Playing Favorites

I definitely play favorites. I have my one true favorite, Gerda, who gets more attention and gets brought to meet-ups more often than the rest.
But I also have temporary favorites, who I like more in a period of time. Then they get showered in new outfits, photo shoots and meet-ups.
I even have some dolls I admit, I'm not that fond of. I like them, but they never get to be the favorite. I don't mind it. For my collection it feels natural.

 

I always say that Riddick is my favorite - he's the first one, and is just special to me. He, Crow and Finn are the core of the group, everyone else kind of revolves around their story.

That said, there is sometimes a "favorite of the day", which often depends on what's going on. Riddick and Crow have their looks down and faceups done, so they don't necessarily get the most attention. Finn's easy to photograph, especially on her own (and people seem to like her), so I tend to grab her if I'm running out quick to take photos. Whoever is in process of getting faceupped or getting new stuff to complete their look is usually a temporary favorite. The newest character or doll is usually favorite for a while. Sapphy and Sprocket aren't really favorites, but they have the most stuff and I'm always looking for new clothes and things for them, so they get played with a lot. My favorites for going somewhere that I'm worried about potential damage are Kestrel, Sabrina or maybe Sapphy - all have faceups by me, they're not my most expensive (Sapphy and Sabrina I think were my cheapest), they're not unusual resin colors, they're not limited, and I like the way they look - basically they're fixable and/or replaceable! For meetups I try to vary who I take, but it's usually whoever has the newest faceup or hasn't been in a while, or whoever fits the mood of wherever we're going. So I have different favorites at different times for different reasons or purposes, I guess.

 

I only have one doll but I'm sure when I get others that Nadeko (my first and currently only doll) will always be the favorite.
this isn't the only reason that I have just one doll (plenty of other things prevented my plans for a second doll) but sometimes I think about it and do feel bad that either I won't pay enough attention to my first doll with a new doll

 

While I try not to play favorites with people, I definitely play favorites with my dolls. I don't see anything wrong with that. It isn't like you're being unfair or can hurt their feelings. It is what it is.

There's always going to be one that is "more special" to you; either your grail doll, or the first one you've ever bought, or the one that seems to look good in everything, or the one that has a face the camera can't get enough of.

 

I pay attention to whomever I'm most into at the moment. This changes from day to day, or week to week, or month to month-- sometimes I just spend months being infatuated with one doll or the other. Everybody gets loved in their own time. There are some I keep returning to more often than others. But I don't really have favorites, because every one of them is my favorite for some uniquely powerful reason (I could never decide on just one!).

Not all dolls give off the "pick me up and play with me" vibe at all, in the first place... in fact, my AngelRegion Present Ren gives off distinct "go away and leave me alone" vibes. He is incredibly beautiful and I love to dress him up and photograph him, but this doesn't happen very often, because he seems to be such a self-contained unit who's happiest being left alone, sitting there in his armchair, looking perfect and unapproachable. His previous owner said exacty the same thing about him. ^^ Some dolls are just plain standoffish.

 

My dolls usually take turns. Sometimes I'm head over heels with one dolls and then a month later, it someone else who inspires me.

I've got to say though that if I had to decide which dolls are my favorite, Remo (Williams) and Cicero (SwD Lucas) are the first that come to mind. That's because they are brothers and I like their characters so much.

 

I tend to carry Damian (60cm & my first bjd) around with me a lot more than any of the others. That being said I love my Ringdoll boys but as they are pretty big (72+cm) and wear very elaborate outfits that are easy to damage I hold them less. In that sense I do favor Damian

 

I definitely play favourites, I don't even try to hide it. Philippe is my first bjd and I consider him to be the patriarch of my collection, as he always will be. He gets first dibs on when I decide to buy new doll things(he must have like....3 or 4 wigs and a bagful of eyes). He's very special to me on so many levels, even before I put him into a doll, so it's not really a surprise that I favor him so much. That said, I've been working on showing some attention to my other boy...x.x though it is hard sometimes.

 

I have a hard time picking a favorite at any given time. My favorite thing about the hobby is posing and interaction is a bit of a must for me. My family is small and it's easy to play with all of them at once, pose them then hanging out, having conversations, petty fights, apologies, and then hanging out again. lol.

 

I play favorites. It's not like the dolls' feelings are going to be hurt by it. But I do like all my dolls, just some more than others.
