1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. All my dolls are based off of characters I've had for some time, as opposed to the characters being based off the dolls. ^^ The doll I'm receiving soon will be named Desmond. Desmond Jasper Carota. :D If I am able to get more dolls, I have a list of characters I hope to doll-ify, so they all already have names, and I've even found sculpts that I feel could work for a few of them. :aheartbea

    2. For the little ones, i put their names from children i had know in the past, for my bigger boy, my mom gave his name, after a dream she has, also a nickname too, for my Pet i put her name to remember my dog that passed away in february u.u.
For Killari that is an ethnic girl, i choose her name from quichwa languaje, if means sunrise ligth

    3. First doll - I have a clear vision of character and its has name already, actually its game character. Second - well, I have list of lovely names and one of them, I think, will be good for doll then I'll buy her =D

    4. I don't have characters for my dolls, so I just tend to pick what feels right and what suits them. I do theme my names though, in that a lot of female dolls end up with blatantly male names. At the moment though I'm using bird species names for my dolls. I currently have a Wren and hope to soon add two more birds/dolls to the family (I'm not decided on the species names as of yet). I have one exception though with my Leeke Kiko who is called Gurma after my Animal Crossing character (I have used this name since I started playing the game on the GameCube and still use it to this day on Animal Crossing New Leaf on the 3DS). So yeah, now I look at it my name selection process is fairly random!

    5. Most of my collection are fanart, so they have the names of the characters they're modeled after. But there are a couple exceptions.

Ian I got the year the Rangers went to the World Series for the first time, when we had the whole "claw and antler" hand signal thing going. I saw DZ's Deer Boy and decided I needed a doll with antlers named Ian (for Ian Kinsler, our second baseman, who led the league in steals--the "antler" hand signal was for doing well on baserunning). If I could've found a tiny with claws (hand signal for good offense) to go with him, I'd have probably named it Michael [Young] or Vladimir [Guerrero].

Elomnia is my first doll to be a doll-specific character, and her name comes from angel lore (I think she's mentioned in the Legemeton but it might be one of the other major works, I'd have to check). Basically I'd decided she was an an angel because of her wings, and once I'd decided I wanted her to be from a lower order I got the Watkins Dictionary of Angels and went through it until I found a name and description that fit what I wanted for her. And her backstory grew out of the brief description that went to her name. :)

The next doll in my queue is an Island Doll Jonas, who looks just like a young Paul McGann to me. His name's going to be Andi, for McGann's nameless hero in his early movie "Withnail and I". (The character's literally listed in the credits as "...and I")

    6. My doll (and my future dollies) all have names based on rp's that have since turned into kind of a book so all the names are character. Each name was given depending on the personality, color, habits of the characters. The two odd ones are based off my Husbands character and the other is the name of our cat >.>

    7. My first boy got his name pretty fast. But my two other dolls took there time. It just didn't come to me at first.

    8. Whenever I'm naming anything (be it pets or characters or dolls) I always think about what there personality would be like. Then I look up a couple different personality traits that I want to be in the meaning of the name. I make a list of my favorite names and then slowly narrow it down to which one I think fits/I like the best!

    9. The doll I am waiting on, and the sculpts I want, are all based off original characters, so they have a name already set.
As for how I choose those, I usually just leave a character nameless until a name that fits just comes to me (that sounds really silly, but it's true).

    10. When my girl arrived I had no idea what to call her. For maybe a week she didn't have a name. Then one morning when I was getting ready I looked over at her and though Melody...Then I was like no that's not right, its Audrey! Who knows where it came from but it works well. She's a Leekeworld Artbody Ashley and I find those Artbody girls remind me of the art by audrey kawasaki. Guess it was meant to be :P

    11. My first doll...her name and personality come from a dungeons and dragons character I created. I fell hard from her story to the point where it is so fleshed out the I know almost everything. My second is her husband. I know him almost as well. The third I was having trouble with. Then I met someone with a name I love. The name fit the little one so well.

    12. Most of mine are currently going by their sculpt names, except my DollLove Ruoyi who I've named Mystearica and my Batchix Delta I've named Digit. I really need to spend more time with them and give them proper names of their own.

    13. Most of mine have been based on pre-existing characters I've had for a long time, but I have one doll coming that isn't and I'm starting to realize how hard it can be to pick a name before the doll arrives...she's essentially a blank slate so I probably won't settle until she gets here but I'm flip-flopping between Dusty and March right now.

    14. My names come to me in lots of different ways! Often, the doll itself will 'tell' me its name, as in the name will pop into my head when I'm looking at it. Other times I'm looking for something specific, so I check baby name sites or choose book character names. I don't often know how the name is going to come to me, but once it's stuck it's usually stuck forever! For example, I have a doll that I'm desperately trying to call Toby, but he really wants to be called Leon, and I can never remember to call him Toby even in my head! So he's probably going to end up Leon, even though I really don't like that name very much :XD:

    15. I got some dolls with names that are based on nature-elements as they are somehow a nature-spirit :)
I still always change a bit about the name of the doll itself.
I got a storm/water doll named Skellde (derived from Schelde, a river near my place), Brenne (named after a glacier in switzerland, Brenay) and Katlah (after a volcano in iceland)

And then I have Lynxx, she was supposed to be a cat-girl but ended up completely different xD She kept the name thoug :)

    16. For my human-looking dolls I'd most likely choose from our old baby name list. (When we were expecting our first baby, I went through a baby name book from cover to cover, looking for unique names that had meanings I loved. Came up with a short list of about 150?? Then DH went through that, and chucked out more than 100 of them! lol) For the elfish style ones...I'm not sure yet!! Will have to wait and see and see what speaks to me when my first bjd eventually arrives!

    17. I can't pick a name for a doll until I can see him or her in person. When you see your doll, you can see what type of personality they'll have and what type of name would suit them best. I sometimes use baby names and definitions to help, once I decided what type of name they should have. Like dainty, elegant, tough girl/boy, nature related, cutesy and so on. I hope this helps :)

    18. I Buy a name book, then exploring inside, combining them, looking at the meaning, try to phrase it with you voice, then write it to see how good it will look visually. Now I had 3 name books only for exploring my bjds name...

    19. I thought I came up with Pond's name out of nowhere. But I'm a Doctor Who fan, and her sculpt name is 'Amy', so obviously it was a word association thing. Dean is named after Dean Winchester from Supernatural. My DC Ada is "Princess Pearl" because her character is a princess and I have plans to give her a pearly face-up. My latest doll is resisting being named at all. I'm hoping that her new string arrives soon and restringing and glue sueding her will help us bond, and a name comesout of that process.

    20. I really like my story +^_^+.

So, got my doll from a garage sale, and the owner knew next to nothing about her - no specs, no maker, nothing. Even googling the name on the case didn't help. Meh, oh well. So I sat her down and thought for a while. I wanted a doll so I could have a pretty mini-me. She'd accompany me to cons, and I'd probably dress her in cosplay once I figured out this whole tiny-clothes-sewing stuff. Most of my con friends started online, so they know me by NinjaWolfess, or Ninja. And my doll would be a mini-me.. so ... Nina (Ninja without the J).

I posted my doll pics on DeviantArt, and mentioned I knew nothing about her. I got a tip towards a maker I should look into.. And go figure, the model name is Nina! She's a FantasyDoll Nina V1. It couldn't have been more perfect - felt a little like fate.
