Ouchie! BJD collecting is a dangerous hobby

I have a nice bruise blossoming on my left arm from being kicked by Adelai yesterday, and a pleasant black and blue pinch-mark on my right index finger because his headcap pinched me. ~_~ I don't even want to TRY restringing him.
But I love him anyway. *cuddles her baby*

 

I enjoy restringing my dolls too. ive gotten pretty quick at it. i use ribbons to pull the strings through. the only thing i dont like is sometimes my fingertips are sore the next day. I also once punched myself in the face when i was putting one of the heads back on and i had pliers pulling on the S hook and the slipped and POW i punched myself in the mouth.

 

I'm scared now.

 

I managed a fairly nice cut across a finger in my left hand while seperating Yukio's fingers ^^;;;;

(Granted, I was doing many unsafe things with that razor blade.)

 

I'm sorry for those of you who had such a hard time! I must be very fortunate -- I've restrung Sera 3 times so far (using the restringing tool from Luts) & never had a problem.

 

Annie-chan: OUCH! *squeezes eyes shut* I'm squeamish about blood and your story sounds terribly painful! I hope you've recovered nicely from it, though.

MysteryAya: I've done that, too. XD;; Thwacked myself a good one in my enthusiasm.

shinibun: Try loosening the strings. Stringing Shiina was a struggle when I cut his elastic too short, no surprise there. It's almost hopeless trying to get his foot and hand hooks into the elastic when you have too little slack. (The old skin MSDs are much harder to string than the pureskin new bodies.) But I recently bought him new, longer elastic, and he's so much easier to string now. ^_^ Ten minutes, tops.

 

I've restrung my boy enough times now that I don't dred doing it anymore. But I still don't like having to do it. ^^; Last time I cut my finger trying to remove the S-hook from his head and didn't notice until blood was dripping down the ribbon I was using. o.o

 

That's probably it; I'll take him apart again ( ) this weekend and see if I can re-do the knots to lengthen the elastic at all. If not, time to invest in some new stuff as right now my darling boy is driving me crazy XD; Thanks for the advice!

 

I've come to enjoy restringing my boys too. ^^ Even though it can be slightly painful, it really is a great bonding experience.
The first time was scary! and took forever, but I've gotten used to it now and it only takes 10-15 min. I usually use a piece of coated wire to pull the string through, it's a godsend.

I can't remember exactly what I was doing at the time... but once, for some reason, I had Ryou's head pulled way up, and it snapped back down on the side of my hand. >.< Wow that hurt. It left a lovely half circle bruise on the side of my hand that hurt for weeks!

I've gotten my fingers pinched in joints a few times too, of course. X_X And once my sister picked up Bunz, and as she moved him past my head, he kicked. Got me right upside the back of the head. I know the little brat did that on purpose! My sister thought it was hilarious. >>;

I think the most painful though was when I turned to look at something just after standing Ryou up, only to hear my sister gasp! And I look back just in time to have Ryou plummet right into my cheekbone and shoulder. His pointy lil nose left a rather nice bruise.

I don't have the courage to even attempt restringing...

But once Lucian did fall off the table while I was trying to pose him and bash me in the skull with his hard little head...

And just now, as I was washing the stains off his legs...

Dorian kicked me in the nipple. ._.

 

LOL! Dorian doesn't like pervy ponies touching his leggies! He musta thought you were gonna get gropey or something so he had to stop you! Poor Foof.

If it makes you feel better, Narue fell on my head too. Hit me with her head. And up until then I'd been terrified of hurting HER! I'm absolutely positive I was in more pain than she was.

 

I use ribbon to hold onto the elastic when I restring Kelyn... And I've found that wrapping a dishtowel around the end of the ribbon helps when I have to pull the knot up through his neck (which is really hard to do!). It keeps the ribbon from cutting off circulation, gives me more to grab onto, AND I can pull harder because of it!

 

I dread restringing Lutz, considering that I can't even seem to get Nai's head put on him correctly. >_>

I need to do it eventually, though. >_< His crazy leg is just... Argh.

So far the worst that's happened is hot glue burns while decorating a hat, and Xacto blad cuts while attempting to make a fur wig. ^_^;;;

 

But I had already washed his butt! XD The time for groping was past!

I guess he couldn't kick me in that position, though. So I guess it was revenge for bending him over my leg and stcking a very cold Magic Eraser in his buttcrack. ops:

 

lol atleast im not alone. i wanted to chuck midori's head across the room but threw the pliers instead because they can be easily replaced than my poor girls head.

 

Haha memories of me sitting on my floor, Doli between my legs, my mom pulling on him, me yanking on the hanger pulling the elastic... all to get his frickin hand on... >_>;;; I so broke a sweat doing that. His arms are WAY too tight. Plan on fixing it as soon as my elastic comes. It isnt the most fun thing to do - but it really helps you bond!

Shinta had crazy legs when he first came; I made the mistake of sitting down while trying to pose him without my glasses on, and he kicked me right in my eye. @_o

First time I restrung Yue, I did it with Connie's help. ^_^ But like... I still got blister from trying to pull Yue's arm together myself. ops: Second time I restrung Yue (to change his eyes) my mom was there, and I end up with 2 blisters in my right hand that my cello teacher chased after me and demanded to know why. I dare not tell him I got it from restringing a $500 doll.... He will K-I-L-L me. ops: XD But couple days ago when I changed Touya's hand (he comes with 3 pairs of hands. Dang.) and kinda did an arm-restring with the string puller, it was much easier than I thought with the tool and I didn't get any blister. Hoooray! XD;;;;;;

 

^^; Eeee.. I love restringing my Ttory. Its fun. But on my first try, I tightened the elastic too much. I was using chopsticks in place of her feet, had her foot in one hand and the elastic and chopstick in the other. I stretched out the elastic, ready to attach her foot, then dropped the foot AND chopstick, saving the elastic from shooting into her body by inserting my pinky where the chopstick was... x_x the elastic made a snapping noise and my pinky felt broken. But it was just smarting ^^;;

I also remember this one time I was posing her head while she was standing. I guess one of the loops of elastic slipped out of the little s-hook holdy thing while I was tilting her head. Her head snapped violently to the right, and the left side of her body buckled and went lip. She fell forward and clocked me on the nose with her hard forehead ^^;;; I saw stars. I was mostly freaked out -- it looked like a dolly convulsion or fainting spell <XD!!

Other than that, Purin and I have existed in peace. Everynow and then she headbutts me in the face, but now that I'm used to all her little quirks, we don't have as many accidents ^^;;

 

I actually find that the best thing for ME to use was one of those long thin ball link chains like the ones thatyou use on keychains. Its flexible, weighty, and doesnt snap easily under presure and is MUCH easieron your hands than wire
