1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Resale or keep?

Oct 6, 2011

    1. I buy to keep. After an initial spurt of "SHINY MUST HAVE!!!" I have slowed down a lot and put more thought into which ones I bring home. With more time to think about it, and more time to look at different molds and what other owners have done with theirs, I've found it easier to bond with anyone new who comes in.

I also have a much better idea of what different companies' bodies look and act like from going to doll meets and talking to people so it's easier for me to decide what's more important to me - loving the face / head mold or a good, poseable body. Preferably both, but some companies' bodies just don't pose as well for whatever reason. :)

So yeah, taking the time to think it over and really WANT the doll is what makes it easier to keep them. I dread the thought of selling any of my brood - the only reason I EVER would is for money but even that would be a last resort. I love them too much!

    2. I have never ever ever bought a doll with the intention of reselling it. I expect that I will love him/her and keep them forever XD However, there was a point where I almost fell out of the hobby...almost sold my doll, but I was still new then with one doll who was incomplete and boring hahaha. Then I changed him up and fell in love with him and BAM a year later I have two dolls and three heads with one on the way and many more plans XD The only other time I wanted to sell something was when a Volks SD13 body didn't fit my Bada head....instead of selling it I bought another head to fit the body XD and I plan on getting Bada a new body too LOL

Don't resell, BUY MORE. <- My curse

    3. I do lot of reserach before buying a doll, so I do not NEED to sell them. Of course, if I end up not liking the doll, I can sell it, but I do my best that that won't happen. ^^

    4. I try to buy dolls that I absolutely love, so that I don't have to sell them on. I've only ever bought one doll with the intention of reselling her (I wanted her outfit)... but she's stuck around because she's grown on me, and now I'm undecided on whether to sell her or not. :/ It's a big "what if I'll regret it later?" thing.

Having an eye out for resale value isn't a bad thing, but I don't think that it should limit you from buying a doll you really want, or make you buy a doll you're not keen on simply to try and make a profit. Now, if you like a doll, but you're not totally certain it's perfect for you, there's nothing wrong with purchasing it and then later selling it if it turns out to be less than what you expected (because let's face it, dolls can look vastly different in real life compared to the company photos!).

    5. I plan to have some selling, and some keeping. I have bought older dolls with a hope of rejuvenating them and sending them on to someone who might enjoy my creativity. I am a full time artist. I don't expect to make money, but I will enjoy the process and I hope very much that I will be able to send along some fun to other people. And give dolls a new life. I love them all, but plan only to keep permanently a very few. I love to experiment which is a big part of the drive in creativity -- curiosity.

    6. I've been collecting since 2004, and I have yet to sell a doll. That's why I've currently got 38 dolls with another on the way. When the time comes that I need money, I will part with them, but until that happens I don't plan on selling any. Most of my collection doesn't mean anything to me; there is no emotional attachment. But I still love having them around to look at.

    7. I've never intended to sell a doll, but eh... I'm trying to sell one now...

    8. In the beginning I thought I'd buy every doll with the intent to keep it. Over time I realized this just wasn't the case. I never thought about making my money back, and have in many cases lost a lot of money because I often fall for dolls who lack in popularity. I'm trying to learn from my past mistakes though. I really don't like to sell dolls, so I'm trying to be more mindful of who I bring home now, because I know that sometimes I just won't know if I like a doll until I have them in my hands.

    9. I buy with the intention of keeping them for good. I haven't had the misfortune of getting a doll that doesn't look how I thought, thankfully. I did sell one doll, though, an anthro tiny. I never even gave him a face-up, didn't count him in with the others... eventually, I realized, even if I painted him up really cool, I have no interest in tinies, and I still wouldn't be interested in him. So at that point I found him a new home. It's sort of a strange case of not bonding to the point I hardly considered him one of my dolls. My other dolls, though, I don't foresee selling.
