Rei Tenshi- ludicrous price?

Dec 9, 2008

    1. Doesn't Volks keep track of who is 'gifted' the tenshi's ?
I thought they frowned on 'reselling' them.

    2. The eBay seller states in the auction:

    3. Even if they tracked the the people that got them, it's not like there's anything they can technically do. You don't enter into a non-resale contract with Volks, the company just says that it's highly discouraged. I saw a girl at a Dollpa who stated when she picked up a Sei/Rei (can't remember which) that it was the fifth time she'd won one and Mr. Shigeta told her to please not put it up for auction.

For me, I think they're cute, and if I got one as a gift I'd keep it, but I'd never buy one second hand. I have many more dolls I'd be willing to pay for, even at that price.

    4. If I won it, I'd keep it. Seems I've stirred up a hornet's nest. Interesting viewpoints. Though, for me, given the chance to have an OOAK, I'd choose a different sculpt and a truly one off. Still a baby, but... we all have our limits, hey? And that is not to demean anyone or their choices. Think I'm still learning about the BJD market.

    5. wow that's one beautiful Rei Tenshi. It might be the prettiest I've seen. I'd never buy one on the second market but the Dolpa lottery is always really exciting! I'd love to win one.

    6. I was just mentioning this in general :)

It's not that you 'can't' sell them, but I can
see that it is a very special 'gift' that Volks
gives these out and I imagine that if they
see they are being sold often enough, they
may stop the tenshi's as gifts in the future.

I would be delighted to have one and would
keep it if I were lucky enough to win.

    7. I doubt Volks will they are also a business and want to encourage people to come to the events.

    8. That's a bit overpriced for a rei. I've seen Sei's go for about that. It will go for as high as someone is willing to for the prestige of owning one. I recognize that one from Y!J. It was for sale there a few months back.

I can see why it's priced that high though I see a bit of a sleeping Luna/Kurumi on that rei

    9. This is true, but everyone and their brother owns a Puki, and they're not rare or exceedingly special by any means. That's why they're so affordable. A Rei - Tenshi is FAR more rare than any other tiny...

I personally would NEVER pay that much, but I'm also not a die-hard lover of Rei anyway.

    10. Originally I thought it was an awful thing of someone to sell a gift doll. Recently with the market the way it's been going, I've rethought my previous opinions. Imagine you HAVE won a doll. Lucky you right? There's tons of reasons why someone would suddenly need a large amount of money, medical bills, lost job, tuition fees, and if there is someone else who desperately wants one and will pay for it, I don't think it's shameful at all.

It's easy to make a blanket judgement on these things, I used to think anyone willing to pay 200 dollars for a doll was plain nuts, and well :P I won't even go further.

    11. :lol:I saw that listing yesterday!!!!
I think they do keep track...but I'm not too certain. I won one a Sei Tenshi at the NY Dolpa 2 for 1st place in the costume contest. I remember having to sign a sort of adoption card with my name, address, and phone number on it. Plus I haven't checked but my tenshi may have a serial number inside of it's body which may varify who it belongs to. But then again a lot of people won Sei and Rei tenshi's that day in the lottery..but I can't remember if they had to sign anything.

But anywho...I'd never sale mine. I love it soooo much, and it brings back good memories of NY.:hamster:

    12. She's a darling little doll. Worth the price? If someone bids that much, then I guess it is. As for me, I am totally in love with my little Volks Papi (aka Sammy), who was still alot for me to pay. Sometimes when I think of what she cost me could buy, I think I must be crazy. Crazy......maybe, but definitely not sorry! Randi

    13. They probably keep the info on file to look up if needed, kind of like when you have multiple FCS dolls and ask for the faceup to be similar. But I doubt they go around trying to visually identify every Sei or Rei tenshi that gets sold and match it up to an owner (who might not even be the one selling it, heck they may have given the thing to someone else as a gift and that person is reselling it, who knows) so they can blacklist them. I don't think it would be worth it to them as a company, because there's so much reselling of their dolls that if they were to start tracking it not only would it be a headache, but they'd probably lose some loyal customers who just happen to not really want a doll they got by chance.

As for that one... yeah, it's not the most a Rei tenshi has sold for, but right now dolls aren't selling well in general due to the economic slump. Chances are it'll sit there unsold and after the auction ends the seller will either decide they would rather not sell the doll if they can't get a certain amount for it, or they'll lower the price and put it up again. Personally I think the pricing is crazy on Reis and Seis in general, but I don't think that what this seller is asking is totally out of league with what these dolls often go for. Then again I also think the secondhand pricing on a lot of dolls is crazy, I'd never buy a Bermann, a Shinku, etc. for what they usually sell for either.

    14. Wow, winning 5 of them! I hope one day I can have a chance to win one - I hope they hold a Dolpa in Chicago one of these years!

    15. It's still not sold. Wonder if it will.

    16. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! agree

so one of these rei tenshi goes for 3000$ sometimes?
      3000$ = 16 basic pukis.
      or
      3000$ = 10 pukis + a great dollhouse :D

    17. In principal I think you're right but then again, a puki =/= a rei soooo

It's all in which doll you want XD But I think it'd have to be a pretty ultra spectacular doll for me to even consider paying anywhere cose to $1000, let alone $3000!

    18. Hey, $3000 is a bargain compared to how much this one just went for: http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n65405869

Granted, it is the most adorable Sei-Tenshi I've ever seen, has the Kurumi sculpt (which is super desirable in SD form), and was only first released last week - but really? 501,000 yen (approx $5,516 US dollars with today's lousy exchange rate) is much too steep except for the most wealthy (and possibly insane) collectors.

      For me that's over 5 month's rent!

    19. O_O

YIKES. That's almost a year's worth of rent at my old place...

    20. I'd adore, more than adore to even have a chance to win one and I would never sell the little baby if I was lucky enough to win one. Every time I see them for sale my heart swoons with desire but I could never bring myself to spend so much on one doll with such limited pose-ability. If they had more joints that would be a plus but still as long as money is so tight that little pipe dream of ever adopting a Rei or Sei Tenshi will not come true for me.
