1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. When I was expecting a doll I had 3 names that I liked. When I got the doll in my hand, I knew that her name is Viviana :)

    2. Coming up with good names is a lot of fun. ^^
I "get to know them" first and decide on a fitting name after some time. That is also why I never changed a name, I take so long finding a good one, that I always stick with it. ^^
      Most of my dolls don't have family names. I usually just can't seem to find a suitable one or don't bother in the first place. ^^;

    3. My first doll was a floating head for a while, and I called her Laika Floating Head. Now she has a body, but that surname has stuck- though sometimes I refer to my other Laika (I have two with the same name who share a body it's complicated) as Laika Floating Head when she isn't on the body. It really depends.

    4. I tried to found a name before I get my doll, and actually I kinda think it doesn't suit him that much... xD
I think the better is to make a list of name you like and then you get the doll, pick the name that suits him/her the most ?
Well I'm really bad at choosing a name 8'D

    5. Nadine means "new hope" I named my first doll that because she represents my new hope for life and joining this hobby. I'm hoping that this hobby will bring new beautiful things into my life.

    6. I usually decide the name after I got the doll and will try to keep consistency in the names of my doll family. (e.g. all Jap-name, all related to flowers, etc)

    7. I'm HORRIBLE with names! BUt I have a good friend who can think of names super quick. I sent him a picture of my girl and he came up with her name in a matter of seconds and it just stuck xD Cassandria, or Cass/Cassie for short!

    8. I agree with NinaPun. Make a list and go from there. I also narrow it down by looking into kanji readings/meaning. But oh man, my guy has had 5-6 names in only a year. *_* Though going lists of characters from my favourite series and staring at their names usually works wonders.

    9. My sweet grandmother helped me with her name. :fangirl:

    10. I wait until have a doll in my arms and ask them what their name is.
Being just days after I'd been to the Babymetal concert my first asked to be called Su (after Su-Metal).
My girlfriend said "Nande?" (asking "why?") and Su looked appreciative.
So my first doll's name is Su-Nande.

    11. My first doll didn't have a name for the first month I got her since I found it hard to stick with a name.
I actually named her after seeing a name on youtube.
So my first doll is called Kseniya Brooke but I occasionally call her Darae(her sculpt).
As for my other doll, I typed "Russian names" in Google and called her Vera Brooke and now she's stuck with it.

    12. For my first doll, who will be arriving in a few weeks, I struggled a bit with her name.
Mainly because I write my own mangas so a lot of names that I like Have already been taken.
I wanted an "A" Name, but an older one that was pretty but would fit my character's adventitious personality.

Normally I take names from history, literature, nature, folklore..etc. I wanted something with a reputation or meaning behind it.

I decided on "Ariadne" For her first name. In Cretan Greek mythology Ariadne was the daughter of king Minos. She helped Theseus Navigate to Minotaur's labyrinth.

This fit my character and her story well.

Naming can be tricky but I always try to think it through and do a little research.

    13. Well, it sort of just came to me the moment I looked at the BJD I wanted. He looked like an "Ayden". My favourite gaming character is also called "Aiden" pronounced "eye-den" however, I changed it a bit to sound like 'Ay-den' and I liked spelling it that way because it's different and that's where his name came from.

    14. I very much wanted my doll to have a Nordic name since I am OBSESSED with Scandinavian/Nordic culture. So, I did probably the worst thing you could do an decided to pull names from Skyim . I remember seeing the name Anneke (pronounced like Monica, but with the "M") in the game, a name I recognized since it's also the name of a singer that did a duet with a favorite band of mine. I thought it was unique and just beautiful, so I decided to use it! Later, I realized it was not Nordic, but Dutch. Whoops! But I was too attached to it by then.

I don't know if you are still looking for a name, but if there is a certain country or culture that appeals to you, you can go to websites like behindthename.com and find lists of names from certain countries as well as myths.

    15. Actually for names I look at the doll and look on a name page I used to name my Sims XD sometimes I give them names with special meaning and also as Anime/Manga Fan I give them mostly a asian name. ;)

    16. I tend to think of their image and come up with a suitable name for them :3
Lots of times I'd google some names that would have a certain meaning, make a list of possible names and finally pick the one that suits the doll best xD

    17. i pick up names from characters in movies.

    18. Maybe find the ethnicity of their sculpt name or decide an ethnicity for them and give them a name from that specific ethnicity.

    19. With all my "planned" dolls, I know their name before I even start looking for a sculpt, because I already have an existing character in my head I'm looking to make into doll form.

With unplanned purchases, I just let them speak to me, and they tell me their name. My first doll, Absinthe, had told me his name and his story by the end of the day that I bought him on. I have a Doll Chateau Russell and Ada on layaway right now, they are also unplanned purchases, but I don't expect them to give me their names until their modifications are complete. If they tell me before then, I think I will be very surprised!

    20. I only have one doll, but I picked her name because I think it's pretty and I liked the meaning.
I named her Layla because she has black hair and her style is quite gothic, and Layla means 'dark beauty' or 'dark haired beauty'.
I've got a list of names I like, so when I get another dolly in the future, I'll probably pick one of those. I like to think of one that will go with their appearance/style or their personality. :)
