1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. Sometime I have name plan out for my doll long before they arrive. Other time I feel like the doll give off the feeling and a name pop up.

    2. I named my new doll (Doll Love Kaja) Tadzio after the gorgeous boy in "Death in Venice."

    3. Most name inspire by Anime, some by personality and species :XD:

    4. Well my doll arrived on Valentines day, so I decided to name him Valentino. I originally called him Valen, but now I'm thinking that Tino might be a better nickname for him..
I don't know how I'll name any other dolls I get in the future. Wait for a cosmic sign, I suppose.

    5. My newest girl my boyfriend came up with the name ^_^

    6. I'm hoping when I get my first dolls I'll see them with their faceups and it will come to me eventually. If not it'll be hunting through baby name books I'm sure :P

    7. I don't usually have a problem naming my dolls. I often use their given name like Celine or Chloe, if it suits them. Otherwise the names just come to me after I get to know them - my Soom Romantic Dillui I named Carmel for example. However I want a new name for my MK Eileen. She's been here a few weeks and I haven't thought of a name yet. Maybe it's time for a baby name book

    8. Some of my dolls have themes going on with their names - the Real Pukis are all bird themed, for example. Some are based around their appearance - Lilac is so called as her ears reminded me of lilac flowers (she's a Lillycat Lulu), Sunniva and Nerissa are red and blue Lillycat Collines (Sunniva means Sun's gift, Nerissa is from Merchant of Venice and possibly stems from Nereis meaning sea sprite), Tipula (a Dolkot Peya) is named after the genus that crane flies/daddy long legs belong to as she is so impossibly gangly. Frankie and Edie are named after (and very loosely based on) characters from Nick Harkaway's book Angelmaker.

I rather like this site for helping with names http://www.behindthename.com

    9. Thanks for the tip. That's a great site - I'm going to find Eileen a name in there.

    10. For my first doll, a Resin Soul Feng, I didn't want to keep his original name, so I chose my favorite name - which was Kyle - and then added Starr as his last name. ;)

    11. The doll I'm buying currently from another owner had a red wig, even though she's not coming with that wig, me and my partner named her Amber. Even though she will come with a brown wig, I still think it will suit her.

    12. When I bought Celine, I asked her previous owner what her name was (and then I knew it was also the mould name), and already having one I decided to keep it. I thought of changing it when she arrived, but on lack of creativity I finished to keep it again. Months later I decided to add "Maria", so now she's called "Celine Maria".

    13. My first .. I think he partly choosed his name and I help him choosed his surname (there was only one term, so it wasnt so hard.. :D the term was meaning of surname. It must means "dragon"). My second boy (who will be soon on his way home) has many names and Im waiting for his help. :D And I have name for one of my "grail doll" .. and its name one lion from group of lions of mr. Fitzjohn and mr. Adams. I love their work with lions. :)

    14. This is a tricky question.... I guess I just study them and get a feel of what kind of doll they are; if they were a real person, how would they act? How would they sound? From there I wait until a name comes to me. Sometimes it's instant. Sometimes it takes a very long time. But I'll "know" when it comes and when it's right.

    15. My first one it was easy, she was just so gentle and I wanted to go with whites and purples so I named her Iris, since she reminded me of my favorite flowers, Irises.
My second girl my fiance picked her name, going with Naomi as it's one of his favorite names and she's a DD so very anime like face.
My third girl- I left her name as is cause it was just so cute and I couldn't help but keep calling her by it. I did respell it however so now Rin is Ryn.
My fourth isn't home yet, waiting on SOOM to ship her out. Not sure what to name her X-X

    16. It took me about three weeks to finally decide on my boys name. For about a week or so he even had a different name than the one I have chosen now. At first I had selected the name Sen from a list of mystical names I found online, I knew I wanted him to have a mystical kind of earthy name. There were like 400 names and Sen was four from the bottom... I liked how it sounded and it meant something like "wood fairy" in Japanese but after a while it just didn't feel right. I then spent another couple of weeks on baby name sites just clicking whatever sounded nice and reading the meanings of the names. The site I was using would suggest other names at the bottom based on what you were looking at. One name kept popping up and I finally decided to click it. The name was Ezra, I had originally avoided this name because there is a new Star Wars revamp show out right now and the main character has that name. For some reason I am just weird about having names I choose being connected to something else in my life. Of course when I told my 6 year old brother the name he yelled about it being from star wars...Anyways, I really did love the sound of it and the meaning, it means "help" in hebrew and come on it has a Z! What really sealed the deal for me was when I asked some other people on DOA here about how they named their dolls and one girl mentioned how she put a piece of her name in all of her dolls names to make them more personal. I just loved that concept and the only part of my name that I could really decide I would be able to carry on to my dolls names was the "uh" sound at the end. My name is Annabella but I usually go by Bella. And Ezra was the only one of my list of names that had that sound. Now the only concern is if when he gets here in a few weeks I decide it doesn't suit him. But I think it will, plus my family and friends call him Ezra already so it has already stuck.

    17. Mostly from games.......like Gary from Fallout 3:XD:
And sometimes random, don't have much idea on naming.

    18. Mostly I hear the name like on tv or while watching a movie and it just clicks that that is the name. I named My DD Veronica while rewatching Veronica Mars. xD

    19. 1. Literary references. I've got some dolls named after fairy tales and also favorite books/stories: Alice in Wonderland, The Nutcracker, Harry Potter, The Last Unicorn, a lot of Elizabeth Goudge's works.
      2. Real people. One doll is named for the person who very generously gave her to me, and one for a friend's son (because they were "born" on the same day).
      3. Names I like. I have a preference for old-fashioned names so I've got a Beatrice, Wilbur, Francis, etc.
      4. Silly things! I've a little elf called Trinket, two big-headed girls named Egghead and Noggin, and a creature with a very odd-looking mouth who goes by the name of Fishlips, among others!

I also have one doll I didn't name at all; I bought her from a friend and cannot see her as anything other than what she named her!

    20. I leave the dolls names given them by the manufacturer, because I'm used to them.
