1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Outing with Your Bjds - taking your BJDs out in public places

Sep 16, 2014

    1. I took my girl to the park for a photoshoot the month after I got her. It was a sunny Saturday and lots of families were picnicking and children were playing. My heart was pounding at first but after a few minutes I got so absorbed in my photography I didn't notice them so much. I just took a deep breath and concentrated on getting Yoh in focus and taking lovely shots of her among the spring flowers :)

A few people stared as they went by but I tried to ignore it. The thing that annoyed me most wasn't even the attention; it was that I was worried my doll would faceplant and hurt her makeup xD (also at one point a strong breeze blew her hat away and I had to run across a field to chase it LOL)

    2. I don't think I could ever take my dolls outside for photos. It's bad enough having dolls as an adult, but it's worse when you're a boy. I can just imagine the host of lovely things people would say to me. I might take my cheese mouse out for photos when it arrives because it's small and inconspicuous but I don't think I could ever take my MSDs outside for fear of what other people would say (or do). I don't know any doll owners near me either, and none of my friends really "get" the hobby, so I don't have anyone I could go out and take photos with.

    3. While I'm still waiting for my first BJD to arrive the main reason I bought him was to take him to conventions. My husband and I only go to a couple a year so I told him we'll have to go to more of them so I can take my doll with me (which made him happy). But, I'm worried about getting laughed at, especially since I'm older. I only hope I don't back out of taking him. This is where I wish I had someone else who had one so they could take theirs too.

    4. If anyone asks, I say it's for a photography project, which it is. I'm doing a Doll a Day challenge on Flickr plus the blog (which I need to update badly!) That either gets them interested or shuts them up. Usually they're interested.

    5. The first time I took one of my dolls with me outdoors to take pictures was only a few weeks ago. I prefer to be alone when I take pictures but other people don't bother me. I only keep a close eye on stuff so nothing happens to my doll. When I took the pictures a few weeks ago some people walked by and they mostly looked curious :)

I sometimes bring my dolls along if people are interested in seeing them. I'm going to bring David (the doll in the picture below) to my model building friends this week to let them have a look at him.

    6. I've only taken my dolls outside for photos once and all the other times have been for meets. I love taking them to meets though~ sitting them with other dolls maybe start shipping them or forming a love triangle with others by accident lol

    7. I haven't taken any pictures from the times I've taken my doll with me, I'm waiting on getting a better camera for that. But I've taken him to college with me. A guy said something about him (many times actually) but I already knew the guy was a jerk so what he was saying didn't bug me much. I love my doll and if I want to take him with me every now and again then that's my choice. If it bugs people they can look away.

    8. While deception is always odious, you might consider going with a friend who will help you pose the dolls, etc., while you act like a semi-pro photographer. Having a few pieces of gear like a reflector or tripod and giving someone else directions should assure the rubes that you are stereotypically manly.

I've seen some good photoshoots done at indoor places that look like they might be outdoors, such as greenhouses and arboretums. The National Arboretum in Washington D.C. and Ginter Gardens in Richmond will allow doll photography as long as you're not obstructing other visitors or damaging plants.
Make friends with a business owner and ask if you could bring in a doll for photography at a time when business is light. There's a tiki bar I'd really love to do a shoot at!

    9. I haven't received my doll yet.
But i think i'd be afraid to bring my doll to crowded public places.
I'd rather bring him to the woods nearby my home.

But i honestly think i'll change my mind when i receive him! :)

    10. Nope, don't do it. Like to see other people do it though.

    11. It feels great to see that other people are still watching this thread and commenting on it and share their experience on taking their dolls out in public. I hope some people who don't do this, look at this thread get some motivation and tries it them selves. :)

    12. Getting my first BJD in July. However, I have other dolls that I sew for. I take them to parks and places with the scenery is great to take their photos in their new clothes. AND....Once I took a doll to Walmart to find a hat for my doll. I am past the point of caring what other people think of me. Those that know me understand....those that don't, well....no explanation is possible.

    13. I like taking my little one on trails for wildflower pictures. Not too many people around and if they are, they are moving quickly!

    14. I've had nothing but positive reactions to my Pukifees. Although I wonder how people would react to my DC Larry? *evil grin*

    15. Right? Who cares? Let them stare! Haha :)

    16. You both have excellent attitudes about this, I hope I can feel the same when I take my doll out. I'll try to think of both of your words of wisdom when I do! One of the things I can't stand about myself is I care what other people think, and I don't know why! I really wish I could change that way of thinking.

    17. I'd most likely only take mine to a meet up or convention. Then I would be more afraid of something happening during transportation. :o

    18. hmmm i am actually thinking of taking my doll along with my new one when she arrives on a first outing in UK ^^ take some photos of them somewhere in the forest, where i live (in a hotel) is surrounded by beauty and thus its much more nicer. although i am going to them to a park in town :)

    19. I daren't to go out with her, I have panic that something happens to them at the moment as far we've come it is the terrace and the garden
      :)

    20. I've taken my doll shopping with me to craft stores. I don't care what others think. It was fun for me! I once got caught talking to a doll while making sure she was okay after going through airport security. Some guy thought I was talking to him and he saw my doll in my hands and was like "OH" He shook his head but I think he was just surprised. I may have gave him a strange look though.
