1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Religious BJDs - character and clothing

Jun 29, 2009

    1. Luts offers miniture Bibles and some clothing sets with cross necklaces. Being a Christian myself I get a kick out of that, but I wish there were more items themed around other religions too, like Judism or Hinduism or Buddhism (or others--there are just so many religions!). As big a noob as I am regarding BJD's, these things may exist and I'm not aware of it! That being said, I don't think it's a big problem dressing one's doll up in some sort of religous-themed outfit, especially if it reflects the views of the person (or the doll).

    2. I would be sad if someone were offended by my dolls - I certainly don't mean to offend anyone with them. My characters are fifth-century Christians and I have bought little crosses and religious pendants for them. One of them is an abbess and will be wearing a nun's habit and a veil. For me, the doll (or the character) doesn't carry any particular message. She is a nun because it makes sense for her character, historically and in her backstory.

    3. Emily and Yoko are Miko's in a Shinto Shrine. Both of them are getting robes for their jobs. ^.^ It's really hard to find robes though *le Sigh*

    4. I think people should have the freedom to do what they like with their doll. While some religions may consider it blasphemous or an offense to their sacred rituals, you cannot control the world or stop people from doing such things. If you try, you will come across the wrong way and set a horrible testimony to your faith. I am of the mind that you should lovingly try to teach people the beauty behind a tradition and what it means to you rather than becoming religiously angry.
On the other hand, if people are posting pics in the forum they should also be sensitive to how they will affect others and how powerful certain symbols are to the followers of a certain faith. I can see some very insensitive if not intentionally offensive things done. If a person must make an offensive statement doll, perhaps they should only share it with those who will appreciate it.
Sensitivity and respect are really the key.

    5. I don't understand what could be wrong with it?

I mean, maybe someone would get offended if they though you were mocking their religion..... but other than that I think that dolls dressed as religion figures are pretty much as old as time if you think about it.

    6. Ha, I myself own some frilly and sexy nun habits for my doll. So its not going to bother me if someone going to have some sort of religious clothing on theirs.

    7. I liked the Buddhist monk doll that was posted earlier. I don't think it's that big a deal. Dress your doll in whatever you would like.

    8. It's your doll have fun with it.

That said, I personally (and each person individually) are allowed to decide what offends them and rash judgements may be made. I'm cool with people believing in whatever the heck they want but if I see someone coming up to my house with a suit on holding a bible I turn the hose on them.

Much the same, someone with a christian/sikh/muslim/whatever doll is fine (and could even be darn cute!) but if they start getting crazy rabid nutball on me, or start trying to convert me I will leave the vicinity with harsh words. Very harsh words. Words George Carlin couldn't use in an HBO standup special.
