1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. As soon as I got my first doll, I had already had his name chosen, as he resembled a character I was writing about. And so unfortunately I only have one doll at the moment, but I'm sure I'll cycle through names on my next one to see which one fits best with their "personality" and face.

    2. Hmm, I'm sure I posted before in this thread but let's have a go at another name analysis or two. Usually my dolls have characters before they're dolls, as is in this case, so the names are chosen way before they're here. For some they just appear, and for some others I go through complicated processes to decide on them. So let's welcome to the stage Rin and Nero, my incoming Crobidoll Tei and Minifee Celine boy.

For Rin, I wanted a name not to match his personality, but a name his parents would have picked. He is Japanese (unlike his half-Russian half-brother) so I had to go kanji digging because Japanese people place a great deal of importance on names, and as much as I'd love to I'm nowhere near expert level when it comes to the Japanese language (yet!). So after going around I found 凛 a character that means "dignified" or "gallant" which sounded about right as a name that Rin's father would have picked. And what about his last name, Hakuouka? The "ouka" 桜花 in his name mean "cherry blossoms" and 白 stands for white.

As for Nero, his name means "black" as most people probably are aware. However that's merely a "fake" romanization of his real name 二色 which is actually "Niiro" meaning "two colors".

    3. My names so far have come from MMO characters I've had.

    4. I go to baby naming websites and choose from whatever name sticks out to me. :) I start out trying to pick one with a meaning behind it, but in the end I usually just end up going with what sounds the best.

    5. I kind of just stumbled upon a name online while reading articles (wasn't even thinking of BJD names for my new doll) and it just seems beautiful. I haven't for sure decided on if I will use it for my doll, but for now, it's at the top of the list!

    6. My first doll, it took me a while to come up with a name for him. I really wanted something that was cute and that stuck and that suited the doll as well. My second doll was a little easier since he was directly based on an original character I already had. My third doll, I just respectfully kept the name his previous owner gave him. :3

    7. My first BJD was a Christmas gift. I'd gone absolutely BONKERS for Pipos Curo and my friends helped my boyfriend find one. I'm fairly sure I'm not going to have children. A name I'd love for a girl would be "Amelie Leona". Amelie means "industrious and admiring" and I loved the French film. The title character's whimsy reminds me of my grandma "Leona" which is also French and means "like a lioness". It was a very fashionable name in 1912.

The rest came easily. My Blue Fairy Jasmine was named after the funniest story two English businessmen told at the hotel bar while I was at Anime North... I was in Lolita so that alone was a fun talking point. After hearing about "Violet the Bull Mastiff" I was sold. (I love Violets! My favorite perfume is Stella, soooo many roses and violets and doesn't smell like "old lady".)

      So Violette it was!

My DollZone Kane is decidedly a little boy and a scamp! So another family name was used. The original "MacDonaugh" had a funny bratty little boy story. It was very important to his parents that he use the outhouse before they left for a fair. Whenever we hear a parent pleading with their child we'll whisper, "Poop for Papa, Mackie."

Amelie Leona's little sister, a Pipos Rooney is named "Marguerite" and her best friend, a Cheesemouse is "Lily"... So flowers, France, and old fashioned names.

My my next doll is a boyfriend for Violette. He will be a BF TF Gentle Body Nicky in Normal skin. He will be styled after Alphonse Elric from the manga and FMA:Brotherhood.

    8. i have decided to call my incoming girl Arabella. it just sounds so sweet and cute to me. I came across the name a few weeks back when i met a girl with that name. she was sweet and shy. so a fitting name in my opinion. Might change between now and then though as theres so many amazing names like Petra and lemon, i'm thinking of getting my girl a cat and calling her lemon.

    9. I Name mine by naming them after some of my favorite video game characters
      Risa (siren)
      Luca ( ar tonelico 2)
My other dolls are named after the characters their based on
      :p

    10. I named mine a few days before he arrived home.I planned a character related to fire, and as I couldnt imagine a good name,I search on a webpage called 3000 names or something like that. There are lots of names, with their own explanations.I did search for "fire" and the name "Aidan" got me.It means little fire. Then,i changed it to Aydan, just cause i liked it more. His character had some kind of "alter ego",and I gave him another name,Chaos. The complete name is "Chaos Aydan Devious" .Devious comes from a song I liked then (from Slipknot). I just liked how the word sounded on the song haha I dont have much imagination

    11. I bought my first doll from a friend who was selling some to make room. I wasn't sure what to call him at first but after a few days the perfect name popped into mind: Amon. It's the name of another OC I have from an RP community I run. Even though he shares the name with another character of mine it suits him perfectly and I couldn't think of anything that would be better.

    12. I still have a hard time naming my dolls. When I get them I always want to give them special, unique names and I always just stare at them until the first name that suits them most comes up. They end up kinda simpe but hey when you get your doll and the first thing that comes to mind is "Rain" or "Linnet" then that's what tends to stick.

    13. My dolls have 2 names. The first is their own names which are characters from my story (for those who are part of the story) and the second names are for those who are not part of their story would call them. They would have their names (first) before they arrived and I would look at them before searching baby names for the internet for their second name. Since my first 2 dolls have four letter names (for their second names), I decided to follow the trend and name the rest of my dolls with four letters as well.

    14. My doll's names come from all over the place, games, characters in stories (liked or disliked doesn't matter), or i make them up.
Rhiannon has her name from a computer game i played some years ago called 'Rhiannon' and I just really liked the name, and when I got her I knew that was it.
Fern got her name from GoT where there was something about 'of the Rainwood' and I loved that so much, and she's a wood elf sorta thing, so Fern of the Rainwood suited her perfectly :)

I love reading all these different ways to come up with doll names :)

    15. If a name doesn't pop into my head, I make a variant on their sculpt name - so Latte became Lara, Clovera became Chloe, Jeremy became James, Hejin became Hayley, etc.

    16. I had a character name decided before I got her, but the character I was shelling changed as I was browsing sculpts. In other words, I was going to shell Suigintou, but decided to shell Mitsuko instead.

    17. My first several dolls all come from my made-up mid 20th century family, so I made a pool of possible names from an index of popular names based on censes returns of the year the character would have been born. Once the doll arrived, I'd find the name that seemed right to me. Regina used to be nicknamed Queenie, but she seems to prefer Gina these days. I don't yet know how the two MSD girls I'm waiting for will be named. I don't even know if they are from the same universe!

    18. My doll was suposed to be named Seth but given a thought for a day, i felt it didnt suit him. so I changed it to Noah. he told me that name in my dreams. >_> and it fits him perfectly because everytime I see him, he calms me.
I also have another boy coming this month, I might call him Linder because it sounds nice and I like lemons.

    19. All my dolls received their names after they came home. I usually would write down a list of possible names and then use whichever one fit the doll best. I like to use names derived from nature like my girls Meadowsweet, Olive and Fawn. But I also will use names that aren't nature based like my girls Sarah and Georgie. I do plan on shelling my only RP character who is named Estre so she will be my first doll to arrive already named. :)

    20. googling the beautiful names or check about the color name. ( I like color name! ) but when I have over 10 dolls, its hard to take a new name now... I have two more doll need to take a new name...lol...
