Question: How did you come up with your doll's name?

Sep 29, 2013

    1. My two first girls had their factory name plus my name. But i just leave their names like that because for me they are cute names Chloe (Fairyland Feeple65 Chloe) and Morningstar Caroline(Caroline of Morningstar Dolls(brazilian bjd maker). So their names now is Chloe Haigh & Carol Haigh! :D

    2. I have a pukifee ante named Pocca. I made her name up(although I actually know someone now that called a dog that). I also have a littlefee chloe named Lunnalie. I also made that name up.

As for the rest of my gang, they have names that I like the sound of. Names that suits them. Names that perhaps my future kids will be named. Names that I really like :)

    3. Mine (and my future dolls...) are actually characters from neopets XD I have been a neopet player since 1999 when they came out, so I have a lot of character development invested in this game and really love them. I have a few off topic dolls that are going to get switched over to neopet characters (I didnt like the story i had for them), but my first resin bjd is going to be Hemlawke, who is a woodland kacheek on the game, but she's a princess that gets turned into a hemlock plant, and the prince is going to have a rough time saving her because she's poisonous but she's going to be covered in flowers and whatnot and be very forest-y

    4. Most of the names I choose are of Welsh origin, mainly because I just love how those names sound and I love the history behind them. Sometimes I choose names because of their meaning, sometimes because of how they sound. I've noticed a lot of the names I like have a -in or -en sound at the end, so I've had to change things up a little bit, otherwise all of my dolls would be named that way... lol

Usually it is a perfect combination of a meaning that makes sense with the character AND a name that sounds nice. I can be quite picky ;)

    5. Some names just came to me, some I agonized over and spent time on baby name sites searching various names. Most of my dolls don't have names for the first few months they live with me but eventually one that suits them will happen.

    6. My girl that's on her way home, I haven't even met her yet but I already know her name is Amelia. I've tried to think of other names but just something demands "NO, its Amelia." Then I have a boy of the same head on his way home and his name is proving to be rather difficult. I was thinking Ambrose as they are going to be twins and I like alliteration, but it's not sticking like Amelia did.

    7. I didn't come up with my dolls names, they sort of came to me naturally. I dont know how to explain it in a way that makes sense, but they came up themselves, without me thinking about it.

    8. I went through a couple of my favorite names that suited the style of my doll. And I also asked some friends for some name suggestions.

    9. I had a name chosen for my doll before I got her (Liya), but for some reason I kept thinking of her as "Sakura", so I finally gave in and just formally named her that. I'm thinking that the flowered kimono she was wearing when she arrived to me is what inspired the name. xD

    10. I don't have one yet but I'm really bad at naming so I'll probably either think of a random name or use a baby name directory. I'm pretty bad with that.

    11. For one I used the baby name directory to come up with one before I got her and that didn't work out so well. For my other I just saw a picture of her and it came to me. I recommend naming her after you receive him and play around with his wigs and style:)

    12. I've always liked the name David, and I decided on it pretty much as soon as I came up with his character. He hasn't needed a last name for anything yet, but if he did I'd probably just use my last name.

    13. She made me smile- so I chose a name that made me smile too. I was totally in love with the doll so she had to have a name of something I also love. I usually give my dolls middle names too. But Tinie just fit his factory name the minute I saw him- so he kept it.

    14. Prophesies bestowed upon me in my dreams by the resin gods. hehe! jk! I usually have to play with a doll for a little bit before she "tells" me her name.

    15. My first doll still has the original name of the sculpt (Elvenia) and it's hard to see her as anything else. So for now she'll stay Elvenia, until I think of a name that really hits me. Buy maybe she'll just be named Elvenia forever :P.

I'm currently saving up for 3 Dollfie Dreams. One of them will keep the sculpt name, because I can't see her as anything else! I'm really on the fence about the names of the other two. If I keep the original names, they'll all have names that start with an M, which I think is very cute. But I'll just have to see if they still 'feel' like their names once I receive them ^^.

I have a habit of naming things with the same first letter. For example, all my bearded dragons had names starting with a D, my cats with an E. The same will probably happen with dolls. What's also important for me when it comes to names, is that it has to be a name that is enoyable to pronounce, something that rolls easily from the tongue (if that makes sense :p..).

    16. The first doll I had, I actually researched a name that has a meaning reflecting what he is. Since he was the first, I named him Shinji that means true leader, being the eldest and somewhat of a role model to the rest.

The second one was a present from my husband. Since hubby's a big fan of Deadpool, I named him Wade.

The third was funny. We were playing a video game and the dragon that we kept fighting was named Svara, and at the same time I was ordering the doll. So it had a nice ring to it, although her name started to sound like Vara so it stuck like a nickname.

    17. I find this really hard I like unusual names for my human babies so the dolls have to be different to not into 'normal' names at all.. I went with thimble fir my realpuki tiny doll but I'm still not 100% on my pukifee who's on order I actually find naming quite a long process but once one hits me I like I'll stick to it lol

    18. I wasn't going to name my doll before he arrived, but then I was joking with some friends that he'll be cute like Castiel from Supernatural... They started calling him Castiel and it just kind of stuck. xP His name suits him but his character changed when I got him. He's nothing like Cas. When I was playing Suikoden II, I realized how much Luc's comments would be something my Cas would say. His last name was because I was obsessed with Castlevania. In the end, his full name became Castiel Luc Beaumont. All my other dolls just end up being named after angels. Just narrows the list down a bit. xD

    19. These are my dolls, and their names, name meanings, so far. Some I named for people I liked. Some I named based on what they looked like and what their characters are going to be. Some I named with names chosen to go with their sculpt name and also for the meanings of their names. I'm big on using the baby name books. Most of my names are set except for the Moores, and the Miro Minis's. They're kind of up in the air right now. I still cannot settle on heads for those Miro MSD's and I'm not wanting to keep the ones I have. So they remain unnamed until I do. The Moores are tentatively named, but I still haven't decided if the one doll is going to be female and Siobhan or a male character. The head is male but I might put it on a female body. If I do it will be Siobhan, if not probably Sean.

      Minis

Alba Gordon (RS Ju) (She's named after Lord Byron, sort of. His nickname as per the Shellys was Albe. Alba means "dawn" or "white" depending upon what baby book you're using. Gordon likely means "beloved" in Gaelic but again there's some debate on that. The way I see it her name means "beloved of the dawn" pretty much.)
Narisse de Argenau (Narae/RS hybrid. She's currently using Ju's body but will give it back when I find her a new one that works! Her name means ladylike, which she is and Argenau is from Argentium which is another name for silver. In specific it's very old French silver, which I collect things made from. So basically she's lady of silver, and we will be working with that in terms of her character...)
Unknown Girl (Mini Miro Wind) *
Unknown Boy (Mini Miro Boy) *
Lucy Weston aka Vampire Lucy (RS Lu) (She's named after Lucy Westenra of Dracula, of course, but Lucy means "dawn" or "bright" and the last name means "of the west" so she's "bright one from the west" I guess? Odd name for a vampire!)

      SD's

Dara Dai (RS Dai) (Dara means, compassion wisdom/and the angel of rains and rivers. Dai means great.)
Geordie Byron Gordon (Dollshe Saint Hybrid) (Named after Lord Byron. Geordie=Tiller of the soil, Byron=from the cottage, Gordon=maybe beloved in Gaelic)
Aira Neela (Miro Wind Blue) (Wind of Blue)
Aine de Vert (Miro Custom Green) (Aine the Green. Aine is an Irish fertility Goddess. She's a Mirodoll "Annie" and she's green so I thought that fit well and it suits her character. She's a fey creature, a guardian of the Earth...)
Mychael Sebastien Kelly (MA Kelly) (Godlike/Revered/Bright Headed. In other cases the surname Kelly is an Anglicisation of the Irish Ó Cadhla, which means "descendant of Cadhla". It's also a family name for me and he's a MA Kelly to begin with. So I had to have "Kelly" in there somewhere! Yes, he's going to be a flaming redhead, but with a punk twist. My Kelly, he's very much his own boy and has his own very distinctive style evolving!)
Seamus Moore (Unknown Minimee) (Seamus means James, he who supplants. Moore, from Middle English mor meaning "open land" or "bog" and given to persons dwelling near a moor or heath. The Old Irish Moores are O'Mordha, from the Irish Gaelic word mordha, meaning "stately and noble." Which given the sculpt I have now chosen to use for him, entirely fits. He a Minimee with an awesome strong face. He looks like a Celtic prince!)
Siobhan/Sean Moore (Luts Winter 2010 Hybrid) (Means Joan/John, God is Gracious...) We still haven't quite decided which gender this doll is going to end up being. Either way he/she will be younger sibling to Seamus. Whenever I look at this doll it's like it has two personalities in it's head. I can never quite decide if it's a he or a she. So maybe it will be both Siobhan and Sean, who knows? :P

    20. My boy's name was already decided before I even knew which doll I was going to buy, because he is one of my oldest original characters. The name was actually going to be the name of a female character that I was planning to develop at a later date, but the more I wrote about him, the more the name just seemed to fit him, so he got it instead! :)
