Raccoon 33cm kid dolls in scale with Raccoon women

Sep 20, 2023

    1. Yay! I'm so excited for you both! My children are currently 8&9 years old, so I am around many children about that age with their little school friends coming around. I am 5'7" and my children's faces are right at my chest , but I suspect the raccoondoll women are meant to be taller than I am, so I could see the children being about 8 or 9. Of course people come is all heights.

And also, because I've been looking for quite a while, I have a spreadsheet were I took the average heights of children by age and divided by 4 to get 1/4 scale, so on average a 33cm doll is between 8-10 years old :3nodding:

    2. Omg I love that you actually used maths to work it out!!! That’s awesome. And you’re right about differing heights, I was worried one of my hybrids was too short (JID body, Raccoondoll head), but then it occurred to me that I look even shorter next to other adults I know in real life, and I should stop worrying - there’s more variety than you realise! So that’s awesome she’s somewhere between 8-12 or so. I’ll see how she looks with the face up I’ve ordered when she arrives!

    3. @morganatron That's like waiting for Christmas, just two nights to go :). I added some more shoes to my post, but YOSD feet would be great, really.
      @skyealloway Thank you, that's reassuring :).
By the way, do you feel tempted to buy a dad just to have a family? I know it's stupid, because my guys are always neglected and I could make one of my existing guys her dad, but still... It's tempting :)

    4. Omg I am eyeing off a completely different Sartoriaj guy than I was originally thinking about getting almost solely because I think he could really suit being her dad?! Undecided yet, as also I want to see the new dolls released on the 8th, but yep, I feel like it’s time for a dad to join the crew!!! Just hoping one of my many existing girls looks like they could be her mum once she’s here, otherwise I know I’m going to want another female doll too?!

    5. Lol. I am so glad I am not the only one :). I already bought a woman as her mom when the kids were released, but I wasn't sure if I should just surprise Walden with the news he fathered a child years ago or buy a new guy.

    6. SHE'S HERE!!!! A day ahead of schedule!!! Hurrah!!!!
First thoughts: OMG she has hobbit feet.:lol::lol: Seriously, my first thought was that her feet are so huge compared to the rest of her they look like hobbit feet - and now I'm kind of hoping someone goes with that and actually makes one into a hobbit character?! That would be hilarious!
Also hilarious: that she was packed in a tube?! I've never seen a doll tube instead of a doll box before!
Annoyingly, I had to go straight to work almost after I got her, but I did have time for a little play.

Okay - so, mixed feelings. Unfortunately I didn't like the face-up I chose for her at all, I got a custom one of the Bebe girl, and I just don't think it suits her at all. So that was disappointing, as now I'll have to send her overseas for a face-up (no one seems to do the little dolls here), and not have her finished for months.

She is very cute, and the body poses beautifully, very impressed with that, but something seems a bit off with the proportions? Like, there's the big feet, but also the head - it's wider than the adult doll heads and the eyes are bigger, so it doesn't look quite in proportion, still. I mean, still leaps and bounds better than any other YoSD out there for fitting in, but it's slightly disappointing when she was made specifically to look right next to them!

That said - I really like the height/proportions next to the adult dolls, I think that looks good, and I'm looking forward to sewing for her! I'm hoping once she gets a new face-up I'll be happier, I also think the face-up she has makes her eyes look even bigger, whereas I want to minimise them! I put new eyes in her as I felt the ones she had looked too big, but the only others I had were too small, so time for another frustrating eye hunt I guess! I think she really needs oval eyes, the round didn't work at all, so maybe i'll order some Glib 6mm and 8mm and see what works, not sure where else to get oval eyes?

And despite all my complaining, naturally I'm still considering getting another doll, I really like Sue too and I almost couldn't decide, and I feel just one kind will be lonely on her own?!

Anyway, here's a picture so you can see the face up I don't like (I think it makes her look a bit mean?), in an Iplehouse wig because it turns out the one I got from Raccoondoll I didn't like as much as I thought either, oh well! At least another doll will use that I suspect, it was just a different shade than it looked on my computer.

Also I put her eyes in crooked and you can see some of the putty holding them in, so that doesn't help!
I do think she looks rather cute and "Alice in Wonderland" in that wig, though.

Oh, and I posted to the Q&A on the Raccoondoll website asking if they would consider optional smaller feet. (Maybe if a few people do that they might consider it?) And also asking if they might do elves one day, I think she would look so cute with elf ears!!!

    7. Sorry to read you are disappointed, but I think oval eyes will improve her looks very much. The gaps from the round eyes make her look like she had black eyeliner on, and maybe that's what you don't like? Her overall coloring is very soft and natural, and that blackness around her eyes might be too much of a contrast.
What do you think? You can find oval eyes (the glib ones as well as own brand) on dollmore. Or mudoll (which is glib).

I saw your post on the Raccoon Q&A, I will add my "pretty please" later. I guess the feet are designed to balance out the huge Paola Reina head, but of course that's not needed.

I like how she holds poses- once you get her there. Besides the feet her hip joints are a bit problematic. I am not a doll engineer, so I don't know if the joint could be improved by making it slightly oval. But a lot of dolls (not only this one) with round ball-joints tend to have a turning leg- problem. Her string-slits need to be in the front to bring her legs into sitting position, and they want to turn sideways constantly. When she's dressed, you can't see the slits, and it's fiddly to turn them in the right direction, because you automatically turn the mobility joint instead of the hip joint. I gave mine a thorough sueding today, I hope the legs will turn less.

It would be lovely if @raccoondoll gave the body a little update- maybe even make a taller teen-version and tweak the little left-over Reina-features. Like the robust forearms and ankles, or the still pretty strong neck. I don't mind her eye size at all, they still look natural. IMHO the heads are lovely as they are. The eyes of kids are larger in proportion, that fits into the schema of childlike characteristics. But the distance from chin to neck is rather short, and she can't turn her head up very far. That might be useful for pictures with taller mature dolls.

But I am so grateful that he created these girls at all and made the dream come true, that I don't want to discourage him with complaining about small things like that. Still- a kid doll and a teen doll engineered in the same way as the Naturally posing body, with YOSD sized feet... that would be so great. Maybe when he's looking for a new challenge :). One can dream, right? Raccoon is the only one after all who offers these Kids for the fashion doll size, so I guess they will become popular once everybody is showing their pictures with the kids.

I love the tube! And I've seen that from other companies before. It's clever and just needs minimum storage space, the tube can stand upright.

She fits into Iple Kid tops and dresses, the arms are the same length. Pants are to wide, though. I will publish a leggings pattern later this month.

Did you try normal YOSD pants on her?
By the way, I don't know if you read that: Younan tried Ruby Red shoes on her, they seem to work.

    8. I think I was complaining way too much yesterday, often the way (for me anyway) when a doll arrives and they're somehow different than you imagined, but then you get used to them?

So - liking her much better today!!! I put her original eyes back in, and they are much better, and after looking at her a bit more I think it's mainly the way her mouth is painted that I don't like - when I cover up the mouth the rest of the head and eyes look fine to me, I think she looks too unhappy and I actually want her to be smiling, and maybe the lips to look a little bigger? But that's on me for choosing that face-up, which is not a smiling one! So, she can have a new faceup when Angeltoast is free (I do love her faceups and she does these tiny ones so well), and in the meantime I'll make her clothes and contemplate if I want to get her other wigs or eyes. (Or feet?)

And you're right with everything you say with eye size, etc! I would also love a slightly smaller neck and the other tweaking, but I'm so happy this size even exists!

Ooh yes, those Ruby Red shoes Younan tried looked really good on her!!! I just can't work out where to buy them? Anyone else know? (I still want to see if I can get different feet for her though!)

I'm going to try the Antique Lilac Renaissance KID pattern for her, I did a quick mock up and it would probably be fine to make it as it is, but I'm going to change it slightly - I think the shoulders could do with being a bit narrower on her, and maybe the sleeves (possibly just my personal taste), and I think I will make a rounded neckline instead. And then decide what colours I think would suit her! Hmm, baby blue or pink maybe? I'll have to look through my fabric and ribbon stash!

    9. That's great :). As for the Ruby Red shoes: They are playline dolls, and available on Amazon, so I guess the shoes are too. There's a group on fb you might want to join and ask if there are any sources in AU.

    10. Thank you, good idea!

    11. So interesting reading how ya'll are feeling about the new kids!
@morganatron yes I agree, I think her lips are painted where she looks a bit sullen and pouty. Her eyes and eyebrows are nice!

There are so many elfs in my doll family, I would look to have a kid with droopy elf ears or tiny elf ears. Like I'm sure I could pretend there are tiny elf ears (who would see under the hair?) but I might be safe for now while they are just human children. ;)

    12. Ooh just got a reply from Raccoondoll on Q&A! They said:
“We know that Kid doll need tiny foot, and we will make soon. A lso, We will make Kid doll's elf head. So, get excited about it!”
      So that’s amazing news!!! :D

    13. AW CRAP ELF HEAD!!!!

LOL that's awesome  I better start saving

    14. I'm glad I resisted the first offerings! I'll wait for the smaller feet and the elf head.

    15. I'm already planning to buy another once the elf ear ones are released! :D

    16. Double post sorry, but her dress is done but I just realised I never posted it here, so here she is:
Along with a Laetitia and an Emma - trying to decide if either looks similar enough to be her mother??? Hmm. Unsure. Maybe Sabriel, my Emma with the red hair? I've been wanting to get a blonde lady doll for ages, which might be better in terms of looking similar, but I just ordered a SartoriaJ Philip (to be her dad, lol!!!), so it will be a while until I can get another doll I think!

      • x 6
    17. They all look beautiful. Emma could be her mom - but it's too good an excuse to buy another woman to decide on one you already have just yet, right ? :)

    18. Ha ha, you're so right!!! It's funny, I don't mind getting adult dolls that have no relation whatsoever to any other doll, their backstory is just "this dude showed up one day", but I feel like a kid needs a family to look after them?! Well, her dad will arrive at some point, and I guess her story in the meantime is she's staying with aunts or friends of the family for Christmas while her dad is off on some sort of important mission for the king.

...Yeah, lately none of my dolls have had "characters" as such, but I took one look at Philip and went: No, no! His name is Phillipe, not Philip, and he's a french nobleman who wears fabulous clothes and is always embroiled in scandal and is beloved of the king and has a daughter and a wife and probably several girlfriends and boyfriends as well, and, and... So, yeah. Naturally I instantly had to buy him, and his daughter too.

Now I just need a french sounding name for Ada, not sure what, hmm....

    19. Congratulations! She is absolutely adorable- I notice that the GIRL body is similar to the Girlish Paola Reina body of Raccoondoll so they have the same foot size: 4.7 cm- close to 5cm -which means she can share shoes with Paola Reina. This is a super popular doll especially on Etsy so I think you will find a bunch of shoe makers for her- worth a look!
