Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. I have another small story to share! I've recently purchased foolbpt's mr Kitty whose creation I've been following ever since a long long time ago. I knew I just "had" to have that doll when I saw his option faceplates. There was something about him that just definitely won me over and to this day I still don't know what it, most likely the whole package. xD; Ever since I realize that I've "wanted" him I got to slowly piecing a sort of character for him together, and the more I looked at him the more I realized that he was another of those characters that wasn't going to be satisfied with just any old regular name. So, I started with deciding to keep the "mr" in his name but even after long speculation nothing seemed to click... until my brain decided that he had to be "mr Charming" because of course that seemed to be the most fitting for such a charming doll that made me want to buy him before he was even properly cast in resin!

    2. Well with most of my dolls I dont choose a name before I have her.. but right now I've been staring at a doll every 10 mins and for the first time I came with a name before even having her XD
but yeah I usually just stare at the doll for awhile and dress them up and .. well thats the moment I come up with a name XD

    3. I come up with my dolls' names based on the impression I get from their picture and/or whatever meaning I want them to have. When I look up the impression name, it usually turns out to mean exactly what I was thinking of or how I was feeling at the time. It's kinda funny and neat how that works out! :)

    4. It will be a few months before my PukiPuki Sugar gets here, but I already decided that I wanted to name her Amethyst. :) Her theme is that she is a mineral sprite. I plan to take lots of pictures of her out in nature and with my mineral collection.

As for my DC Queena, I have no idea still! I have more than a few months to plan her out, too. :)

    5. I build characterd on my dolls..
Before the dolls arrived, I look for the names on google
Usually i came up with names that I like then I check in google is it a good name or not (i'm not gonna name my doll as serial rapist or something bad)
And i consider the name to match the character
Like my first doll named George Francis Wyatt, i love the name george and francis is like my name (my name is fransiska)
Wyatt is taken from the serial TV Charmed (piper's son) and george sounds like a gloomy yet nice kid
My lovely tiny hansel from luts named Yehoshua Salvatore Wyatt, because he is Italian hahaha.. And Yehoshua is the latin name for Joshua.
So all of my dolls name are 3 words name and ended with wyatt as their family name
And i check on google if their name is "clean" or not...

    6. I choose names based on my characters- though as a default I have a penchant for more Greek/Roman or Indian/ Arabic/ Egyptian names. sometimes though that does not always work when the doll arrives. I've had dolls that had to 'grow' into their names or i had to form their physical character more first before the name fit them so to speak.

    7. I had a name prepared for my first boy, but after months of "play" I noticed that I was losing interest. His style and name didn't suit him at all.

I experimented with clothing styles for months until my dandy, blue-eyed Oliver became the boyish (yet cute), brown-eyed Timothy he is today!

    8. Many things inspire a doll's name.

It is very often the name of a character in a book, movie or TV show I am watching at the time, so the name given is a kind of memory stamp. 'Oh yeah, she's named Temperance because the summer I got her I started watching Bones'. (<true story, lol)

Sometimes it's a name with symbolic meaning that I think fits the doll's colour scheme, personality, eyes...whatever. Like 'Hera' for a majestic beautiful blonde doll who might just be a bit of a crazy glint in her eyes.

Sometimes I used names to group dolls together, such as Lily, Petunia, Bella (the next one will be Cissa xD).

And often it's just that I *really* love that particular name so have to use it :)

    9. My dolls are named for various reasons, one of them being just pure lack of creativity :XD:

      Crispin - favorite actor's name
      Alice - book character
Cern - name of a god
      Beatrice - just a name I like
kira - the doll's sculpt name
      socrates - movie character
muse - the character is reoccurring in multiple of my stories and inspires me

    10. I choose my dolls names based on their characters, or in the case of one of mine on a chance description by someone on a forum. This particular doll favoured very curly wigs and dredlocks and someone said she was a 'sweet little Moppet'. Her name stuck especially as i had a doll as a child called 'Milly Moppet'! Most of my dolls are based on childhood storybook favourites so they are bought with a name and character in mind.

    11. I know my ResinSoul girl the name Beijing just more or less came to me. When I had trouble naming my sad boy and woulcn't find a soft name a friend gave me a list. I ended up choosing Emile, I love it for him it sounds nice and suits him.

    12. I usually named my dolls the character I loved.. usually from musical, books. Or just wait until the name pop up in my head lol. I consider my dolls as brothers or sisters, and in my culture, since brother and sister usually have similar name, so I try to make a name as similar as existed one.

    13. I love this thread! I love to see how creative people are in naming their dolls- its interesting/inspiring :)
Personally, I adore names from mythology/old lore.

    14. Most of my dolls are named after characters I've created. A lot of times I look through dolls with that specific character in mind, and keep looking until I find a face that matches what I have in mind.
For the DF-H girl I have on layaway, she was more of an impulse buy, cause I loved her sculpt a LOT, but then heard she was being discontinued and I panicked. XD Had no name or character planned for her, but since I've been looking at her more and more in pictures, the name 'Estelle' came to mind and it just feels right for me now. Who knows if that'll still be the same once I have her home in my hands, but for now no other name feels 'right' so Estelle it is. :3
That happens a lot for dolls I have who I didn't have a name for. My Daniel, I had no idea for him, and it wasn't until I looked at him for a while that his name just popped into my head and nothing else felt 'right' for him. It's fun when that happens. I like to think they kind of 'chose' their name themselves. haha

    15. I touch them, pose them, get a "feel" of what their personality; then a name just comes to me.

    16. When I got Shakaku, I just let him "pick" the name. He decided his name was "Hudson". So Hudson he is!

    17. I didn't really have a name in mind for her when I bought my doll, in fact, I had been at a loss as to what to call her. It was only when she arrived and when I saw her that I thought of her name, Nila. Somehow, it just popped out in my head when I first caught a glimpse of her. Might be because I just finished reading And the Mountains Echoed at the time.

    18. I used to write roleplays and one of my partners always chose romanian names for his characters. I totally fell for them so I tried to remember as many of them as possible. And while I was waiting for my first doll all of these names came to my mind and Viorel was the one that I liked the most ^-^

    19. One of my girls, Lilith, kept her sculpt name.
my other is named Primrose after one of my two imaginary friends I had as a child; I'm saving up to buy her sister Birdie ;)

    20. My girl doesn't have a name and I've had her for like two weeks and had been waiting for her for over two months. I tried starting a contest on my Instagram but no one entered .-. Still have no idea what to call her. I might just end up calling her model name.
