.

    4. For me, the idea of closed or almost closed eyes really appeals to me, but I haven't really found any that I like.
It gives me the feeling they're cosy and have no worries in their slumber. The carefree feeling of peacefully dozing off is something I'd definitely wish my doll could experience.

    5. Open eyes, always - I like my dolls with alert, intense expressions.

Half-lidded/dreamy eyes don't appeal to me at all - if I had a choice between open-eyed and dreamy-eyed versions of the same sculpt, I always go for the open-eyed one. And if the sculpt is designed to be dreamy-eyed, it's pretty much a dealbreaker even if I like the rest of the features.
Not really into sleeping dolls either, I almost never pay attention to them.

I think my preferences are partly influenced by kind of photoshoots I like to make... which is of my dolls being out and about in the world. Dreamy/sleeping/lying down shoots really aren't my jam.

    6. I have all 3 types in my collection. Open eyes are the vast majority of course, but dreamy eyes can add a wonderful diversity to the crew. And I even have a closed eye doll who is a deceased fairy languishing on a fainting couch, and I absolutely adore her. It’s all about what best suits my particular character.;)

    7. I have both open and half-lidded in my collection and it depends on what the character wants/needs as far as purchasing them. I am drawn to the half-lidded dolls a lot and they'll usually get a second (or third or fourth) look from me. That being said, the majority of my collection are the open-eyed variety.

I don't have a doll with completely sealed eyes but I have one that is very close. Kulfi is an Impl Model Ziv and his eyes are just barely open. Like literally only a few mm. Any eyes in his head don't really show unless you're extremely close and even then you're not going to get a lot of detail on the eyes. Malachite is also an Impl Ziv (they are both custom colours) and has had an eye-opening mod to give more landscape for his eyes but the opening was only for a half-lidded look (his character usually has his eyes partially closed). Kulfi's character is functionally blind so the near closed eyes for him makes sense.

    8. i own all 3 types but i gotta say im a sucker for dreamy/ half closed eyes

    9. I really like closed eyes dolls, but I think if I were to actually buy one I'd be sad that I don't have a version where it's open. Instead I'd much rather buy the romantic/half-closed sculpts and keep the spirit of the character there, even if half-closed sculpts can be their own trouble eyewise.

    10. I like to buy open eyes mostly. I really love the look of sleeping or half open eyes but they need to have pretty eyeshadow for me to like it

    11. I have a Dollzone Cherry (60cm mature girl). Her eyes are very wide open, but I wanted her to have a more romantic look. I had a second head modded for her with half closed eyes, and she's gorgeous. I also have a smiling Ninodoll Bada boy, and I had the idea of giving him a closed eye expression on his alternate head, and he's adorable! And I have a Dollzone Yue (70cm male) who has a completely closed-eye head, but he's not a sleeping character. He's just a regular guy... who has closed eyes! I've never explained it, I just accepted him the way he is.

Normally I like my doll heads to be eyes open, but several of my dolls have alternate sleeping heads, too. They've come in handy.

    12. The only time that I like closed eye dolls (for myself, anyway - I always like looking at other people's interpretations) is when I pose them actually sleeping; sometime the dolls I buy come with a sleeping faceplate, and I enjoy fiddling around with those snoozing poses. But other than that, posing them standing, sitting or walking, they always look like postmortem photos to me - which is an art that I have no talent for. :sweat

    13. I have only one type in my collection: open eyes. But I like it, because it gives opportunity to choose and change eyes) But maybe in future I ll buy head with eyes closed.

    14. I veer towards the normal open eyes and the dreamy eyes for dorries. Lucky enough to own both types and for dreamy eyes, they tend to have a very seductive appeal. XDXDXD

    15. I usually will go for the open eyes, but I have one doll with dreamy eyes and I prefer him that way in comparison with the open eyes version because that version the eyes are too big and he looks cartoony.

    16. I mostly have open eyes but I do like half closed for the expression sometimes. I like closed eye or sleeping faceplates too, I have a few but haven’t had a chance to set up photos with any of them yet.

    17. I prefer open eyes, but I do have one winking and two guys with those half slitted ones. Depending on the camera angle the half slitted eyes can look either awake or asleep. I don't have any closed eyes dolls, while I can admire them, they just aren't something I want to collect.

    18. I'd say the romantic/half-lidded/dreamy eyes, even though I only have one doll with them so far lol, but I want more so badlyyyy. I'd also say the younger the character, the wider, more open eyes

    19. I have open, dreamy and sleeping eyes in my collection and love them all. I think the one I have the most trouble with are the half closed ones as they are so hard to photograph, so I'm not sure I will be getting more in the future. I'm not a huge eye connoiseour so I don't think I'd mind more sleepies, though.

    20. I prefer opened eyes but I do own one doll that has her eyes closed and I just love her. She looks so pretty and peaceful. She's easily one of my favorites.
