1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Outing with Your Bjds - taking your BJDs out in public places

Sep 16, 2014

    1. I'm an introvert, I never took any of my dolls outside
I think it's a shame since other people seems to have so much fun when outing theur dolls ^^'

    2. I took some pictures of my precious girl on my college campus the other day. I was pleasantly surprised that no one stared or said anything. The only person who said anything about her was someone I knew and had talked to about it before. The only other person to come up to me was actually just asking if they could climb the tree that I was taking pictures with. They actually made the pictures better! I had brought her in the doll carrier I made from her shipping box, bubble wrap, fabric, and a belt-strap. Once I started taking pictures, I just carried her in my arms.

    3. I'm going to my first doll meet soon and it'll be the first time I take any of my dolls out into public. Kind of nervous, but it's always a big help for me to be around other people who are in the same situation, so we can be supportive of one another. :) I used to be waaay more scared/anxious about what people thought of me, but now I've gotten better about doing things without worrying about what others think, so hopefully I'll become more confident towards taking my dolls out too!

    4. I've taken lots of dolls out in public before (though not walking the streets with them like some of you do). I've taken them to multiple anime conventions, the park for pictures, and friends houses. Here is a picture of all the dolls that me and my friends set up for our BJD panel at a con in the end of September (that's me in the photo with the blond wig, I was in cosplay as Armin from SNK). It was loads of fun and we met a few new dolly friends doing it. I am also known for walking the convention hallways with a doll on my arm. It always puts a smile on my face when people ask about them and calls them pretty (especially if I did the faceup lol)

    5. I feel kinda weird about taking my bjd with me. I'm super worried about the sun, the dirt, about dropping her or people touching her. I just got her and I'm so protective it's silly.

    6. When I do actually go out, such as the mall, I love bringing one of my little buddies with me. I place them on my shoulder like a parrot, ha-ha! I don't really care what other people think; sometimes it's a conversation starter, but ultimately I like them just fine, and that's all that matters.

    7. I am planning on making a matching cosplay for myself and my doll to wear at a convention, it will be my first time trying her out to a outing, so Im looking forward to it

    8. I wish I could, cause the clothes for my doll still on making process.. lol I think people don't care what we do; they don't matter about it more than we think! But it is true for me that if someone see me and get curious, my face will be an apple since I am a quite shy person o///o...!

    9. I've taken dolls out in the past and would take them out again if I felt the need :) I've had a bus driver be mildly abusive to me as he made some weird assumption that I had something wrong with me when I got onto the bus holding a doll. He decided to speak to me in a condescendingly loud voice, so I responded with such and also a sarcastic smile and thank you. :D

    10. I never took my dolls out. I don't know why but I think I'm too shy for that..

    11. Sure, I take mine out and about! Not as much as before since the big guys are too heavy for me to hold due to health issues. My dolls have repeatedly been to:

      • doctors
      • dentists
      • grocery stores
      • airports
      • anime and writing cons
      • renaissance faires
      • restaurants
      • work
      • school
      • botanic gardens
      • Japanese fall festivals
      • department stores
      • craft stores
      • fabric stores
      • historical building parks
      • trips across the country (in cars and planes)
      • and lots of other places!

    12. I've taken one of my dolls to one con once XD I'm incredibly shy about taking them out in public with me because I'm pretty introverted. I'd probably be much more inclined to take them to places where there are other bjd owners present/ the next con I go to, simply because I'd get less looks for having a doll with me, probably.
I can't wait until I'm old and I don't care what people think, then my dolls will go everywhere with me haha!!

    13. I have not done it yet but want to do it soon. They are so darn heavy, but it will be fun.

    14. Having a camera and taking photos of them posing is a lot like taking photos of real models. People tend to either ignore me or come up and ask about them.

    15. im glad to see people who are getting positive feedback from people in public but to those who are scared and don't feel comfortable, it's fine, you feel that way for a reason, if you would like to conquer it don't go alone. Get a sibling or a close friend (who knows you own a bjd and that you love them dearly) to come along with you to conquer that little negative feeling inside. I don't have that many close friends in my country that would actually be there for me when i need to conquer it so i had to do it on my own.
People did stare people did laugh, but i didn't mind , in my country people's hobby is glare at people and see what they are doing so they can talk poop about them so i gave them something once in a while, not that they know my name anyway :) so no harm done.
My hobby scares them, although there has been few people commenting saying they are cute. My class mates for example did say that now that they know i collect them im more strange and wierder than before, but some admitted my chihiro as adorable nontheless. you see guys, those little positive feedbacks will give you strength to show the world what you own. Bjd hobby is amazing, i never tought i would sew clothes! or make furniture out of wood etc but i did.
Keep on loving your dolls and this hobby guys, im proud ^^

    16. I haven't taken my doll out yet, into town or into a place etc. If I was in a meet, I wouldn't mind because then I am with like-minded people and I will feel more comfortable but if I was alone, I will not take him out in public. I also think he's too delicate lol

    17. Fawn not so much, because I don't have a good carrier for her, but I almost always have a little one with me. You never know when a photo op will turn up. I got some great pics of Scaramouche in a straw maze this week when I went to look for grass seed at a garden center. (I didn't, however, find the grass seed.)

    18. I'm a bit sheepish when other people see me posing my dolls. That mixed with the hustle and bustle of the places I usually go in my time off sort make me nervous about taking them out.

I have only taken them to one convention for a meet up but I think that is as brave as I can go.

    19. Hehe im glad to hear more responses, again you shouldnt be scared, if people started to see and learn about bjd it would be better as then next time they see us then they wouldnt bother us one bit they'd be " oh look, its one of those people who collects them, stare for 1 minute to see and move forward" or so i hope that happens hahahahaha im a dreamer. i have never been on a meet up or doll convention as there isnt here, There is comic con but i dont think its apropriate to take my doll there as no one goes to see her.. :/ but to see comics and art haha

    20. I enjoy taking photos of my dolls outdoors, but I don't like having groups of people walking around me while I do it! My favorite places to go are the parks in my town. Unfortunately, I don't go as often as I used to.

The dolls look so beautiful outdoors, though.

I like taking a friend with me, so I feel safer paying attention to the dolls and the photos, without having to worry about what's going on around me.
