Outing with Your Bjds - taking your BJDs out in public places

Sep 16, 2014

    1. The first time I took one of my dolls out for photography was in a small forest area close to home. I was pretty much alone since it was in the middle of the day. I don't really mind other people when I'm out photographing though I have some bad experiences with people and my dolls so I do try to keep a close eye on people to make sure they're not doing anything bad.

      And here we are:

    2. The first place that I ever too Nadeko was a shoe store and I'm not one to care about what people think so I wasn't worried about that. I was more worried about dropping her or getting her dirty or broken.
It was late at night so it was too dark for pictures though and we didn't even try to take any, the lady at the store was pretty nice and seemed pretty interested in Nadeko.

I like taking her out though and sometimes take her out just to walk around, visit my grandma or go grocery shopping. And I don't mind other people, I have gotten a few stares and rude remarks but have also met a lot of awesome people that were genuinely interested in dolls and just wanted to chat and take pictures.

    3. If I ever get a good camera, I will be more likely to take them out for photo sessions in the park, but so far my dolls have not even left my room.
My friend, however, brings her 1/6 boy with her to my house whenever she visits. She likes to have him sit with my 1/6 boy so they can have a play date while she and I visit.

    4. If I didn't have two human children with me at all times, I'd probably take my resin kids with me! ( or at least the small one). No shame in it! XD I'd love to some cute photo shoots out and about. Although, if I go fabric shopping for a specific one, I might bring it along, just to see if what I'm looking at is "right" of that makes sense.

    5. Do I know that exposing a resin doll to direct sunlight can cause them to yellow faster but I like to take my girl out with me when I got to craft stores and sometimes to the mall. I do keep her in my bag while walking in and out to keep the sun off her as much as possible. I plan on taking her with me to an anime convention and I just want to know if anyone else takes their dolls with them. I will say I deal with anxiety and paranoia from time to time and I am getting a tiny to be my travel buddy. My dolls just make me feel better.

    6. I frequently take my dolls out and about with me. I keep them wrapped in a light-weight shawl when they're riding in the bag, but I do take them and out and carry them in my arms too, since I primarily have big dolls.

I took Severus out with me today, in fact! It was nice. I took him out of the bag at lunch and wandered the mall with him in my arms. I got some looks, but some nice questions too. :) (There was a small child at the teriyaki stand who was much more outraged that I was eating with chopsticks.)

I almost always have at least one doll with me when I travel. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, and if that's how you enjoy your dolls, then that's certainly fine too. :)

    7. Well Im glad im not the only one. I love taking Lorelei with me. I too took her with me today. I went to the mall and had so much fun walking around with her. I actually went to my workplace today even though it was my day off. I had to pick up some velcro to fix her wig and was carring her with me and my manager stopped me and asked if she could hold her. I let her...with very close supervision. People have heard of her but never seen her yet so they got a surprise

    8. I take mine with me on vacations and overnight trips usually. I don't if there's a chance I'll have to leave them in the car for certain activities, but if they can easily go with me or stay in a hotel room, I do. For daily outings, I don't often, unless it's a doll meet, but sometimes I will for outdoor photoshoots and for size comparison while shopping for them. Sometimes I take them to the fabric store so I can compare and be sure certain fabrics aren't too heavy or the print too large or the color clashing. When I worked, I would take them with me sometimes. Just like you, they did calm my nerves. It was especially helpful as a secretary dealing with stressful phone calls. I could have my doll in my lap or be toying with a hand or foot while talking, and it would help me relax and handle the situation better.

    9. in my opinion: terrifying. i could never; im part of the younger age group in this hobby and i could never risk having one of my friends spotting me carrying a doll :( so i just take pictures in my backyard (im even scared to take pics in my front yard!). its like my little secret.

    10. I take my little ones with me when I go out, but they stay in my bag or pocket. No one even knows I have them! My own little secret. I just like having them with me. It makes me feel like I'm not alone.

    11. I don't have one just yet but I've thought about this. I live in a small town, word travels ridiculously fast and gossip at the speed of light, so during errands or in public I don't think so. Unless they would be hidden away in a bag (which I still need to find).

I have to for fabric or clothes, sure I can see that, but even then I would want someone with me for emotional and moral support. Keep the negativity away. Just have to take little baby steps.

    12. I have had my my doll for almost a year and she has never left the house. While the idea of doing photos with them out side sounds fun I couldn't bring my self to draw that attention to me. I already have problems talking to people I don't know as it is. Now I will take her a convention if there is a meet up being held.

    13. The only place I've ever really taken my dolls regularly was to work. For 8 years I worked at and eventually was the manager of a hookah lounge and on nights that weren't likely to be busy the whole time I would sometimes bring a doll to show my friend who worked there with me. We had very little time to see each other outside of work and since he loved my dolls (and was very attached to a few of them) I'd bring them up so he could visit with them after close. If I took any pictures (very seldom because it was so dark in there) it was after close too.
Usually the only people who would say anything about my dolls were the regular customers whom I knew somewhat personally, and they were sometimes kind of curious. Nobody ever tried to touch my dolls but I made sure never ever to leave them out unattended. I remember one time though I had brought a girl doll with me who was very breasty (LoongSoul ChenXing) and some strange guys I didn't know walked past making sexual comments about her jokingly. Honestly it made me a bit sad for my poor doll to say the least.
Other than that I remember my friend and I once went to a casual dining restaurant with our dolls (one doll each) and the waiter made a bunch of comments that I'm sure he thought were hilarious but it pretty much ruined my mood. When I go out to eat I basically want to be left alone except for the needed pleasantries.

    14. When I first started taking my dolls out it was just to the park by my apartment, or to interesting looking places nearby. Pretty soon after that I was being recognized as "Hey, aren't you that doll girl?"! Haha! Eventually I was taking them out for shoots all over the city (I used to live in Chicago).

Sometimes people make weird comments, but most people seem to just be curious. But it is a little weird getting used to the attention you get when carrying a doll around. Having a doll with me makes me happy though, so I like taking them despite the attention. Now I like to take them out whenever I can, which is usually if there is a particular doll I want to photograph. And the odd day that I am not at work, I like to bring a doll for company.

While living in Las Vegas, I have taken dolls with me to different hotels with pretty gardens and things for photo backgrounds, or funny tourist spots. One lady commented that I shouldn't be touching the display in the Bellagio conservatory and I had to explain they were my personal dolls

More recently I went out to dinner with my mom, and the waitress was really enamored with my Apollonia, I offered her to hold her because she liked her so much. She was tickled by how the joints moved, and held her saying "pretty baby, happy baby" which was especially funny and cute because Apollonia is my poutiest saddest looking doll (she is a Unidoll Uh-21).

And some pictures... first is Jana (volks Nono) and Lilo (volks four sisters) at the famous Las Vegas sign.

Jana is totally forcing Lilo to do her signature "kitty ears" and Lilo isn't sure she gets it :sweat

And here is Apollonia, the "happy baby", pouting next to the "veggie happy roll" sign on our table. Apparently it was a very happy restaurant :XD:

    15. I actually took Calli out in public for the first time today. It wasn't too bad an experience, though I did feel a bit awkward/worried about people staring during some of the points where I was having to work a bit to get her to pose the way I wanted.
Luckily I live in a small town, and people mostly don't bother each other. Even though I was taking pictures on the town square which is like... the main part of town. I'm sure there were at least some people though that thought I was odd, wandering around the lawn of the town court house with a doll.
