Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Rare or popular: discuss your preference

Jul 25, 2007

    1. I like being able to see owner pictures of a doll- its very frustrating to me when there aren't any to be found on doa! I like to see what other people have done with a doll, with so many sculpts the company photos can be very misleading. But I would never buy a doll just because there are a lot of them- in fact, I would rather my doll be a bit rarer (of course, that contradicts what I just said about liking to see different ones <.<')

    2. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
      Rare

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

I wouldn't buy a doll just for views, like I wouldn't draw fanart just so more people would look at my art.
And I would choose not to buy a more popular doll. Not because I'm afraid to be seen as a follower just because I get a little tired of seeing the same sculpt.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
not sure what CP means >.>

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
I'm not sure .. user pics are good :D

    3. I picked the doll I ordered by how much I liked it. I didn't come to these forums until after. It's a D.I.M. Danbi, and I notice that DIMs arent as common as volks or SOOM on here, but of the DIM ones, Danbi was a more popular sculpt. It didnt bother me any though, because everyone customizes their dolls to how they like it, that they're all still unique. I do feel a little different that I have a less popular company, but thats ok!

    4. I think I would prefer the dolls that aren't as popular. It's not that I don't think that some dolls aren't beautiful. In fact, I think many are extremely beautiful. It's because sooo many people have the same kinds that it's just nice to have a little variety. I like things to be switched up a bit. So yeah, I'd choose the rarer dolls on the boards over a really popular one, but only if I really liked it. I would never buy a doll I didn't absolutely want. There are many dolls that I like/want that aren't seen around as much, but it's not because they're unpopular or anything like that. It's just coincidence I think.

I would never buy a doll for the sole purpose of getting gallery views. If I buy a doll, it's because I want it. And if I get a lot of gallery views, it'd be because my pictures are worth looking at. And if the reverse happened and I got no gallery views... oh well. It's not like my life depends on a high gallery view count. Besides, I think the comments are more important.

Sometimes I go looking through the gallery for certain dolls (rather than companies), but not very often. I usually only look through the first page for catchy subject titles.

I don't know if I would buy a doll that I hadn't seen on the forums. It's very possible though, if the company photos really appealed to me and I absolutely had to have it. After all, if nobody ever bought a doll they hadn't before seen on the forums, how would anyone else ever be able to decide whether to buy it? I guess sometimes you're taking risks with that, but really, it's no different than buying clothes or something else online. You won't know if you like it until you get it in the mail.

    5. It doesn't bother me at tall I just go for the dolls I really like, I wont buy one just because it is rare if I don't like it. I think the most popular doll I own is a Dollzone Hid there seems to be quite a lot of them around but again I really liked the doll so I bought it XD, with my Soom Beryl she cost the most out of all mine so far but I just fell in love with her and had to have her.

    6. For me, I'm usually a person who prefers to be different, to be honest. I remember I saw Luts El and liked him, but found out so much people own him, I was turned off by that. :sweat Also I discovered that around here, the Dream of Doll Dream of Teen dolls were also pretty popular so I tried to stray away from that.

I wouldn't pick a doll though based solely on how popular or rare he is, but it is a factor in deciding. I just pick the ones I love really.

    7. I can see both sides to it. I have two Lishe's I'd say she's pretty popular but that's not why I got her, I fell in love with her. having two just happened by mistake I was only intending on having one. BUT on saying that the reason I picked Lupin over Spinel is because Spinel is more popular I kinda wanted to go with something a little different to what everyone else was getting. Kinda routing for the underdog he's an underrated mould.
I don't really care if people like my doll or not though, I post them in the gallery for the people that do like the mould, not the ones that don't because I know they wouldn't look. I do tend to click on threads with moulds I like. In terms of picking Lupin I don't think he is very popular onm this forum so I guess I would get a doll that's not very much on the forum.

    8. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
Neither. I kind of go with what I like. Though it sure is easier to decide when picking a popular doll, more owner pics to compare!

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
I don't really post in the galleries much, so it isn't a concern of mine. I wouldn't really worry if a doll is "too popular" that's where the joy of customization comes in, right?

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
I don't really like CP. But overall, I don't really browse through galleries aside from to check out molds I've been considering.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
I'd be a little on the iffy side... I guess it might depend how thorough the company photos of it are (y'know like as opposed to just having one frontal picture and one side picture of the doll, there's photos of like a full 360 and lots of angles). Though I'm too much of a coward to be the first few people to order from like a brand new company or something like that.

    9. It doesn't matter to me if a doll is rare or popular. I won't buy one just because not many people have it and I won't stay away from a doll if it's popular.

I'll buy a doll because I like it. And apparently the doll I'm getting is pretty popular and I had no idea. There are a bunch of people who have a DOT Lahoo and even my friend made the comment that most of her friends have a Lahoo. It doesn't matter to me. I've wanted him for years and just because lots of people have him doesn't mean I should find a rare doll to get.

    10. I find that a doll is like a blank canvas. I will like a doll regardless of what its rare/popular status is. As long as I think it's beautiful, nothing else matters.

    11. I think that it doesn't matter if they're popular or not, if you love them.

    12. Exactly.
After all, who are you buying the thing for? Yourself or peanut gallery?

Go with what you love.

    13. Oh god rare! Definitely rare! I think if someone's looking for attention you would get just as much with a rare doll. I know when I see an unusual or unique sculpt I'm usually more interested in it then if I see the oh so popular Chiwoo or those hideous Hound things.

    14. Kind of OT, and I don't mean to jump on you, Mimou... But you might want to watch what you say. You never know who on here might own a Chiwoo or a Hound. If anyone called Camine 'hideous' I'd be very sad :( So try not to insult molds that other people love.

      Anyway, sorry for that...

    15. I dunno if it's because I'm new to dolls, but I browse through every new gallery post. I might not always comment, but.

As for which dolls I choose for myself, I'm...not good at noticing trends, and don't follow one unless I really like or hate it. Either option is infrequent; I'm so bad at paying attention to anything around me |D; But for me, I choose a doll that looks like a character I have in mind, and that is beautiful. The rest doesn't really matter :3

    16. Mimou - As much as I'd love to be as nice as my friend Chopsticks up there, I can't. So shutup if you're going to insult others' tastes. Besides, you get a doll because you like it, not to get attention. This is way to expensive a hobby to get something you don't like.

      Jerk!lyfe out.

    17. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
I love looking at the popular molds, but I personally am attracted to rare molds. I found that recently. Rare, both as hard to get and unpopular on DoA.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? I would get a popular doll if I like the way it looks. Gallery views aren't a factor in my decisions for a doll.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest!
Yes, but only because the CP molds are quite abundant. I'd click on Dollstown just as much if more people had them but there aren't. Or Leeke Mihaels if there were more; just as an example. there really isn't a company i don't like.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
depends on all the factors of the equation= "is it something I need?" "Am I compatible with this doll?" and the biggie "how much is it?"

    18. Hounds, lol I used to think were hideous too, but after seeing so many I fell in love with them:D I guess being popular does have advantages I never really realized till just now. And Chiwoos, I used to adore (still do) but I find that I haven't viewd very many in the galleries as of late:doh

    19. I would only get one because i like it, never because it's rare or common, in fact if it's common, that means the more reference pictures there are for me. such as homme ducan, i'm hoping to get him soon and i love looking at everyones pics, though when i found out how many people actually had him i was a little bit off put, but then i thought i should just get what I want, and not be swayed by whether theres 5 or 500+ out there

    20. Mimou most people like to have a discussion on this forum that doesnt involve insulting others likes or dislikes. You can keep things like that to your self, you could have simply said "the popular dolls like chiwoos or hounds", that would have come across ALOT more polite.:daisy

On topic though, personally to me i like either, my choice of doll is uneffected by popularity ive had both woosoo and a lishe so all that matters to me is that i like the doll for how it looks.
