Reoccuring themes is your doll family?

Nov 17, 2015

    1. Hey Guys!

I noticed that after looking at a lot of my characters/dolls, I tend to gravitate toward similar concepts such as blue eyes, to victorian clothing, all the way to certain ages. I've also heard of similar statements from people saying they love sleeping molds or cute sculpts, or having armies of tinies.

So I wondered what reoccurring themes do you see in your current doll family or wishlist? This can be anything from always wanting innocent looking sculpts, to constantly wanting to pick up that short spiky wig regardless of how many of them you already have. ^^

Now for fun look at your current family or anything on your wishlist...Did you notice any repeating themes or traits you didn't intend to be there?

    2. Not sure if this counts, but so far, all my ideas for future dolls are woodland/fantasy creatures. My first guy is a deer, the second one I'm planning on is an MSD unicorn girl, I also want a tiny little rabbit girl... And I definitely need a dragon boy... And maybe a wolf man or woman... LOL I don't seem to really want any human dolls.

    3. I've noticed a couple of themes going on with my dolls which I find rather odd, especially considering most of them come from entirely different companies and are markedly dissimilar to one another. First of all, after selling off a realistic looking doll that was gorgeous and well made, but bugged me to no end, I realized it was her realism that bothered me. All my remaining dolls had that slightly anime look, with the slightly larger head proportions. So I've steered away from realistic looking dolls ever since because they never seem to last around here despite my best intentions.

And secondly, I've noticed that all my dolls would easily fit into a fairytale aesthetic. There's always something quirky and oddly unreal about every character I seem to create, even if they're human...and I have no idea why. What the heck is up with that?*_*

    4. I love dolls with anxious expressions. :sweat

    5. I always go for more stylized, "old school" sculpts with neutral or gentle expressions...
The majority of my crew have realistic hair colors and natural-style face-ups...
I tend to buy them in pairs...
      They all wear good jewelry...

    6. Most of my future plans are just normal people (no fantasy). Which is probably really lame lol. But I do have one mythological family!

    7. I have a real love for serious or down-right crabby sculpts. XD I'm far more likely to fall in love with those than with a soft, neutral expression.

I keep getting black-haired guys without meaning to do so. ._.; Three of them even have very similar wigs. And my girls tend toward short hair styles, but my guys have long wigs.

    8. I've noticed that most of my dolls have been non-human characters and the majority have/had either green or blue eyes. I also seem to go for more feminine features, even for my male dollies, and I like long hair too apparently... :sweat

    9. Grumpy or sad-looking boy dolls, yup. That's my thing apparently.
I officially call my crew favorites the Sad Boys Squad™ too lol.

Also used to have mostly black-haired dolls for the first couple years in the hobby, but I've added some variety now.

    10. All of my dolls are inspired by fantasy stories, specifically those told in Role-Playing Games, especially video games like Final Fantasy. I imagine my crew as a traveling group like the eclectic one from Final Fantasy 9.

Once I finally get some time, I want to do very elaborate make-up on some of my dolls to accentuate this theme.

    11. I don't have any regular humans in my doll family XD I have Vampires, a faerie, and a psychic ghoul (immortal servant) to one of the vampires. I plan on another faerie at some point... they also all wear Victorian clothing

    12. All my guys, except for 1, are not human (or no longer human). I have gods, demons, former fairy, created species, naga, satyr, wight, demi-muse, cockatrice, water sprite... the list sort of goes on and on. And the one human guy I have could even be argued that he's not 100% human as he has Gregorie in his not-so-distant family tree.

I also have a a lot of redheads in my group.

    13. Heavy eyeliner. I never intend to make the faceups so dark and rough but that's how they end up.
Every doll I have has dark eyebrows, lots of eyeliner, lots of lashes and dot symbols around their eyes. I guess I am very drawn to the rough, bad and dusky look. :sweat And elves. Heads with elf ears are pure candy for me eyes!

    14. Yes, I definitely have recurring themes in my BJD collection. I already know that I'm drawn to pointy ears and dreaming sculpts, and if they have both features that's even better! I also prefer fantasy dolls over human dolls, and mature SDs over any other size. I also like male dolls way more that female dolls. I knew I preferred dark hair, but I didn't realize I have a thing for black fur wigs. Four of my dolls ended up with them!

    15. I have a lot of teens in the music scene.

    16. Mine would be strong jawline, sharp thin nose and thin lips. Sometimes I come across threads comparison where people say their sculpts look alike... totally unintended but hey, at least I know I have recurring features, maybe?

    17. Mine is definitely the Four-sisters/VOLKS F-01 (and similar sculpts). I've really loved the sculpt from the first time I saw it but never really intended to have more than two or three of them, so far I have one and about half my wishlist consists of more F-01s.
Another thing would probably be DollHeart clothes, specifically their Romance sets. I really want one of every color!

    18. @CloakedSchemer mine are all primarily rockstars w/their families, so it's kinda similar here too:)) However, mine aren't teens - tehy're all already close to/over 40 ;)

apart from the sleepyheads, which are my major, as if, I'm also into all things cutely-gloomy/glam-goth. All of my dolls at some point wore something shiny and black and if I were to choose only one colour for their clothes - it'd be black. The all look good in it;)

    19. I really gravitate to grumpy/moody expressions in sculpts. :3 Love that Gloom and Doom aesthetic.

    20. Same here, most of my dolls look pensive or aloof. I have a couple of cheerful looking dolls like my Hatsune Miku DD, but other than her not a lot of big smiles among my doll family.

Other than that I don't really have a theme, I tend to try and make all my dolls stand out from each other. None of them have the same hair color and only two have the same eye color, out of nine dolls. Clothing styles are all over the place, and while there's a few things they all share I've tended to kind of let each doll have whatever style suits them to themselves.
