1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Outing with Your Bjds - taking your BJDs out in public places

Sep 16, 2014

    1. It is definitely not a child's hobby! However, I would be careful taking the doll out when so many people are into this wrong idea. On other hand, the more we show our dollies, the more the others will be more aware of the other sides of the dolls, such as creating, rather than just children's play :)

    2. It would be wonderful to take my tiny delf dorothy to a Mal or Restaurant
*oh i really cant wait to see her
The only afraid is if people start to touch the doll without permission or touch the face...i think its rude...

    3. I took my doll to a small anime convention locally as his first outing. It was tons of fun, I got to meet some other people who had dolls and only had to field a few questions. It made me realize I am terrible at explaining bjd to people. Haha. I wasn't really concerned about taking him to the con because that's where I'd learned about bjds! There are plenty of people who bring them even just to sit with them at their artist tables. It was so nice. C:

    4. I haven't been brave enough to take Monty out anywhere yet. I obviously can because he is a tiny and would be really easy to transport. I'm trying to figure out how to modify my halloween outfit (rainbow fairy) so I can take him out on halloween. Of course, I really need to take him to a fabric shop because it would be easier to find fabric both in the right scale or that compliments his pink resin better if I have him with me.

    5. I'm afraid to take my dolls outside with me to take pictures in public because I'm afraid of what people will say, but on the other hand I would do it if my sister or someone was with me so I can block out other people...

    6. I often take my boy out to non-crounded places for photoshoots but recently, on the way home from a meet, I ended up walking right through the centre of town on a weekend with him > . < I didn't think about it until I actually got there (I'm so used to walking home that way) and I did get a LOT of strange looks XD He's only an MSD so 'd hate to see people's reactions to SDs. That said, that little accident has actually made me less afraid of talking him out to more busy places ^ - ^

    7. When I first got Nauticaa and I was heading home on the airplane I had her out and got many comments saying how beautiful she was. I also took her to my workplace for one day to sit at my desk and cheer me up. Since then though I haven't taken her out anywhere as I realised carrying her in my back pack is not a good idea! So I'm going to get a special case to keep her in for Christmas.

    8. Most of my earliest "doll outing" photos were taken on the Bruce Trail (a hiking trail that runs along the Niagara Escarpment in Southern Ontario) - it was close to where I was living at the time and was scenic. I never found other hikers to be thrown by it - but I think having a large camera just lends legitimacy to almost anything! ;)

It's actually been more than a year since I've taken a doll outside for photos (not since I moved, actually), so thanks for reminding me that it's worth doing! :)

    9. I'd be terrified of chipping the paint or getting fingerprints that will cause fading and discoloration...

    10. The first really public place I took one of my dolls out to was Anime Revolution in Vancouver.
It was fun, I met a few other BJD owners and one of them took a picture of Mia with their doll. :D
The only thing that made me rather nervous was when a homeless person was wandering around the convention center and tried to touch her without warning.
Needless to say, I flinched. xD He continued on after that so it wasn't too bad.
It probably wouldn't have been so bad in the first place if it hadn't startled me so badly but oh well. >.<

    11. At my first meet, we went to take pics in a park, it was pretty empty except for some teenage boys who were weirded out a bit but didn't bother us much. One if them had the guts toapproach us and ask what we were doing this for. Just for fun of course!

    12. Excited to be taking my girls out on my birthday for a picnic.
Yay! Love reading all of these, the love everyone has for their dolls

    13. Your husband is amazing for holding him for you! Your doll is so regal, I love it!

    14. I am going to be waiting for a while until I get some dolls of my own, but I know I will be taking them outside for nature photography. I like the idea of not having other people in the shots, so that way it looks like the doll is in its own world. You know what I mean?

I got to handle a BJD for the first time just this past week when my friend brought hers into our Metalsmithing class. They were nestled safely in her bag on the table, and she pulled out her Pukifee and some people were curious and came over to ask questions. One of our older classmates came over and just started immediately telling my friend how beautiful the doll was. It was awesome! Needless to say, my BJD love was cemented. :)

    15. The first time I took my dolls out was when I got my first boy and took him to my office. Everyone loved him. The good experience allowed me to feel better about taking my dolls out in public. I have a great time taking them out but they're SD sized so I don't get to take them out as often as I want to. I don't really worry about what others think of them because I have so many other weird hobbies someone's going to think I'm weird holding a doll or not. I just have fun and do my own thing.

    16. I'm much too shy to take my BJD outside.... I live in a really small town so if someone saw me with my doll I'd get really shy and probably never go outside with her again hahah.... maybe someday I'll take her out to the park, because not many people go down there. I'd love to get some outside pictures, I'm just very shy about being seen with something out of the ordinary heh

    17. I've only ever taken a couple of my dolls to conventions. I guess the general nerdiness of those occasions make me feel less weird compared to say my small town or somewhere like that where I would really stand out with my doll.

    18. I do take my dolls out around my apartment, though I try to find a spot with less passers by. People look but the ones who stop and talk to me have always been kind and positive. One elderly man was convinced my Soom Adamelli was representative of the Virgin Mary. I've been with friends several times to nearby parks and castles for dolly photo days too. Anyway though I stand out as a foreigner here, and I think they just take it in passing as foreigner shenanigans :)

    19. I have taken my dolls out in the garden before to photo, but wouldn't feel comfortable taking them out in public for fear of ridicule. My dolls are displayed in my bedroom and i love the hobby, but i don't feel the need to take them outside with me in public. I would feel uncomfortable doing so. I think its great if you have the confidence to do so though.
