Picking a partner for your doll

Dec 11, 2014

    1. I haven't found a S/O for my guy yet, but I know the basics of what I'm looking for. I would like her to be around his size, but not taller. I would like her to have an innocent aura just like he does. Also, if I'm browsing websites I'll try to picture each girl doll standing next to him, and if I don't like the way it looks, I simply don't pick that doll haha.

    2. None of my dolls have partners....poor things :( They are all different styles and sizes lol. If eventually I choose a partner I would probably go for the same company/aesthetics so that they look nice together :)

    3. Assuming that both dolls are representing characters that are involved with each other in their respective storyline: I try my best to find a sculpt that aesthetically matches their partner while also being true to the character itself. A challenge to be sure, but worth it if you happen to adore both of them.

    4. Well faeries like to...do polyamory... So Patrick and Sarah are a couple, but are both also with Syrinx and kind of with Syrinx's sister Triinu
Makemake is with Clover, Takine, Zoey, (later Lakumi, Ivy, Prudence), Clover and Takine are a couple, as well as with Vinayaka and Makemake...

    5. I've got a female doll right now that we have to keep away from the three male dolls that hang around, because two are taken by two of the other girl dolls there, and the third is gay and supposed to be taken as soon as my friend can afford his boyfriend. I constantly browse sights, looking for just the right male doll for her, and she is SO picky about it, to the point where I have to get him from the same company as her... And their choices are beautiful, but expensive. I think we've finally lit upon one she'll like, but I won't be able to get him for forever, since I'm going to be getting a limited edition doll soon... And she makes me feel guilty about it every time I see her sitting on the top shelf, staring remorsefully down at me.
It's difficult when you realise that some of your dolls truly need partners to be happy, I never expected it from Jess before, and it's really frustrating.

    6. I already know the sculpts that I want to be my dolls partners, but it took a while to go over so many websites :P

    7. well my picky boy has a crush on the new doll i got. same company, so maybe there is something to that.

    8. I have 2 msd girls who are supposed to be together. They are fussy though, somewhat of a love hate relationship. I guess the main thing is because they're about age 16ish and still developing their true sexuality. Plus relationships at age 16 tend to be love/hate. One of them is getting a new body though so it may help things.

I have a 70 cm guy who wants to be loved but is picky and refuses all the girls...

    9. I usually have the characters planned before choosing the doll to shell them in, so sometimes it results in weird combinations ^^;

For instance, my very tall and willowy DC Queena is the girlfriend of my very short, athletic MnF Chloe lol...they look funny next to each other but the height difference reflects how they'd look as actual people so I don't mind it at all~

    10. Like some of the other people on here, I already have stories and characters planned out. I've tried to find a sculpt that would suit a certain character and then whilst I wait I'm developing the character to be more interesting. Then when I get the ideas together, I can start choosing a partner for my boy.

Ive already began picking out my next doll, even though I haven't received my first yet! :doh

    11. Congrats on your first doll! DZ Carter's incredibly unique (a personal fave of mine)...but he's gonna be tough to match lol. Best of luck~

    12. :D this is an interesting doll topic.

Doll couples are hard. I want a boyfriend or girlfriend for my first doll super bad but for some reason everyone I stick her with doesn't click. Guess she's a strong independent doll who don't need a man...or GF. Others seem to gravitate toward each other. Three seem to be having a weird love triangle. Its weird how sometimes two dolls just look right together.

I guess I'll just let it happen as it happens. At least two of my dolls have a for sure mate.

    13. None of my girls have lovers. They are all faeries so they probably are too devious to settle down anyway. However my girlfriend and I kid that Meadowsweet and Olive are partners because they seem to click together. :)

    14. For me, I have characters that I want to buy dolls for. Some of these characters have partners. To match the character is important to me, but another important aspect is how well they look together if they're supposed to be a pair. Height, realism, head size, proportion; all these are factors in pairings to me.

It can make things complicated. I've shuffled my doll wish list hundreds of times over the years trying to get all the details hammered out. I spend a lot of time studying my candidates, trying to decide who best fits. Owner pics are a godsend! Especially if they have them next to dolls that I have so I can get an idea of suitability.

Owner pics usually tip the decision to keep or strike a doll from my list.

I agree with Czechmix, sometimes dolls will surprise you and just look right together. I sat Kaz next to Hannah one day and just liked the way they looked together, so they became a couple. Completely unexpected, but it is a fun challenge to take the unexpected and try to come up with ways to make it work in the story.

    15. My dolls don't all have a significant other, but they at least have a counterpart. A best friend who's from the same line of dolls. If I had unlimited supply of doll money, I'd totally be making different couples kiss! ^.^

    16. I like to crossover and make connections with my friend's dolls instead ^_^ It's really cute how we can make different stories when we meet up~~~

    17. My boy doesn't have a partner, but that might change someday. He's really specific, so I doubt it'll be anytime soon.

    18. I have three couples and they all have very different stories. I think the only thing in common with how they coupled up was that they are all from the same companies.

Kevin and Amadeo are two characters who are nutty in love with each other anyway. I originally had a different character in mind for Kevin's sculpt as he in no way reminded me of the character at all but the minute Amadeo came into the house he was sold. He kept leaning on him and making it very clear he wanted to be around this new guy. So after sticking a blonde wig on him and a mock faceup I ended throwing up my hands and letting them have their way. I had to mod Kevin alot to look like the character but now that they have been together so long it just seems perfect.

Grigoriy and Magnus on the other hand are still growing into their relationship. Grigory was my first guy and I set about trying to find him a partner right away. Company closings, discontinued sculpts and a picky doll made finding him his man almost impossible. I ended up having my husband pick the sculpt as it was his character to begin with. That resulted in a year of even MORE nitpicking over the look! My husband sure can be picky. But he finally came home and they seem to be working. Magnus dosn't have his faceup or wig finalized yet (picky husband) and Grigoriy seems a bit put off by it but very fond of the man sitting next to him after all. They arn't as clingy as the lovebirds but they are certainly happy.

The last couple is still in limbo. Lucie is already home and waiting very patiently for her husband Gabriel to show. Again husband's character so he picked the sculpt. Fast forward and her husband's head is part of a layaway order I'm in right now. He is supposed to be significantly taller then her but the sculpt in question is a bit of an extreme size jump and my husband dosn't like body sooooooooooo.... he is getting a different body that might take awhile to arrive. She hasn't seen him yet so hopefully they will work out.

    19. Sounds like Czechmix & I have had a similar experience. First, I didn't plan to have more than one doll...then over a couple of years several girl dolls found their way into the collection. A variety of kinds of girls, some being friends, some completely ignoring the others. A friend gave me a boy head & while hunting for his body, I ended up acquiring another boy head in need of a body plus falling in love with Chrom!! When Chrom was in production I thought he was a great excuse for getting a Supia Rosy & they'd make a cute couple. But, they arrived & were clearly siblings & he hooked up with one of the other girls. Totally surprised me!! Since then, one of those other heads became a whole guy who was immediately claimed by one of my girls. ANd the other fellow has been a steady bachelor. Meanwhile, that very first doll from long ago convinced me she needed a specific kind of guy & in this case the guy I bought for her worked out well. But trying to plan who's going to like who & how the story is going to proceed?!? I have to leave that up to the dolls to lead the way. ;0
