Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. After I got my first doll I played with her, tried different outfits, wigs.....then the name Piper came to me. She looked like a Piper plus I can feel what kind of personality she would have along with dress style.

    2. My second doll is still with her given name.....no other names have come to me but she does her own personality and dress ;)

    3. My first doll I named soon after I opened her, I have a thing about japanese names (even my little girl has a japanese name lol) and I really want another little girl but medical complications mean it probably won't happen and a name I love Ayumi I shortened to Yumi (just incase, might be weird having a doll and a baby with the same name lol).

My second doll was much harder, I had her for about a week or so before she had a name, it just came to me...Misa, my 3rd doll again I waited until I had him before I thought about a name and again the name Kiryu just came to me. I have 2 more dolls that are for my birthday (from my husband) that I'm not allowed to see (the torture, they are in the next room!) I've seen a few pictures of them but it's never the same as when they are right in front of you, one of them I am 99% sure I'm going to call Toshi (unless he really doesn't suit it) the other is nameless until I see him.

    4. I got the name Delilah from the song "Hey There Delilah" by the Plain White T's years ago. It always sort of stuck in my head, and so when I was deciding on a name for my girl it's what I decided on. It just seemed like a pretty, girly, name that fit well with her personality, so I stuck with it.

    5. My husband never lets me name any of the pets after Star Wars characters. Even though my boy doesn't look like Luke Skywalker, he does have a Luke/Lucas look about him. So, I named him Lucas and cal him Luke for short. :) All of my dols will probably have names my husband won't let me name pets, lol. Darn marriage for making you compromise! (I did get a BSG name for my newest dog.) :)

    6. I did what I always do when I need a name, go on a website dedicated to names and pick some that I like haha I try to pick ones that suit the doll and sound natural to say. If I don't feel like it's right, I won't use it! :)

    7. My first girl's name was originally Zila--I had gotten it from a naming site and it means Shadow. But after 3 years of owning her and barely being able to remember that name, I took that as a sign that she needed a new name that more resembled her. I took to baby naming sites and one name on the sidelines caught my eye. I looked at other names but kept gravitating back to that one, and that's how Zila became Xylia. The two are actually pretty similar, heh.

Zahmat got her name from the same site I found Zila. It means trouble, and since that's what she is, it just clicked.

The first song I heard after I received Jei Reo's head was by REO Speedwagon, so I decided to keep it. But every time I spoke to him, I kept calling him Jay for some reason, so I just incorporated it into his name.

Julius was originally named Julien. I received him secondhand off the market, and since I hadn't thought up a name for him his previous owner suggested I keep the same name. I had no problem with that, but as I got to know him more, he felt less and less like a Julien and more like a Julius (That and Julian/Julien has to be one of the most popular doll names on this forum. The number of hits that pop up on the Search is astounding!) Wanting to keep the memory of his previous owner with him since I wouldn't have him without them, I made it into his middle name. His full name is Julius Julien King.

Those are all the dolls I own, but I'm planning on getting another girl in the distant future who I'll name Charlesette. I've never heard that name used before and I'm excited about having Charlie and Julie together.

    8. It was kind of funny naming my first doll. While I was waiting for him I did all this name research on baby name sites, and planned out this whole character named Hevel. But then the moment I saw his face in person I had this immediate reaction of "Your name is Wally and you are not the person I thought you were" lol

I have another character I hope to shell in doll form named Amelia Snipe, who studies cryptozoology. Her last name is a reference to snipe hunting. I like putting jokes into my characters’ names when I can get away with it. Usually at their expense haha

    9. Favorite actress, Audrey. Some just seemed to fit like Pearl, Kit and Kat. Seems like I had it as soon as I saw them. harleyfae

    10. I named Elise after a car that I would love to own, the Lotus Elise. I got the name Yumi from one of the characters from Chobits. My next 2 are being named after characters from Sailor Moon, Serena & Mina. So I just go for names from my favourite shows or things :)

    11. Baby names websites are my inspiration sources. I randomly pick a letter and browse through the names under that letter. Well, I just follow my heart to pick the name that I think is suitable for my doll. Sometimes they can be rarely used names and sometime they can have common names~
For my dolls, their family name is Rozene but I call them by their first name.

    12. My little Lati Miel is named Primrose. I loved her for ages from a friend's photostream and named her that long before my friend sold her to me. (I think she'd be a little weirded out if she knew i had called her doll a different name even then lol!)
Everyone thinks it was from The Hunger Games, but I've just always loved that name for a little flower fairy :)

    13. I never rename my dolls, but use the company ones they came with. I was never good at naming things, plus I post a lot of photos in my Blog, and I'd have to put their company names in brackets afterwards anyways, so what's the point? That being said, I did rename two dolls - my second Narae became Aeran (Narae more or less backwards), and my Limhwa Mono definitely needed a new name, because "Mono" just wasn't going to cut it. He became 'Adrian", named after the character (art doll) whose costume I altered for him to wear.

    14. I was watching the (soccer) World Cup and during a game which Holland were in, I kept hearing the commentator saying a player's name, Arjen Robben over and over. The surname Robin or variation of sounded right. So when my doll arrived a day or two later, I named him Robyn and it suits him.

    15. Lillith told me her name even before I bought her. Mikail was named by my mom, as my dad got to name Achmed. Jessie and Keith just looked like their names when I opened the boxes. Ramsay was originally supposed to be a Pharaoh so he's named after Ramsses the Great. Ysandre's name I got from a book series that I love and it seemed to suit her, especially since the boy she goes with is Tristan (I didn't want to name her Isolde and go totally mythology!). The friend who did Loki's faceup said she looked like a troublemaker so Loki she became.

So the short answer is, there's no rhyme or reason to my naming. Mostly, I let the doll tell me - there's one on the marketplace who's already told me who she is so I'm fighting the urge to hit that "buy" button.... grrr.

    16. Usually, my dolls just tell me their names. I don't usually have characters in mind for them -- they're just pretty dolls -- so I just wait until I find a name that really suits them. :)

    17. I quite don't know how I found her name, maybe because of her green skin... I called her Helleboria, this is my favorite flower and some are green too so... Nothing more really.

    18. My dolls are named and modeled after my favorite characters. I have Lilli and Raz from psyconauts and now I'm making the rest my vision of mythical people. Right now I'm working on a vision for Atlas from greek mythology.

Sometimes themes can help you come up with names.

    19. My only doll is named Avana it means beautiful flower. She is a nature fairy so I wanted a natureish name for her.

    20. Let's see. One is named after a character in a book (Locke), another one after a character in a game (Maze) and Rain was named after one of my sims characters. Only using the first names though.
Van and Izrail are shelled O.C's, so they already had a name. And Van is actually an abbreviation of a much longer name, but it suits him better. The rest of the names just came to me I guess. Usually I pick them up from reading, tv, naming sites, etc....
