It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Planning your doll family? Did you have a plan? How did it work out?

Apr 22, 2010

    1. I always plan everything I do, so that includes my doll crew. Like many others I've seen here, I write, and the dolls I have/plan to buy are all characters from my novels. Personally, I need to do it this way, I can't click with a mold if I don't see one of my characters in it, no matter how beautiful they are. Which I think is lucky, otherwise there would be way too many dolls on my list, and it's large enough as it is :)

    2. Well I am waiting on my first doll to get here and to be honest when I was looking for her I didn't really think I was going to make a story for her, I was going to let her inspiration tell me the story. But then I decided to think of a name for her. Then I thought well maybe a story plot outline would be ok... Now she still isn't here and I have the main story line drawn out, and the main characters picked. I even know at least 3 other sculpts I will need to create my story. So my whole outlook changed in just a few months lol

    3. Personally, I started out not having a plan, but after I bought my first doll I started planning dolls around her. (love interest, someone she looks after, co-worker...) I don't really think there is a best way since people are different, it just depends on what you like doing best.

    4. I always wanted to have Notdoll Belladonna, Aletheia and Argeia - I could style them after the three brides of Dracula, they would sit somewhere in my room, in they white dresses and creep people out :') But then I fell in love with other dolls... lulz

    5. i love this topic! well, my doll family was planned way before i decided to even buy my first BJD, i always knew what they would become if i ever took that step lol. so from the moment i bought the first one i've kept doing my little research here and there to find the other members of the family, all characters from a book i've been writing. they are all a family in the book already, so all i have to do is find the right dolls to embody them :)

    6. I have a wishlist which I'm constantly adding to because I'm building a story up around the dolls based on characters that come into my head. I haven't even got one doll but I've listed several of my planned dolls in the order that I plan to order them and I know what options I'm wanting (like resin colour, faceups etc). I'm rather poor so I have a lot of time to plan and research while I'm saving. Plus I won't do layaway since I often have unexpected expenses. Names are always the hardest thing, I can never think of those without having whatever I'm naming in my hands (whether that be a pet or a doll).

    7. Hmm, all my Dolls are really just "sisters" to each other. When I get a new one they have a new sister to play with! ^^

    8. I see a doll I want and then I just go for it! They represent parts of me more than having their own individual personalities.

    9. I don't plan anything. I just wait until I feel the time is right or I find a sculpt that "speaks" to me. I currently only have one doll and might trade it in for the same doll in the SD size, but I'm not entirely certain. Then again, I haven't really been in the hobby long enough to have any "planned" dolls, bit that's just me.

    10. This is a very interesting Settings, because the aesthetic tendency will lead to selected doll looks has some similarity, it is very suitable for set to family, and is also very easy to fantasy the relationship between the dolls

    11. I don't really "plan" my doll family. I have a wish list but it is fairly general, and always changing. When I add a new member to the family, they are usually somewhat impulsive purchases because I spot a doll with a beautiful face, good deal, that perfectly represents a character I've had in mind, etc. The dolls tend to come first and then the personality develops so I don't necessarily always have characters waiting to be realized in doll form.

    12. My plan is that I have no plan. I tend to be something of an impulse buyer when it comes to dolls, though I'm trying to curb that now that my interests have started turning to some of the more expensive ones.

Generally I don't have set identities for any of my dolls until after they're home and I've had a chance to see what wigs, outfits, etc. work best on them. I prefer to let them tell me who they are. And sometimes they end up changing; my BBB Isabella Viola went through two name changes and one or two wig changes before her identity settled.

    13. well i have 2 ways of planing my doll family.
sometimes i make a list and pick out sculpts i like and pair them together with another as a couple/sibling.
size isn't really a factor for me.
other times i just pick out a sculpt that has a certain look i would picture for it fantasy wise.
(but mostly i just pick sculpts i'm super fond of ^w^)

    14. Well my next doll is to be a spouse for me sweet angel, when i see the perfect one for her- I will get it :) male or female.. it will let me know

    15. Before I actually owned one I planned out my doll family with all the details, their skin color, their personalities, age, relations, EVERYTHING! But when I actually came around to owning a couple things made it difficult to stick with my plans.

Sometimes I can't find the right mold for who I have in mind or I see a doll I reallllly like and I "add" them to my dolly fam but everything would be mixed up. Plus, I have been Goldilocking my dolls :sweat Jumping from size to size trying to find that perfect one.

    16. I plan it all out based on significant characters in my novels. Sometimes, it changes when I grow fond of a new character or feel that this specific character plays a vital role.

    17. I usually try to plan a doll before buying it, but it also usually ends up planning all over again when the doll is there XD cus you don't really know how your doll will be until you have it in your arms

    18. I don't really plan my doll family... I feel as if I pick out the dolls first, I won't bond with them as much. The usual thing for me is if I see a doll that I like, I stick to it. I usually make up the character after. Sounds impulsive, but, hey, I'm an impulsive person.

    19. I have planned characters that I will find dolls to fit and I have specific dolls that I want. So I plan my family in a couple of ways. However, it sort of changes when I see a doll that I like that is cheap. I don't think that there is a best way to do it though. I think it comes down to personal preference.

    20. I didn't stick with my first plan-- everything kind of changed when I saw Vince's sculpt, and I still haven't bought the first doll I planned to get, and am not sure now if/when I will (though I still think it's a lovely doll).

My current plans I haven't been able to stick with just because other things have come up to take the money, which combined with how busy I am, have taken me away from being active in the hobby in general. But, I hope that I can slowly get back on track to saving for my first lady/SD, and her 'family'.
