Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. All my kids have a Japanese/Chinese names (Kanji) that relate to their personalities~
I guess I like using names that sound poetic (using climat, elements, etc...) When you look at them, their names just pop out xD

    2. At first I had no clue what to name him so I went with the company's given name, Douglas. Later, I thought the name Edgar would fit his personality better so I changed it. Turns out it was a bad fit, so I changed it yet again :XD: this time to Erin, after a friend I had. I figured it was more of a gender neutral name, and it worked with the character too. Who knows, I may change it again, probably not.:sweat

    3. I'm looking on the internet in name books, but i give the name official, the day i took her in my arms :) Than i now it for sure. If my doll have a dark skin, i give her tropical names like carrera, bonita,lollita... If her skin is white i give japanese. Normal skin i give east european name. My dolls name are: Carrera, Viola,Noora, Geïke,Nata,Finnley,Nina,Dunga,Dina.

    4. I haven't bought my doll yet, but when I do, he'll most certainly be named Shiloh, but go by his nickname Charlie. I was brainstorming for names at one point and came up with Shiloh, but I didn't write it down so I forgot it later. :doh After that I couldn't remember what I wanted to name him so I was coming up with names and it struck me that Charlie would be a fitting name. When I saw a post someone had made earlier on this thread, I remembered Shiloh and decided that the nickname would be Charlie. And don't worry, I wrote it down this time. :)

I guess where you get your name from is based on a lot of things- from an oc, or a way the doll dresses, a way the sculpt looks, the name the company gave the sculpt, something you love, or the general feel you get from the doll. I've seen names that are old fashioned, current, futuristic, or just plain nouns. ( I was considering Copper or Silas for a while, which are completely different. :| ) BUT don't be afraid to change your mind on names, find one that you love. At least the way I think of it is that it should feel natural, comfortable to the doll. It should feel just right.

    5. My first doll will be "Ell" from Migidoll. I'll call him Pavel, cause I like the name from Star Trek (Chekov), it means "little one" and that really fits to a bjd..and Pavel sound a bit like Ell (Pav/ell) :)

    6. I have a few boy names that I like from ideas I have had or Dungeons and Dragon characters I have made. I was set on naming my first doll Soren, my favorite name, but when he came it really didn't fit his face, so I named him William Vincent. This is another name I have used for other characters in the past and it suits him just fine.

I'm ordering another doll who I think will suit Soren better, but we'll see what happens when he gets here. He won't have a middle name if he does get named Soren, my D&D character didn't have a middle name either. Oh, and I don't name use these names because I want them to have the same backstory or personality as characters I have made. I used these names in the past, so I obviously like them. Suiting the doll is just an appearance thing.

At this moment, my doll doesn't have a story to go along with him. He's just a cosplayer.

    7. Tripp's name is from earlier on in her concept. I always wanted her to be poisonous but was thinking similar to a poisonous mushroom at first, that makes you halucinate. I am leaning towards more fatal and poision dart frogish now, but the name I still like. She will still look very trippy as she is going to have that bright warning colouration poisonous critters do. I am planning another doll for the future but just can't come up with a name. I have visuals in my head, but no name except Orpheus and I had wanted something more modern... I have always had more problems with guy names. When I get my mini machina girls they will be RockGirl X and Zero after MegaMan X and... well, Zero.

    8. I totally just Google "baby girl names" (or boy) and look 'til I find something that I like :)

    9. I always use 20000-names and just look at the categories I think suit the doll (whether it be for meaning or nationality), write down every name I like, then keep crossing the names that I don't like as much off the list until I have just one left. I do the same thing with characters for my stories.

    10. I looked through some baby name books, until I found one name that just jumped out at me. c: (But my doll hasn't arrived yet so the name may be changed if it doesn't suit) ;)

    11. It took me a while to come up with the names for my first two dolls. For my boy the name Tate just popped in my head and I couldn't get it out of my head...and I think it fits him so that is his name. My girl I had a harder time with. I had ordered a couple of wigs and didn't pay attention to the names of the wigs until I received them. One was called Ellory and I thought that was the perfect name for my girl.

    12. I named my doll after a Build-a-bear snow leopard I had when I was twelve, which I named after Alicia Combatir, a character from Tales of Symphonia, and also because I really like the name :)

    13. I'm thinking of Ren for my first doll after Kieren Walker from In The Flesh. :whee: For some reason I started thinking about that when I woke up the other day. Don't know why.

    14. I name them names I like. I am much better with coming up with boy names then girl names. My dolls have three names, First middle last. My favorite girl is Lillian Nadine Fletcher. I picked fletcher because I like the old way of naming families based on profession and the dolls with the fletcher name are fairy hunters and use archery. Nadine is her spirits name in tradition with my families tradition of picking the middle name as a wish for the child, It means new hope, which is what I wished for her, and Lillian is because she looks like a Lillian and I originally had her as a Psyconauts cosplay doll.

      haha So complex.

    15. I have several names I love
sometimes it's the doll herself who tell me her name :)
sometimes I have a particular character in mind
Sometimes I have no name idea at all so I search on Internet

    16. I've made several lists of names. I google babies' names or if I am interested in a particular culture, I google the babies' names given at that time/in that country. I often go for names linked to nature, or minerals etc. so I do a web search of them when I am stuck. Some just pop into my head out of nowhere. Most of the names I like aren't gender specific so it makes things easier.

    17. My first doll (Iplehouse JID Isar) is on the way, and her name will be Sabetha--she's named after a thief/con artist in a fantasy book series I adore, and that's the character I'm basing her personality off of.

    18. I came up with my doll's name by going onto a Japanese name site and I thought about what I wanted his name to mean. He is my "bright prince" so his name is Akihiko ^^

    19. I got in to the first few seasons of Red Vs. Blue web cartoon. While my Tucker's character traits is sorta inspired by Caboose, I preferred the name Tucker. It fit his cute derpness Perfectly!

    20. The Abbé Roget de St. Cyr is my new boy. His name came from a character I played in the "Choice of Vampire" text game. When I fell in love with the MA Abby sculpt, I knew I would give him that name.
