Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Rare or popular: discuss your preference

Jul 25, 2007

    1. Actually I prefer the dolls that you don't see around too often. I mean I really liked (nd still do!) CP El but when I saw the database and there was like 250 listed there it totally out me off >_<

    2. I prefer a doll that is very rare and unusual.

    3. I prefer dolls....that I prefer XD
I don't think about "Oh no, many people could have him...now I don't want him anymore D:".
If I like him I don't care if rare or popular.

Sometimes it can be good, when a doll is more popular. First I didn't like DOD Homme Ducan, but after I see some pics from him from other owners, I really started to like him. He can look much better then in the shop XD

    4. I prefer and like dolls that make me feel something. For instance: Hana Elfdoll Devil. The little imp makes me smile. She has personality. Do I like rare dolls and do I like to see them, yes please. If they tickle my fancy and are very limited would I buy, you bet. Mostly, I like what I like. AnnMarie

    5. I prefer dolls that not a lot of people have. Not necessarily limiteds, just ones that aren't as popular. Since I don't really modify my dolls or do other things to make them more "unique," I prefer to have molds that are less common.

    6. I understand the loss of appeal of a doll that is common, but regardless of how common it is with others, the decision should rest ultimately with how drawn you are to it. I'm hoping to acquire DZ's 'Wing' (soon I hope), he seems to be popular. How could he not be, he is gorgeous! Anyway, even if a doll is common, your customisation will always make it OOAK!

    7. I think I'd prefer a lesser seen doll. Just because it would be neat to have a doll that's unique from other people around here.

That being said, it really doesn't matter too much either which way. The doll I have is going to look a hell of a lot different from any one elses, same mold or not.

    8. I definetly have a favorite company. I happen to like their molds the best. I like other companies as well but there is just something about DIM molds I love. No I don't work for Denny. Wish I did. I would take my checks in dolls. I am very in love with Sky and Skiya right now as well. Although I couldn't afford either of them. I am new at collecting so I am just discovering different companies. I do have a very distint taste when it comes to doll. I have to really love the doll or I won't buy it. Everything, eyes, nose, face shape or I won't buy it. It is hard because they can look so differnt depending on faceups. I like that I can look at a doll specific gallery and really see the different looks a doll can have. I saw another doll just today that was very pretty she is a volks Nana but it could have just been the face up since it was gorgeous. Rare dolls make me a little sad because I don't have the funds to purchase them. But if you do more power to you.

    9. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
Neither. It has got to be the "right doll" for me.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
Could not care less either way.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
      No.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
      Sure.

    10. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

Neither, really. I'm one of those 'if I like it, I like it' people. If I had to pick one, it would probably be 'rare', since I tend to like unusual things. I know I will divert funds to something available only for a short time and away from something that will appear again, or could be ordered at any time, but that's not really the same issue.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

No. That just feels wasteful to me. If I don't love it, I don't have room for it in the house anyway.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.

Not a CP doll, no, but I do look around for pics of the larger Soom dolls I like.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

I have, actually. My first girls were ordered at the same time, and one of them was Saiph. She was freshly released at the time, so there weren't any pics to be found.

    11. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

Neither to me! ^^ Which ever one I like. OT for two seconds I was talking to a more knowledgable cosplayer once and I said I felt put off cosplaying a character which I will see 20 of at the convention, but he told me that you shouldn't be put off cosplaying that character as long as you are enjoying yourself, so for me the same applies here. If the doll is massively popular then it doesn't make a blind bit of difference to me. ^^

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views?
      No, that seems mildly pointless.

Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

No, because that also seems mildly pointless. XD

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
No, but I always click if I see an Angell-Studio doll, or a DoD doll.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

Of course ;) As long as I like it, I don't mind whether there is one or one milion of them there, I'll get it. (You get the jist...)

    12. Honestly, rarity or popularity of a particular doll is a non-issue with me.

Sure, if somebody else likes the same doll I do, that's a point in common and a topic for discussion. But I don't care if 30349570132945 other people have pictures of a doll like mine on the forums--it's not going to alter how I feel.

    13. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

I don't put much stock in rare or popular. If I see a doll and I like it, that's really all that matters to me.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

No to both. I believe in getting what I want and not caring what the next guy thinks. And what do gallery views really do to enhance your feelings about your dolls?

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.

I actually don't typically look at the title of the post, I look at almost every one of them. If I see something I like, I continue to look. If I don't see something I like, I move on. I do tend to lean towards DOD, Soom, Iplehouse, and Dollshe first though.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

Probably. I like things that are "unique."

    14. Well, first off, I do have a weakness for CP dolls. Not because they are popular, just because I love the style of their dolls. I wanted to admit that first. :P

Personally, I don't care if a doll is "popular" or often-seen or whatever, if I like the face I'll buy it. I have a few OOAKs, but I bought them for the same reasons that I bought more popular dolls. It just doesn't matter to me either way, I buy what I like. Whether a doll is popular or rare has never even made an impact on my decision, although I think it's neat to have a doll that no one else has. But my favorite doll is CP Soony, I know a bunch of other people have her too (heck, I have 3!), and I couldn't care less, I love her!

    15. I agree! To me it doesn't really matter. I have to be drawn to the doll. I don't know that much about Dollfies and such to classify them as popular or rare if I saw one. lol! =p

    16. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

Between either I say rare. Before you crucify me read first. It is not the biggest thing to me that a doll is rare, however if it is released in low numbers I will be more likely to keep it and not sell that doll. However many doll collectors neglect to keep the spirit of the hobby alive, which is keeping dolls. Not arguing or seeing who has the most dolls or who has the rarest of dolls. The reason I say rare as opposed to popular is you can find a dime a dozen of El's, Lishe's or F-16's but how many people actually own a Custom House St. Mina, or a Volks Lady Sylvie or any other obscure doll? Hence it goes back to the rare thing. Some people out there buy these dolls to give them homes, and don't just buy them and sell them again and again. If I wanted to just have a popular doll then I would, and I have a few popular dolls. I also own some rare dolls that are extremely difficult to obtain at a decent price. I have some what made it a sport to find a rare doll for a decent price, and Yes I have!

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

Now why would anyone want to do that? Buy a doll for other people to oogle over and love more than they actually might? Sorry but no, I would much rather spend that money on other doll things I want more. I have bought dolls that are popular such as my F-16 but I love the mold in general. Now as for the someone considering me a "Follower" I could not give a rat's a## less. Because I happen to like that type of mold of doll and that company I choose to support them. I may have had a bad experience in the past with a particular company and refuse to purchase their dolls ever again re-gaurdless of what they might release.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.

Changing that to Volks, or insert some other company's name. Yes because I love Volk's doll's. I have one of Super Dollfie head plate's tattooed on me, do you think I like the company or what? hahah

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

Yes because I love having diffrent stuff.

    17. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

Well my first doll was a basic pipos ringo, which would probably be considered to be popular, however i don't have it anymore and i now have a limited edition pipos strawberry ringo, which would probably be considered to be rare. I am not sure whether or not i have a particular preference when it comes to buying a doll which is either rare or popular.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

I would buy a doll because i liked it and not because it may get more gallery views just because it may be popular.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.

I have to admit that i have a particular preference for pipos dolls, but i tend to click gallery threads which often don't feature pipos dolls.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

If i liked the doll, then i might, but it all depends.

    18. i think its most important that you like the doll, rather than looking at whether its popular or rare.

even if you get something popular or rare, but not to your taste, you going to force yourself to love it? doesnt seem right.

    19. Like pretty much everyone says, I just like what I like, but I know I tend to like less popular dolls, and if I see a doll that I originally had interested in posted all over the place, I start to loose interest.

Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower? I'm not going to spend 600+ bucks for gallery views >_> While my interest starts to wane when I see one doll all over the place, it's not because I'm afraid of being seen as a 'follower' it's usually just because I'm sort of sick of seeing it on the internet and would be even more sick of seeing it hanging around my room.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company. CP specifically? I'm not really that much of a fan of CP, but I've been clicking CP Moon's because I do want to get a Dreaming Moon head to mod a bit to make into a favorite musician of mine. But I do indeed click on favorite companies of mine.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums? Yes! My newest sculpt love doesn't seem to be on the boards at all, except for a question asked about it.

    20. 1. Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
I'm not really sure how to answer this one. When buying a doll, I don't take its popularity into consideration; I own or plan to own some that are very obscure and likewise some that are extremely common. I buy simply what I like. However, I love primarily seeing the more uncommon dolls in the gallery sections and at meet-ups. The unpopular or underrated dolls thread is my favorite on the forum!

      2. Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
Since I don't post in the gallery, that isn't an issue for me. Sometimes though I find myself coveting the same dolls as one of my friends does and I get the teeeeensiest bit worried she'll think I'm a copycat, LOL. Really though, I think we just have similar tastes at times. ^^ I would never seriously be deterred from buying a doll because of how someone else may perceive it.

      3. Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
Like most people, I check for my favorite molds (and also my favorite doll owners!). So many threads get posted to DoA every day that I generally do pick-and-choose based on my own preferences.

      4. Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
I would be hesitant to do so as I rely heavily on owner pics to determine what the doll will really look like in real life. Even if it had been released a while ago - meaning that no one actually had it vs. people were actually just waiting for their dolls to arrive - I'd be willing to buy if I felt strongly enough about the mold. I always do try to find at least one person that owns the mold so I can get an accurate representation of the doll!
