Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. I named one of my girls after a beautiful Beatles song.

Another one I named based on her sculpt and my love of astronomy.

Another I named a pretty name from a culture I love.

My little guy I named after a hobbit because he's tiny and adorable (albeit slightly less hairy).

One girl I named after a student I once had because her name was so quirky and cute sounding.

And one I named after a gorgeous actress whom the sculpt reminded me of.

So I guess I name my dolls after things I like.

    2. Some were a play on the actual name the manufacturer gave them, some were the actual name the artist came up with if they were an OOAK and therefore modded, some were the name of the doll if LE and the others were often based on the face up and how I thought it made them look or the character they have.

    3. My girl is currently named Demitria RoseMarie Kenzington. I haven't been able to see her in person yet though, so that may change once I actually 'meet' her. The first and last name came from one of my favorite DnD characters, and the middle name was a combination of other first names I had considered. I initially couldn't decide between Marie or Rose, but then I remembered my character named Demi. I mixed them all around and wrote it down. I liked it, and so for now it stays.

    4. for my SD boy I look at satyr name idea and I came out with, Kiyam
my MSD girl she's a caracter that I made so it's, Anis
my little YOSD is in kimono and was wondering wath would look good for her and, Hotaru popped in my head :)

usually I search for a word in other language :)

    5. My big girl's name came after i had her face and wig done. And i knew she was going to wear fluffly dresses. It just kind of came to me after i saw what she would look like. I think Ako suits her very well. I find it really amazing and interesting just how her name and personality just kind of came out. I had no grand design or story. Things just fell into place and Taaaadaaaaa Ako was named :)

    6. For me I planned her name out. I she looked like a character I had drawn. so, I built her to look like that character and decided to name her after that character lol.

    7. Oooo!! I LOVE this idea! Thanks for the tip!

    8. I usually pick them before they get here -in case I chose the mold first and then I made the character- or I choose a name based on the character they have, the meaning inside the name, the origin, if it suits them like 'oh, he's german, lets search for a german name!' Or just if it sounds cool enough for me XD

    9. I usually go on the net and see what names there are, make a list and see what "fits" the doll. Sometimes it is a while before the right name comes along, other times it has been quick.

    10. My boy was supposed to be an christmas tomte, and I wanted old-fashioned Finnish name for him. Väinö felt right and the name stuck, even thought he didn't stay tomte. Now his full name is Väinö Ilmari Ahmavaara (Ahma means wolverine, and vaara is geological formation, tiny mountain, not danger in this case). I wanted some reference to old Finnish religion, hence the wolverine in his name.

    11. My dolls all have fantasy names~I researched online for the meaning of each name that best fits with my doll.

    12. Carousel's name comes from his eyes, haha. I found ome glass carousel horse eyes and instantly decided to build his concept around them. When he arrived, it just fit!

Absynthe, my floating head, was so named because of the bright green wig I got for him. I have since sold the wig and I'm on the fence about keeping the head or not, but his name still sticks, haha.

    13. when i saw my perfect man, i already knew how i would name him. but some weeks later i looked at his promo photo again, and decide to make it a bit longer. Since i wanted him to have "winter" name, it took some time for me to find the correct name. when i found it, the part that i already knew become his last name. His name is Soyala, last name is Kainat ^^

    14. i prepare the name before the doll arrive :)))) much of them is i got from anime or cartoon ^^v

    15. I have yet to rename a doll. I say yet, because I recently bought a basic Pukipuki Cupid doll. I want to make him a boy fairy and would like to name him something fairylike.

When I write, I research names, so I think I'll be doing that, but it needs to be unique and not a common name because he will be a fairyf

    16. For my first doll I thought that his company name fitted him really well so I kept it. For my two girls I thought that their company names just didn't fit them. My tiny was cute, inquisitive, and to me her company name didn't do her any justice. And MSD girl looked like a character from Final Fantasy VII. Thus I came up with Pippa and Tifa!

    17. I'm lazy so I ended up naming every single one of my dolls, similary to their original company name

    18. My first doll got her name from the back story I came up with for her. She's a fire mage from a desert, so her name is Blaze. I tried to come up with something more feminine but Blaze it is. My Real Puki Aki was Kali long before I had her, she looks like pure mischief, so she's named after the Hindu goddess of destruction. My 2nd doll, a Dollmore Banji was Nita for a while but that name just didn't work for her, so now she's Sparrow. She's the only one with a last name so far, Clovermead, after the title of a book. My fourth I've been calling Yin after a favorite anime character, but I'm not sure if it will stick.

    19. Fable was named after my little cousin. The personality I had in mind for her character was really similar to the real-life Fable so I just went with it. Poesy's name was originally going to be Poet (to match Fable) but then I fell in love with Poesy which happens to be a really old word for poet (yay!). Kieran means "little dark one" which is kind of what I wanted him to be (he's a representation of death after all). Nori means seaweed in Japanese and that falls into her story because she got bullied a lot for that and other things. So I think that pretty much rounds everyone up so far (:

    20. I kind of like to relate it to their backstory or personality! I know many collectors use names based on the cultural background or characters in movies, tv, or manga ^_^
