Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. One of my dolls was named after a street... :sweat
It wasn't a significant street either. We were just out driving one day and BAM! Quinn.

    2. My doll characters are based on the dolls itself so I let the sculpt talk to me usually. I'll go through name lists and jot down any name I like and usually through that process there is one name that will just click like that. I've actually helped friends name dolls with that method too XD

    3. My doll's name by the company was You but they said you read this as Yo.
So I looked looked to see what Yo might mean and it comes from Yoel, a jewish name that in English is Joel.
So my Yo is a small part from Joel.

    4. I just stare at my dolls until the right sounds form together in my head. Usually by looking at them I can tell what letter their name should start with, and I go from there. It's like composing a name. I don't always use middle names, because I tend to like shorter names for most of my dolls. If it was a bigger doll, I think the name would be bigger. My short dolls have short names, haha..

    5. I went searching websites like Babynames.com and Behindthename.com looking for the perfect name, but nothing I came across really seemed to click. One night I was lying in bed thinking about it, and the name just kind of came to me. I'm really not sure how. Fortunately I remembered it in the morning, though!

    6. Many of my dolls were chosen based off of their faces matching characters of mine, but my first doll, Ashtie, came to me without a name yet. I wanted something fantastical and unique, and had a fun time rolling dice to select letters to form her name. I came up with several names (Including one like Elina Diess) before I finally found Ashtie. Maybe incredibly random, but it was fun, and I find the name to be beautiful.

    7. Well, the last one was a bit of a surprise. I didn't plan to keep her, in fact I was seriously thinking selling her as her sculpt was less cute than expected. It had been a great disappointment. I was talking to my best friend about her and to illustrate the problem and to show her as a doll 'in real', I picked up some eyes which never seem to be right for anybody, a wig that is never used because never right for anybody, and an outfit which is rarely worn because never totally right for the girl I bought it for. Big silence. During which a name, I never considered for anybody, popped into my head. 'She is staying, isn't she?' was the last sentence on the matter.

    8. My doll that I fell in love with happened to have the same name as my dog so I kept the sculpt name.

    9. Erin's name is based on my old friends name Eryna. Sampson's name root is Sam, a person he's loosely based off of ^.^. Gneissic name is base a type of rock, because I wanted him to be synonymous with strong.

    10. Hollow = H0R0 is the text on barcode on the back of Hollow's neck. He's a test subject.
Andrei Machek = Needed a Greek name for my OC. It came from a name website.
Stefano Kjelberg = Pewdiepie (No.1 Youtube channel/Youtube gamer) references for a Swedish OC.
Kimchi = Classmate's nickname for my Korean OC.
Reggie = Infamous: Second Son reference.
Tiberius = Star Trek TOS reference.
Borachio = Chosen by a friend for my Italian-Japanese oc.
Nakamura Reia = Japanese idol's name.
Kusakawa 'Byul' Takuya = Name of Japanese idol group, Chouttokyu's member.
Pavel Noskov = Combination of Star Trek TOS reference, and my other OC's surname. This doll is his little brother.

    11. Mine are mostly characters from personal stories, so that is where they generally came from. As for the names themselves, its a mix. Some are real names (Raja, Naji, Sonin, Fiyanggu, Kaysar), some are combinations of names of various things (Sumekh - Sumer and Sutekh joined together), some are words that I made up that fit with the story (Onau'uma, Unau'una, Mainar, Sankkarr, Enarak, Mithraiel), some are words taken from other languages...and one is misspelt because...well apparently I didn't know how to spell Lambda at the time (Lamnda, Huohua), some I don't even know where I got them from (Mazin, Lairen, Gauron). Then again, some are even fan dolls based on characters from a book or game (Nith Batoxxx, Chronos), so its an insane mix of all the things ^^;

    12. I searched through doll websites for months looking for the doll I wanted to buy and thought I had settled on DZ Elsa whom I wanted to name Dinah, however the more I looked at her, the more I felt she suited the name Connie more so I continued searching for a sculpt that fitted the name Dinah and then came across Fairyland's Minifee Celine sculpt and realised she was just perfect!

I now own a Celine in NS, and as her backstory is situated between Russia and Ukraine, I did a lot of research to give her an authentic surname. The full name I finally decided on was Dinah Lukyanenko.

    13. Jeremy is because he is a nice mellow guy and I have know other guys in RL who were nice and mellow named Jeremy. His last name is his sculpt name and reflects his father's ethnicity. Earnest James Caudill because he is from Appalachia and that wouldn't be out of place there. Pip because my husband commented he is just a little Pipsqueak compared to the others.

    14. When my doll first arrived, she didn't have a name. The very next day I took her to the doll shop to try on wigs. Tried several wigs, but nothing clicked. Then I put a red one on her and she looked at me and said "Hi, I'm Kendra." And that was that.

    15. My first doll I bought from my best friend, and I had known him for so long as "Nathan" that I just kept it like that. My second doll, Venice, is named after the Italian city :3

    16. It's funny, but I seem to name my dolls from whatever language I'm casually studying at the time. For my SD, it was French, so "Corinne" ("maiden") seemed to fit. Who knows what it'll be for my next doll. . . .

    17. at first i come out with dessert name, such as pudding, cream, related to my 2nd boy which name officially from Luts-cream.
after awhile, i consider to pick name that suitable to them, such as i feel that 2nd boy was like a sunshine to me, so i picked up japanese name Haruki which contains the meaning of sun, for the first boy i picked up a chinese name that i think will be suitable for him like starry a bit ;)

    18. Well I don't normally name dolls until they come and I can play with them a bit. With Elda, I didn't have any names in mind because I didn't know what to expect from her but after a couple of days I felt that Elda fit her so perfectly. With Greta, the new girl I have coming, I wanted a name that would go well with Elda (Greta is like her little sister) and I had thought of using that name for Elda. I don't know if it's going to stick but for now it seems nice for her.

    19. When I got my doll he was nameless for 3-4 months. Then yesterday before I fell asleep - bam! It struck me. Now he is called "Reiji."

    20. I had Meia's name picked out two years before I actually got the doll as Meia Furakawa is one of the characters I use for my writing. As for Lark, I got him second-hand at a doll show. He was laying there naked with eye-putty oozing out of his sockets (his eyes were way too small) and he was just so precious that I bought him. As we were leaving the doll show my cousin (with whom I was attending the doll show) asked me what his name was. My mouth worked before my mind did and I said Lark. It stuck.
