Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. Same place I looked for my two sons - a baby name book. :D I named my LS Michelle doll Madeline. I'm still trying to get used to the name.

    2. Internet is my first stop.
      Here are my reasons lol.
      Aeryn - I love Farscape
Brynn - this one was on a whim choice i liked the sound of it. (meaning: of the hill)
Avery - meaning: rules with elf wisdom. He got his name because he will be paired up with an elf female.
Kenna - meaning: born of fire My A-S aries baby!!

    3. When I'm looking for a name for a doll, I usually try to figure out what his/her character profile is going to be and work backwards from there. I start off with the dolls physical appearance and then figure out their ethnicity and write up a back-story for them. Then I go to baby name sites and look up names from the specific culture that my character is from :) Making the character before coming up with the name is very important for me, as I find that once I have their character profile, choosing a name is easy peasy cause I just look for something that will fit with the character.

    4. Cecelia (Cissy for short) means 'blind', which is kind of an awesome duel metaphor... Blindness as in being unable to see things - mainly herself - for what they actually are... and also losing her actual eyes... er, multiple times.....

My new guy I'm not sure about yet. I might call him Yune (like 'rune'), derived from the first syllable of 'unicorn' (he's a unicorn shapeshifter). I'm also considering Aster, meaning 'star'... maybe he is good at divination or some such thing (obviously he's magical)...

Names are pretty important to me. I try to not just go with the first thing I think of (always gotta be careful not to let 'temp' names stick, lol x-x)... I like to pick names with meaning or metaphor attached to them whenever I can - though I will sometimes compromise on that, if I find something that I just plain old like the sound of.

    5. I ordered an RS Mei, and first looked up online names based on Tolkien Elvish languages. Then I looked up Gaelic names since they can be so exotic and lovely. I chose the Gaelic name "Aoife" (Ee-fah) meaning "beautiful, radiant, joyful." Perfect! :)

    6. My darling Alessa is a vampire so I wanted a darker yet feminine name for her. As I was waiting for her arrival one month into it I was watching scary movies. I love silent hill and every time they said Alessa I thought of my darling. For a while her name was Lydia but I couldnt do it anymore and changed it along with her whole look.

Now my incoming boy is Xensor (Cen-sor). I think it really unique and interesting. Hes a warlock but he wasnt born one so I didnt want his name to be heavily dark or to light that he was too human. Naming him Luke or Charlie was not gonna cut it neither was vlad or damain. I'm saving for him now maybe once he arrives I will change my name. Not sure yet.

    7. I had the name for my ocs already, but I name
other things like I name my pets.

Throw names and words at it until something seems to stick.

    8. Ahahah. D:

I didn't wait for my doll to "tell me his name". To tell the truth, I was never much concerned about the name, my story is simple - I just chose the name of a man I admire. And he doesn't seem to have a problem with that. ^^ Actually, I think it fits him pretty well, although I still call him by a nickname, which awfuly stuck to him, uh. (°ヘ°)''

    9. Whenever I have a character I usually just look at them and think about their personality and appearance and usually the first name that comes to mind is the one I go with.
It's kind of fun, actually. It's like they assume their own identity~

    10. My first doll is called Pandora. After one of my favorite mythic stories (pandora's box). Her full name was actually Pandora Lorelei. But it just changed to Pandora. (now my two other favorite mythic stories are still free to use ^__^ Lorelei and Medusa).
My second doll, a boy, is called after one of my favorite rpg characters Valentine. A shy yet cute boy.
I guess I just call my dolls after my favorite stories :XD:

    11. I love names and naming my dolls seems to bring them to life. Sometimes I find a name I really like right away and other times it takes me a while. My little elf got the name Sylvy right away. My new one doesn't have a name yet. In my mind her mold name has quotes around it, lol--WE know that's not going to be her name, lol.

    12. My Dolls name is Mai Milou: first i like the sound of it^^....second it has different meanings to me: Mai is the german word for may, and my girl arrived in may, Mai also means dancing in japanese and like a feather, wich i really like, and Mai celebrates names day on my birthday^^....and milou means snowy...so cause of her light skincolor i think it fits very well^^

    13. I'm waiting on my first doll and I decided her name based on one of my original characters. I honestly don't make many, or like oc's too much, and this character is an odd one, but I just loved her design so I thought, why not make my doll into her? Her name is Victoria (cliche doll name I'm sure haha) but Tori for short ;)

    14. I had a character in mind before my first doll arrived. It was pure chance that the idea fit him, but it fits him well :) My second one (just a head for now) chose a name. As stupidly simple as it sounds, it was almost as if she said "I'm just a head and don't have a name, I'm just yours" so Mai it is. The third, which I just paid for, was another that I already had a character in mind.

    15. Some of my dolls their names came spontaniously, some came after a very long time. I must say I had most of the names allready before my dolls arrived. And I have the trend to name my dolls related to an element they represent. Finding names for them was a bit easier since I only had a small amount of names to pick from. One doll did change her name upon arrival though, since I found a better fitting one once I saw her.

Honestly, this works really well too ^-^ (did this for two of my dolls)

    16. My doll's name is Yuzuru and his nickname is Kuromu (Chrome) because it a part of his back story.
But for his real name I just looked for good Japanese names on the internet.
When Google Chrome became mainstream, I didn't want to call my doll Chrome anymore, now its Yuzu

    17. I wasn't sure what to name my first doll, but when he arrived and I was taking him out of his box, the radio was on, and the DJ was talking about wolves. So, I decided his formal name would mean wolf, and he became Lupin Joseph Clyde, though I mostly referred to him as Jay. Any of the dolls I planned after him that went along with his story also had a first name with a meaning tied to wolves. I've since sold that doll, but the majority of my dolls still have wolf names.

More recently my dolls have been based on preexisting characters, whose names just kind of came to me. The one was instantaneous (Margo!) but the other took some feeling around. My little Chiwoo was like that, too, but eventually "Angie" just stuck and he merged into a young version of my big Chiwoo anyway.

    18. I still don't have a name for my Miu yet (but I'm probably just going to keep her as her sculpt name since it has grown so much on me and feels so natural to me). But my DDH-08 head has a name and her name is Liz. Funny story about how I got her name. I got her head in the mail from a person who bought her for me (I paid back, etc) and I opened the box up. I've never owned a DD head yet with the soft headcap system until she showed up. x3 I was so amazed at how much easier it was to take it off and I said it basically made me "j…zz" which then I randomly thought of a name that rhymed with that word and I came up with Liz. Haha, oddly enough, it has stuck. :P I apologize for the language, that's just how it happened. :P

    19. My first BJD was to be a doll version of me, As most people relate me to Alice (from Wonderland) I used google translate to get Alice in Japanese, Arisu.
My second doll already came named and I kept it, despite being the same name of a stalker I had :pout:

    20. Unless I'm buying a doll for a specific character I want to shell that already has a name and story, I end up choosing and buying dolls that I really want and referring to them by their sculpt names but eventually I find the perfect name for them. It usually is just name I hear from tv that just clicks in my mind as THE NAME for them.
