It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Rare or popular: discuss your preference

Jul 25, 2007

    1. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular? If I had to choose, rare. But honestly it doesn't matter very much to me as long as I'm in love with the mold.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower? I think it's kinda shallow to buy a doll just to be popular on this site; you should buy the doll because you know that no matter who hates or wants it, it's your doll and you love it. To the second question, no, a CP Shiwoo was the goal of my dollfie dreams for quite a while. I'm also a die hard Migidoll fan.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company. Not exactly, if it was from a really good artist that I favored then yes. Also if it was a Woosoo or Shiwoo then yes. :) But that's all personal preference.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums? Definitely, although I do like to see owner pictures first. I love finding new dolls before the news bulletins here do, lol.

    2. I've got a Homme Ducan which appears to be reasonably popular and a Narsha which I've only seen in one or two threads.

When looking at dolls I usually don't consult the forums here for anything other than company information and maybe a few reference pictures. I don't really pay attention to how many people have what or how 'popular' a given mold is. I've seen a ton of El dolls, but I've seen one in person that a friend of mine owns- and while her doll is beautiful, it isn't a doll I would buy. I don't care for the more 'expensive' companies either because I think the resin looks too shiney- which is why I usually go to the 'cheaper/lesser' companies when looking for dolls I'd like.

As far as rare dolls go, in terms of 'uncommon on the forums' I do kind of like having the Narsha just to say I have one, but I'm no less giddy about owning a Ducan.

    3. I buy dolls because they fit what I'm looking for. I don't care much for the rest, to be honest.

    4. I don't really mind about the actual doll, but when a company is popular it tends to have a reputation -- be it good or bad -- that can really influence my future decisions. If it's a flakey company, I'd really think twice about it, even if it's a doll that I totally adore.

Sometimes it might be nice to have a popular doll because it's interesting to see other people's interpretations of the same mold, and you can share similar tastes with another person ^_^

    5. I also collect antique dolls and in those, the rarer the better, although that's only one deciding factor. In BJDs, I don't care-I just love the ones I have, and don't pay attention to the companies who make them unless I can't remember a company but know I have seen dolls that I now want! Only a few seldom-seen dolls live with me, but they are no more loved than the others, more common if you will. They all bring me joy, hope that I do the same for them....

    6. Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
Well, I don't own more than one doll, but when I planning to buy mine, I really didn't care what people thought about it, I chose it because I wanted it. I find these dolls too expensive to worry about what others think.

Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
No, I wouldn't, I find using dolls just for popularity is not cool. Thought if it really bothers you, I think that if you can make the doll look good enough, more people will probably notice your doll for its uniqueness anyway. Also, if you do own a popular doll, it doesn't mean you're a follower, just means you like a well-known doll.

Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll?
At times. It depends more on the mold for me. I would go to a CP Breakaway or CP Chiwoo thread in a heartbeat, but I would probably pass on the others.

Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
As long as it's from a reliable company and I really want it, of course. There are many dolls that I don't really see on this site that are absolutely beautiful.

    7. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
I don't really take that into consideration. After all, the doll's primarily for my enjoyment, I don't really see the need to be influenced by other people's tastes when buying a doll for myself.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
No and no. I don't have any of my dolls in-hand yet, but I don't think I'd really care about gallery views. In the end, as I said, my dolls are mainly for me.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
Actually, no. xD I'm not a fan of CP's general style. :p

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

      If I liked it, sure!

    8. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

I'm probably more likely to buy a rare, because it's well...rare. But I buy what I like, and what I like happens to not be popular. And no offense to owners, but I'm so sick of certain popular dolls.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

No, but I don't post in the gallery, so it doesn't really matter. And as stated above, I tend to not like popular's anyway. [some i just get sick of seeing, some i just never liked to begin with]

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
Only if it's Yder. I'm a Dream of Doll person, but even then, it depends on which doll.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

      Dunno, maybe...

    9. I am still quite a newbie to BJDs. I looked around and found one I loved. I ordered him, and then discovered all that is DoA and found out he is fairly popular here. I still really like him, so that is what counts, right?.

    10. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular? I don't care. My dolls are for me. If I get enjoyment out of them, that's what counts. :)

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower? No and no. :) I wouldn't really care if people thought that my doll was too popular and I was seen as a follower.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company. Yes! I love Luts and CP! :XD:

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums? Probably not because I like to see owner pictures here before I buy a doll. ;) Unless it's a SOOM MD....

    11. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?

Hmm... Neither? I don't take popularity into consideration when searching around (Though more popular ones are much easier to find owner pictures of @ @ Yeesh. )

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?

Seriously? Do people seriously buy dolls for more gallery views? To me, even the idea of doing this is completely insane. I don't want to pay ridiculous amounts of money just to get five minutes of attention on the internets.
I would buy a popular doll if I loved it (Even if every single member of this board had one), and I wouldn't buy it if I didn't like it.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.

No, I'm not as much a fan of CP as everyone else seems to be (Unless you count the Fairyland crowd) ? But I -would- definitely do it for Dream of Doll. I am in love with almost every single one of their creations *Drools*

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?

Yes. The only reason I wouldn't, is if I wasn't sure about if I liked the mold or not, and I had no owner pics that I could find of it to make up my mind with.

    12. Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
      - I find rare dolls more appealing simply because you don't see them as much often as popular dolls do. Popular dolls show up almost everytime on the galleries and sometimes you want to see something different right?

Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
-I don't give a damn about what people say or think. I bought my dolls because I like them. I don't care whether he's popular or not. Period.

Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
-Yup I'm guilty at this. Most of the time I go to galleries only for specific dolls I like, usually DODs.

Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
      -Yeah

    13. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
I've always been a little squeemish about getting anything popular...I like standing out and being different since I was little. So, of course, I'd lean more towards rare dolls, even if it's on a subconcious level.
      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
Nah, while I like gallery views, I only want to spend large amounts of money on dolls I like. For the second, I might choose not to buy a doll if it was really popular, unless it was one I really liked. Then again, the weird way my brain wiring works, I wouldn't even know I liked a popular doll because it auto-blocks it. *shrug*
      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
I click everything with a Hound or the name of a doll I'm fond of. Other than that, I'm unbiased to particular dolls.
      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
Sure! No reason not to. I'm actually planning on buying a tiny I haven't seen around here sometime.

    14. -Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
Neither, I buy what I like.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
      No and no again.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
No, not sure what CP is? I click on almost all gallery threads as I like alot of different dolls and the maker is irrelevant to me unless they have a poor reputation.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
Yes! again it's about what i like not what's popular. :)

    15. i buy a doll because i like the mold, regardless of how many people owns it.

    16. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular? It really doesn't matter to me. I'm not going to buy a doll I don't like just because it's rare. If I like it and it's rare or limited it might get bumped up higher on my wishlist, though, just so I don't miss out. Most of the ones on my actual wishlist are pretty popular and common, though I have favorites that are rare, also.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower? I wouldn't buy a doll just to get more gallery views. I tend to be a bit "different" in "real life" so I do find it surprising that most of the dolls I love are really popular ones, and that makes me feel a bit weird about it. Even so, I'm not going to skip getting a MNF Shiwoo or Shushu who's perfect for my characters just because there are tons of them around.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! I'm more likely to click on a gallery thread if it's a doll I have, doll I'm considering getting, or if it's one of my favorite sculpts. I'm pretty much always going to click on threads with a Lati Aida, DoD Ducan or DZ Yuu, for example, because those are favorites. I always click on Akando because he's amazing. I'll always click on threads showing a DZ Mo because that's what I have and I like to see how different they can look and how other people can pose him, and I'll click on MNF Shiwoos, Shushus & Seorins, DZ Hid, and DoC Kirill because those are all on my wishlist and I like to see what others have done with them.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums? Sure, if I loved the face and/or it fit a character I want to bring into doll form. I would also check out the company's other dolls, if any, on the forums as well - I like seeing owner photos and hearing comments about posability and any problems people might have had.

    17. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
Basically the important thing here is that I love the mold, period. However, I'm usually against popular trends (music, politics, fashion, movies, etc), so dolls are no exception. When I see/listen to something so many times I tend to quickly get bored of it. And for some reason I quite fall in love with molds that are very rare here at DoA to the point that searchs throw me a couple or 3 links. The only doll that has been making me really think about this is Saint, gosh I LOVE that mold, but it seems he's quite popular here and despite his popularity I'll do the impossible to get one as soon as Dollshe reopens.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
I'm not interested if the doll is popular or not, I just want to get the mold that I love and is right for my characters. However I'd love to "pimp them up" to the point that people will love them in the galleries ^^ To be honest, loved dolls are more appearling than non loved dolls (I read that somewhere), no matter what the mold is.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Well I am more likely to not click on threads of companies I dislike. However I don't have a favorite company in particular, I usually just fall in love with particular molds, so I usually click when I see the names of dolls I like.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
Of course! I love rare dolls, but some of them are just so hard to find >.< However seeing owner pics usually helps to this big decision of spending quite an amount of money.

    18. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll:
-laughs- doesn't matter to me, as long as I like the sculpt.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
Nope. ^^ My doll is for my personal enjoyment and loving. I'm not here cause I want popularity - I have him because I love him.
Na-dah. Haha, If I like the sculpt? Chuu the world.

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
^^ nope. I click on threads based on which threads I think will be interesting.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
Haha, whether or not it appeared on this forum doesn't really matter to me. ^^

    19. I buy what I like. I look at what I like. I really don't care what people think. Right now I want a BBB Pandora in pink. Probably not popular, but it is what I want.

    20. - Which is more appealing when buying a doll: that it's rare or that it's popular?
Neither, really. If I had to choose I suppose I'd say rare, because I tend to get bored with sculpts if I see them all. The. TIME, but it's really not a factor in my doll-purchasing decisions at all.

      - Would you ever buy a more popular doll knowing that it could get you more gallery views? Conversely, would you ever choose not to buy a doll because you believe it is too popular and you are afraid to be seen as a follower?
No and no. I buy dolls because they appeal to me. I don't really consider their appeal to other people, or what other people will think of me because I have that doll (really, how silly is that? Worrying about people's opinions of me because of what KIND OF DOLL I own?)

      - Are you more likely to click gallery threads because they feature a CP doll? Be honest! Nothing wrong with having a favourite company.
Less likely, if anything. I feel like I've seen every possible styling of every CP doll ever made except some of the really, REALLY new ones, so I don't really feel a need to seek out more. I mostly look at gallery threads when I'm trying to see what different things people have done with a certain sculpt, and I sort of feel like I've seen everything under the sun already as far as CP's sculpts go, since so many people have them and do so many different things with them.

That said if I found that I wanted a CP doll for something I had up my sleeve I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. It's just that I already sort of feel like I know what they look like.

      - Would you buy a doll that you had not seen on the forums?
I wouldn't buy a doll I hadn't seen non-company photos of, since frequently dolls look very different in owner photos than they do in promotional photos. That said it doesn't matter to me if I saw owner photos on DOA or elsewhere -- if I saw all the owner photos I felt I needed on livejournal or a faceup artist's website or something but had never seen the doll on DOA I'd still happily buy it.
