1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Resin Matching/ Doll Hybriding Chart

Jul 8, 2024

    1. Does anybody have any idea about where to find a good resin matching compilation thats up to date? I’m looking for a body to match Switch resin colors but i dont want a switch body.

    2. Keeping something like that up to date would be a massive task.
Most of the time it's just a case by case thing. Ask around. Search for known matches of the past, follow that trail to see if there has been any known changes to that companys colours. Find other matches and cross reference, if you can't find the precise one you are looking for. If company A and B both are known to match C, it's a fair chance that A and B will be an ok match as well.

Use the Photo Reference forum and see if there are any hybirding threads for Switch. Check the Discussion forums for the right company threads and look there (or ask) for hybrids. Use existing threads as much as possible. That keeps the search function healthy and functional.

Hybriding is a slow process and not an exact science, but there is a huge amount of information on DoA, members are usually helpful and the search function is pretty good, so you allready have a lot of data right at your fingertips.

      Good luck in your search!

    3. As someone who hybrids quite a bit, it is honestly so difficult to find matches. As Lillith mentioned it is a slow process that requires a lot of researching, additionally it can be costly. Even if a companies resin color matched perfectly from the year 2023 with your head it could have changed in 2024. It could yellow differently or grey differently over time. I've had that happen where I had an Illusion Garden Doll that was Vanilla White with a Soom Cream White body that matched but the Soom body yellowed more rapidly than the head. Now, if I do hybrid I try to actively seek companies that do resin matching services.

DoA has a huge database of information. You can look at doll profiles and search by maker and sculpt to see if anyone has photos of a particular body model and resin color you're searching for [just pay a close eye to the year]. Instagram can be used for reference. Doll unboxing videos on YT as well.

DF-A/DF-H does resin matching. Ving's Doll has a large selection of Switch colors to select from. When I last asked AliceCollections 2D Doll did resin matching but you need to send a sample.

    4. Yeah the last time someone did that recently it got broken somehow probably bc there was way too much on there. Anyways I have some in theory matches just lmk what tone you are looking for.

    5. As a hybrid and BJD research fan, it can be a long process. It also depends on your tolerance for not having a doll that isn't 100% matched head and body.
I would also consider if the body of the doll is going to be fully dressed or not as this can hide the resin mismatches.
The neck size is also important.

I hope this helps you to start your research!

    6. From my preference, getting the body you want, ie taking into account the aesthetics, posing, head/neck/shoulder proportion, etc is more important than exact resin colour/opacity(or)translucency. Just doing a face up can drastically alter the head colour.

That is my current preference... I know for others the colour matching is more important. That used to be me but after having lots of floating heads sharing bodies, some of which move between bodies as I fancy, this needing to have head and body matching has become less of a priority ;)

    7. I used to search pics of dolls of the brand that I need to see a comparison, and ask directly to their owners how looks next to others dolls. Resin tone, proportions, neck size. Collectors used to be comprehensive and gentle and help you mostly of times...I think its because we always have this same problem: a dream head that don't match with the body :XD:

Basic: Normal skin used to aproach to pink, peach and yellow. You must to know if Switch is near of each and looking for brands with thus type of normal skin. Same with white, but white used to aproach to yellow creamy or white like paper, sometimes a pinch of pink!. Tan skin its more complicated to match. But a lot of hybrids works on with a good blushing to match better.

And looking for other owners with the same hybrids could orient you a lot. You can ask directly what option you have with Switch. Like others said to you, looking for a good hybrid can took very long time so I hope you have better good luck in your search for your dream body :clover:clover:clover:chibi

    8. Oh, I've never considered this... Now that's a major point against hybridizing in my book...

    9. I was thinking about this recently, it would be good to maybe have a thread or project where people can post comparisons pf what they already have under natural light and artifical lighting.

Sort of like an anything goes approach, maybe have a format of description of what is what with number, brand, skintone and age? I have 3 hybrids myself and had been thinking this a lot recently.

Back in the early 2000's before instagram and facebook all the info was pooled on DOA, but as people are spread out more now I think it would need a mini project to get the information together.

There used to be a goodle sheet someone created which was super helpful too. So in addition to the gallery this could be an option.

    10. I think tracking compatibilities between bodies and heads was easier when we were exclusively in forums. However, I've found images of bodies and heads I wanted to hybridize on Flickr and Tumblr with a short Google and DoA search.

People are usually quite helpful if you approach them in a friendly way and send them a private message. We all know how difficult and frustrating a hybrid can be.:XD:

    11. One thing I'm not so sure about when I see user pics is that if the image is made for artistic purposes and not to actually show the resin matching, there's a chance the color has been balanced to look even, so it can be misleading. I'd much rather trust a post in the Reference section although lately it seems to have dried up a bit...

    12. I understand what do you mean, but comparison pictures are tagged as such too unless is stated the oposite.

    13. Artistic user pics was all I could ever find when I searched for specific resin/body matches outside of DOA, so I thought you meant that. I didn't know there were resin comparison tags!

    14. There are lots of edited photos but when I was looking for a body for my preloved Mihael head I found lots of compatibility pics. I wonder if I was just lucky as he's an old sculpt! Many users use Flickr as a photo gallery to share here too

    15. Depending on which company you're interested in, some will do resin matching services if you send them a sample for an upcharge. It's probably not an ideal option, but it is certainly an option if you get backed into a corner on finding a body to match a head you love.

I wish we had a regularly maintained database of which companies do resin matching, though. I mostly find out about it via word of mouth.

    16. @Thespian furtunaly that seems to be more and more common. I know DFA/H, 2D and Impldoll do that but I've seen it with much smaller Chinese makers (I assume it's because they get the casting done from one of the bigger companies)
