1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Re-shelling... Are they the same?

Aug 21, 2010

    1. (Please excuse me, Mods! I'm still a noob at making new posts and such. If this is in the wrong place, or if theres already an existing thread on this topic, feel free to delete!)

I recently have aquired the money for my first resin BJD (yay!!) and I had a sudden realization; The character I have currently filling my little Hujoos body would be so much better if she had a larger, resin made body. So my character Amber is now awaiting her body and my little OT friend is empty. Do you guys ever do that? Reshell a character? I know some people do if they have a hard time bonding with a doll, I love my hujoo baby, she was my first BJD. But now that I can afford a real BJD I just think "amber" would be better suited to be in that body.

Haha, I know I'm a little strange. Just a thought. Do you guys ever have those thoughts too? Just suddenly wanting to reshell an already established character?

EDIT:: Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!

    2. My idea of a doll character is so tied into what the sculpt I initially choose looks like I don't think I could replace a head and feel it was the same character. A body I could upgrade, sure, but not the head.

    3. "Is it the same axe...?"

Lol but honestly I don't know. I was thinking about this today thinking that I should have shelled Cissy either in WS and/or in some other sculpt. I think I would be okay with reshelling as another sculpt/company entirely... but weirdly I'm disturbed by the idea of replacing her with a perfect replica of herself in another colour. I... don't know why.

I think about reshelling her a lot, but on the bottom line I don't know if I could do it, or even if it's worth doing. I think I am overthinking things again...

    4. I've really only done a proper "reshell" of one doll so far, where I swapped out the former head for a new one. It's a character doll, and the original head was actually a MNM of the character, but it was never quite right, and nothing I did with him ever looked how I wanted it; since getting the new head, he looks like his character's "present," now, and I'm much happier, because it's finally "right." (As a side note, it was a full reshell, but in stages--the body was replaced, and the first sold off some time ago; the second body is now paired with a head from the same company, and the original head set aside on a bust.)
