Pros and Cons of Soom Mecha Angels

Aug 26, 2008

    1. so they're the same size? well, i think i may be saving up for some hands for my saiph after all ^^

    2. Darkmothflame, you might wanna mod em a little bit. They look pretty mannish. Add a bit of nail length or something. :)

Littlepinkfairy, I'd suggest sueding them at the neck and knees. They send you these little pegs that go in the hip joint to make them hold poses there so you probably don't want to cover that up. Just from the sheer weight of the doll, their knees can sometimes do weird things.

    3. oh, i plan on slimming them down a touch an lengthening the nails - i just wanted to be sure they would fit and not look overly huge first though ^^

    4. Ok, since I'm still abit new to terms like re-stringing and sueding, what does those terms actually mean? o,0

    5. Buff: in your picture, who is that standing next to your MA?

    6. Just got my Sabik. Not sure yet about posability. Merely unpacked him so far. I noticed that the cream white is close, a littler lighter then, but do-able match with unidoll normal skin. The unidoll real skin hands may work for Sabik. Look bigger then Sabiks. Unidoll sells the hands seperately. My unidoll Real Rio is "normal" skin, btw. As I said I just got him so will be checking if the hands will work with. Wish Luts sold SSD feet seperately and in white. I'd like to try the feet.

    7. Since those terms aren't something exclusive to Mecha Angels, take yourself over to the Customizing subforum and check out the Sticky section there. You'll find your answers! These are things 99% of BJD owners need to get familar with and it's too much to go into here. :)

    8. That is a SOOM Vega head on a male Dollzone 70cm body...and he's also wearing a bit of a heel. Also known as 'Montanio' around this house. :)

To accomplish being able to cram into those heeled boots, I had to remove his dollzone male feet and instead put on the girl dollzone feet. I'm honestly not sure if he can stand on his own anymore. Maybe barely. lol. Ahhhh the things we do for the sake of fashion! Or in this case...for dolls that are just plain divas.

    9. I sueded his ankles, wrists, hips (I don't use the hip pegs), shoulders, top of his chest and neck

didn't bother with the elbows because they were too fiddly, and didn't bother with the knees because they lock into position

having said that I tried sueding him with silicone sheet and the glue doesn't like sticking to the sillicone for more than a fortnight :x so he is mostly just er... glue sueded  until I can properly hot glue sued him

but as for where I'd recommend sueding him, I'd say ankles are the main area the other areas really depend on person prefrence although unless you mod him to slouch like I did sueding his chest peice is pretty much pointless

    10. Does anyone know if the Mecha Angels all have the same body, or if they are actually different?

I'm getting a Sabik because he's my favorite, but I've always loved the pics of Rex's neck that I've seen, and I'm starting to wonder if they're different?

    11. @Candygear, I think all they changed was the arm-size, between the old MA bodies & the newer ones...? I have the merman Vega, and I believe his arms are supposed to pass for Muscular. He still looks pretty twiggy to me-- but yet those arms are actually bigger than those of the old Sabik & Corvi. I don't think they changed the neck or the chest.

@Idrisfynn, Soom also forgot to send the hip-pegs with my fullset, too! I wrote & asked if I could buy them separately, and they just went ahead & sent them to me right away. (they even sent the right color.)

Pros and cons, well, if you're not luggage-friendly (or if you're small), then I guess you'd find the size a 'con'. He's an armful. But pretty much anyone would agree that the body is a big 'pro', with its bodacious musculature. The elegant posture and elegant faces, another Pro. The good solid authority with which they sit in your arms, I think Pro. Some say the legs are just too too skinny; I would agree if my own Mecha Angel wore pants, but he doesn't, because he's a merman. ><> What really blows my mind is that the Mecha Angel women would beat the men in a fair wrestling match! Big, big, strong legs, compared to the men. Bigger hands. Heavier over all. Those girls impress the hell out of me.

I just find him difficult to store, at home!... No shelves/tables big enough. So Lalyraa lives on the couch. He doesn't wear clothes, and he never has to stand up, so he's mostly decorative. I've never bothered to tighten or suede him. He arrived strung very very floppy, but I suspect they did that to prevent damage to his fancy blushing. If I ever do want to stand him up, I put big boots on his tiny feet. Those combat-boots Soom sells make a wonderful wide base for him to stand on.

PS. @ Buff, kudos to you for such an amazing Frankenstein-inspiration job on that hybrid of yours-- a male Vega Soom/Dollshe crossbreed with female Dollzone feet. :whee: AND fab shoe sense!

    12. I find Sabik to be rather skinny. But will work quite well for a Knight since he IS skinny and a lot of padding is required for one. My hope is Vega is a bit more solid. If she is then will probably get a second one in Normal skin. Not right away but eventually. Will be selling off a couple of my other dolls to make room. They do take up a lot!

    13. I just got my Sabik home.
Pro: His sculpt is pure love, enough said. The mecha angels have such strong mature faces its intense!
My super gem jointed hands fits him too, so that means I can share between them (its a pro to me). Sexiest chest ever.
Cons: So incredibly floppy from the waist down if I do nothing than tighten his strings. He's top heavy I can tell you that. I'll hot glue suede him later on.

Just asking Sabik owners particularly, are his ears supposed to be thin - as in you can see the light coming from behind his ears? It just looks so fragile, I'm afraid a simple tap with my nail will puncture a hole through his ears.

    14. My Corvi has the same thing. I've had him for almost a year and I haven't had any problems with them. I wouldn't try to give him an ear piercing there, I think that might shatter the thin resin, but I don't think you could break through it accidentally.

    15. Cons: The arms are a little thin but my Sabik (Heat) is from the very first batch so I recently ordered him the larger arms.

Hands are a little small since he has the same hands as the Super Gem so I just put the jointed hands on him, same thing though, they are rather small as I like larger hands XD!

The feet, Heat's foot broke cos the hook is made of resin but I ordered him some new feet while I fixed the old ones with epoxy. I think his week ankles are what makes him hard to stand.

The floppiness I can deal with cos I have an armature in him and he is hot glued and wired so he does not do that anymore.

Pros: One of the most beautiful sculpts I have ever seen to this day on a doll, don't tell my other dolls but Heat is my love. The size NEVER once bothered me, in fact I like it very much! makes him seem more special.

He has the best chest I have seen on any sculpt rivaling that of the SD17 chest XD!

I would get another MA if I had the space in a heart beat.

    16. Well I quite like my Sabik now. Just shorten his neck a tad bit and he will be fine. The resin is a nice match for unidoll. I was changing my unidoll Rio's hands to Archer hands and found I didn't have the ball part for them. I'd already taken the default off and checked Sabik's hands and they work on Rio and Rio's hands which are much larger work beautifully on Sabik. Same with feet! Makes such a difference on Sabik and Sabiks are in scale for Rio so!!!! Unidoll sells hands but not sure if they sell the ball part. I bought the spare hands in US so no idea if they come with from Unidoll...

Just changing the hands and feet makes such a difference I am amazed!

    17. @ Sdink, what do you mean by an armature? Did you do something more than wiring him?

My Sabik should finally be home in about two weeks!

    18. Oh man, Heat is stiff as a board now....lol I made a wire armature and doubled it and ran it through his body and I also tightened his stringing sooo tight that it was hard to get his head on  I also used a High Temp glue gun and hot glue suede him in certain joints ie: shoulders, waist, thigh and ankles, the MA's have sorta weak ankles so I glued the foot to the round ankle joint and he is much sturdier now!

He can pose really good now and stand all on his own with no problem!

    19. I love Sabik's face. His body is ok if you change hands and feet. I have put his head on the Luts Super Senior Delf body and it's amazing how good he looks!!! Just need to blush it a little and it will be fine! (Sabik is CW)

I'm not sure if I will keep the Mecha Angel body though. I had started chain mail for it but now....

I just found out my Vega is on her way! I can't wait to get her! I'm hoping she isn't going to be a string bean. Doesn't look it from her pictures. Well maybe a little but I figure shorten her neck and sand the torso and get rid of the thunder thighs and she will be a dream to design for. At least I'm hoping! I've always wanted a big lady doll to design and sew for. One who doesn't have plastic skin and rooted hair and...well, all the reasons people like BJD's.

    20. My Sabik has trouble standing too, and since I'm too lazy to properly suede him I just bought him a fairly cheap doll stand from Dollmore. It's this one. I would suggest joining a group order to save on shipping. They run Dollmore ones pretty much all the time in the Group Orders section of the Marketplace, just find one that's open and join. I hope that helps!
